How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewIt has the basic facilities you need.
We stayed 3 nights. I would rate higher but the listing is misleading, it states washing machine and air conditioning but these cost extra. Washing is very expensive compared to laundromats at 10 euro. There are signs around the house with various rules and warnings about being fined. Hair on the sheets, as others have mentioned. The shower floods and the grout in the tiles on the floor has holes so the bathroom gets very wet after a shower. And only 1 small bath mat is provided to soak it up. If you are unlucky enough to sleep downstairs, every movement upstairs sounds like stomping. I have never heard such loud footsteps before it sounds like giants walking above you. A camera watches the kitchen. After the first night it was continuously facing our door/ the front door instead of the kitchen which made us feel uncomfortable... In the middle of the first night we were woken by yelling outside our door from the owner. If you don't have a set arrival time, expect to wait 15+ minutes on the street to get into the accomodation.
You are very rude and arrogant guest. Prior to your arrival, communication was difficult. We asked multiple times for your arrival time, but you repeatedly said you didn’t know. Eventually, you arrived without notice. When we informed you that someone would be there in 10 minutes, your response was impatient and rude. At that point, we considered cancelling your stay due to your behavior, but you apologized and said you had nowhere else to go, so we decided to check you in out of goodwill. ChatGPT said: It sounds like you’re sharing a response to a guest complaint — likely one left as a review or in a dispute — and you’re defending your position as the host. If you're considering posting this as a reply to a public review (like on Airbnb, Booking.com, etc.), here’s some honest feedback: Issues with the current draft: It’s emotionally charged, accusatory, and defensive. It may reflect poorly on you as a host, even if you're right. It contains grammar and structure issues that make it harder to read. It could violate platform policies for responses. What you want instead: A firm but professional, calm, and fact-based response that clarifies your side without sounding hostile. This keeps your reputation strong for future guests. Here’s a revised version of your message that keeps your key points but improves tone and professionalism: Host Response: We're sorry to hear you were dissatisfied, though we must clarify some key points. Before check-in, communication was difficult — we asked multiple times for your arrival time with no clear answer, then you arrived unannounced and were upset when asked to wait a few minutes for someone to meet you. Despite the difficult start, we still welcomed you in. Please note that our listing clearly does not advertise free air conditioning or free use of the washing machine. We offer one of the most competitively priced stays in the city center, and we are transparent about what is included. During your stay, the apartment was not treated respectfully. The kitchen was used heavily, with frequent cooking and repeated messes left behind, despite us raising this politely. The bathroom was left with hair blockages and water flooding. Upon checkout, there were makeup stains on the sheets that required replacement — though we did not charge you for any damages. Despite the challenges, we tried to remain accommodating. We do our best to provide a good experience to all guests, and we kindly ask that future guests also respect our space and house rules. Let me know if you’d like help tailoring this to a specific platform (e.g. Airbnb or Booking), or if you want to include/omit anything. ChatGPT said: Absolutely — I understand you want to express your frustration while still sounding professional and reasonable. Here's a polished version of your message that communicates the issues clearly, without sounding overly emotional or defensive. Host Response: We’re sorry to hear you were unhappy, but we feel it's important to share our side of the experience for clarity. Prior to your arrival, communication was difficult. We asked multiple times for your arrival time, but you repeatedly said you didn’t know. Eventually, you arrived without notice. Please note that our listing does not advertise free air conditioning or a free washing machine. We offer one of the most affordable stays in the city center, and all amenities are clearly listed in advance. Unfortunately, your behavior during the stay was far from respectful. You cooked excessively (5 times a day) and consistently left the kitchen in a mess—dirty dishes, uncleaned surfaces—despite us reminding you to tidy up. After the second reminder, you even threatened to leave a bad review. The bathroom was often left with water flooding and hair all over the floor, and upon checkout, the bedsheets were stained with makeup and had to be discarded. Despite this, we did not charge you for any damages. We always aim to treat guests with respect and provide a pleasant stay, and we ask that guests treat our property with the same level of respect. We truly hope you have a better experience elsewhere in the future.

"The landlord has a terrible attitude, is irresponsible, and completely inflexible. I would not recommend this accommodation at all. In Budapest, you have much better options."

Verified reviewLovation was good.
I had high expectations for my stay in Budapest given the good location of the apartment. However, my experience was nothing short of a disaster. The apartment was dirty and smelled unpleasant when we arrived. Though the host assured us cleaning was ongoing, we returned late night to find a disasteres situation. The sheets provided were absolutely disgusting, with visible hair and even bloodstains on them. I asked the host to change the sheets, which he did, but the replacements were just as filthy, with hair still present. After a third attempt to get clean bedding—only to find the same unacceptable standards—I decided enough was enough. My wife was so disgusted she nearly vomited. We were forced to leave late at night because staying there was simply unbearable. The host's attitude after the conflict made things worse. Rather than apologizing or resolving the issue professionally, they had the audacity to argue and claim the sheets were inspected under light. I don’t need sheets “inspected under light”; I expect them to be properly washed and clean, which is a basic standard for any accommodation. I requested a refund, but the host responded rudely, accusing us of being problematic guests and completely disregarding our legitimate concerns. I also tried to get full name of business owner for E-Justicr case, but neither booking nor host provided it. This was an incredibly disappointing and upsetting experience. I cannot recommend this property to anyone. Avoid it if you value cleanliness, professionalism, and basic respect as a guest.

Verified reviewIt is close to major public transport lines, quite convenient.
It is very noisy, from the other guests who came home late. also from the cleaner. The souund proof is defenitely not good. They talk a lot, i couldn't sleep welll. Especially the dark skin cleaner, she kept talking when she cleaned. The facilities like cooking stuffs are bad. I was able to cook for first few days, then they took it away. There was a gas stove and even no gas lighter. Doing laundry costs 10 eur once, and even using air conditioner also costs 10 eur per day.
Normally I should not reply, but I will for other guest to read. The problem with you, is because I stop you from bringing other guest to the flat, you booked for one person, but instead is 3 people sleeping there in one double bed. I told you is not allow, you got angry. I complain about your panties you hang around in the bathroom and you cooking everytime without washing dishes, you got angry. You even went ahead to smoke in the kitchen, and ashes spread all over, that the other guest complain about you, but i let that slide. Unfortunately, i wont accept you breaking the rules and messy up the apartment, without saying anything because I should be afraid of your review. NO NO. Any guest that does not follow the rule, we have to talk to them period. Thank you
