How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThis hotel is far from 5-star standards — especially when it comes to service, which is surprisingly poor and urgently needs improvement. It cannot be compared to similar hotels in Bali or Jakarta. I believe I have a good basis for comparison, having stayed here for 4 nights and having lived in Jogja for 5 years. Staff offer plenty of smiles but also plenty of excuses. In true 5-star hotels, service is what earns the rating — here, the lack of genuine care puts the category into question. ⸻ Check-in Initially smooth, until the receptionist suddenly stopped addressing me and began discussing details such as breakfast and gym hours only with my Indonesian wife — despite the booking being in my name and the fact that we had spoken in Indonesian from the start. Why? ⸻ Spa A disappointing experience. Communication was minimal, and the therapist seemed unsure how to perform a proper foot reflexology massage. She attempted to switch to back and shoulder massage without asking, which I declined — there was a reason I chose a specific treatment. No basic touches expected at this price point: slippers not prepared for use, no inquiry about massage intensity, and constant clock-watching every two minutes as if she wanted to finish early. ⸻ Dinner On our last night, we dined at the hotel — a mistake. No greeting, no guidance to a table. Even budget hotels handle this better. We sat outside, ignored for 5–10 minutes until my wife went inside to get attention. The bartender showed visible annoyance when approached. My meal arrived 15 minutes before my wife’s, with the excuse that “orders are queued” — again, delivered with smiles but no real solution. Mid-meal, complimentary desserts appeared, seemingly leftover from the buffet. It felt like an afterthought, not genuine hospitality. No manager addressed the poor service. Food quality was mediocre — easily found elsewhere for a fraction of the price.

Verified reviewIt was an entirely wonderful stay! We were there for s small family reunion. The executive lounge was perfect for enjoying a light breakfast and happy hour time together. The larger breakfast buffet had an expansive selection of delicious dishes to choose from. The hotel decor and gardens are lovely. We appreciated the accessibility services for my elderly mom which help to make her stay very enjoyable. All the staff were kind, courteous and professional. The location was a quiet haven to the bustling city and convenient to many attractions.
Nothing. It was a very enjoyable experience.

Verified reviewWe stayed in a Junior Suite, which was a lovely big size, with a setee to sit on, and lots of cupboards so we could keep the room tidy. A decent sized desk was also provided. The room had a lovely calming ambience. The hotel itself is a beautifully restored 1960s building. The foyer is spacious and beautifully kept. The breakfast buffet included European as well as extensive and delicious Indonesian foods, with Japanese and Chinese influenced offerings. The hotel staff were delightful, always welcoming and going to great effort to help with any request. Duty Manager Canggih was so helpful throughout our stay. The entire hotel had a beautiful decor, and includes some very large original mosaics well worth seeking out. We used the gym and pool, both well kept and generous sized. Proximity to Ambarukmo shopping mall next door (no road to cross) was a great bonus and we we travelled there often to eat and shop. We were fortunate to have Executive Lounge access with our room, which was such a great addition. It was quiet and beautiful, with attentive staff, and our complimentary cocktails were the equal of anywhere. Another thing to note which aded to the decor was that all of the plants (there were many) are REAL. Delightful!!! AND there were hotel grounds with trees and places to quietly sit, as well as a beautiful old traditional Joglo pavillion and a pool and pavilion where the Sultan used to sit while his wives and children bathed below! This hotel had everything needed for a comfortable pampered stay. Thoroughly recommended!!

The smell in the elevator Breakfasts are included for the stay. We skipped the breakfast for the first day because we left early at 4:30 am to see sun rise. Our kids were too tired to wake up for breakfast the second day. We need to leave at 8:00am for our flight. We asked if they can pack some food for the kids. They said no according to the hotel policy. Most hotels are very flexible with where and when you can have breakfast and very supportive for packing food for day trips. Unfortunately this one is very strict about this.
