How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewFriendly and attentive staff. The bed was surprisingly comfortable. Overall excellent value for money.
There were some stains on the sheets. The linen and towels were old and worn out. Local construction noise during the day made it difficult to relax.

Verified reviewLight airy room, nice Balcony and view of the pool. Friendly staff.
It was noisy, road works, construction work, dogs barking, passing traffic. Then there is the cacophony of frogs etc... at night. My room overlooked the road so not a great location. It is probably OK down the back of the property. Noisy teenagers in the pool in the afternoons dive bombing and shouting. The "Restaurant" overlooks the road too so that was noisy and dusty from the road works. I was disappointed as I had wanted a quiet country stay and I didn't get that. The aerial photo is deceiving. Although remote from shops and facilities, the Hotel is on quite a busy road. The TV never worked in my room and I did get a discount for that. WiFi was patchy. Staff don't speak much English so difficult to communicate. The bathroom is quite basic. Cold standing shower or hot hand held shower over bath. Pebbles on the floor. Not really that clean. Blinds in bathroom need replacing, all broken and not working.
Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We are pleased to know that you enjoyed the airy room, balcony, pool view, and the friendliness of our staff. We are truly sorry that certain aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. Some of the noise mentioned, such as temporary road works, nearby construction, and natural sounds like frogs, are unfortunately beyond our control. Our location on a main road makes it easier for guests to reach local attractions, but we understand this may not feel as secluded as you had hoped. For guests who prefer a quieter stay, rooms located further back on the property are often a better choice. Regarding the TV, WiFi, and bathroom facilities, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. We had offered a discount as a goodwill gesture, and we are working on improvements, including bathroom blinds and WiFi coverage, to provide a more comfortable experience in the future. We also appreciate your note on communication with staff. While English is not their first language, our team is continuously learning to better assist international guests, and we thank you for your patience. Your feedback is valuable for us to keep improving, and we do hope we will have the opportunity to welcome you again for a more enjoyable experience.

Verified reviewSo beautiful outside of the busy bustle of Ubud. Petulu Village is small and calm and you can tell all the people that live there look out for each other. The staff here are exceptional, Cook a lovely meal, are amazing to chat to, and will go beyond to make sure you have a brilliant stay. Room is stunning and you get your own kettle, fridge and beautifully decorated bathroom. Yes there are bugs and if you have a room with a bath then the shower is only cold water but you just have a bath or have a cold shower after your swim in their gorgeous pool. But you’ve come to Bali for the experience and this place gives it to you. Only 15 by bike south into Ubud town. 15 mins by bike north to Tegallang rice terraces. Good central location for big day trips and to chill out.

Verified reviewCharmingly rustic property with great amenities. I loved having a tub with lots of hot water. I enjoyed just sitting and overlooking the rice fields.
Because the rooms were wooden it could Be quite noisy, but it wasn’t terribly obtrusive as most guests were considerate

Verified reviewGreat location slightly north of central Ubud which is very hectic. Very comfortable bed and lovely veranda to sit on overlooking a gorgeous pool. Helpful staff who booked us a sunrise tour to Mt Batur. We ate all our meals at Labak Sari Warung which is the best restaurant for ambience and food that we’ve eaten at in Bali and it’s in walking distance of the JJ Ananda hotel.
We had an upstairs room and it was very noisy as we could hear the people below us who were laughing loudly at 5.30am and using the TV in the evening. I’d recommend booking a single story unit, also because the staircase to our room was steep and rickety. The room was lovely abut the bathroom was a bit scruffy.

Slight issues with check in as we arrived very early due to delayed flight - but we got in eventually :)

Verified reviewLovely cottages in Ubud, slightly out of the centre which meant it was away from lot of traffic. Breakfast was on point. They had the loveliest kittens staying there who were beautiful and friendly. Helped with scooter hire with was cheaper than others in town.
Pool didn't look like it was cleaned regularly so we didn't have a dip.

Verified reviewFriendly staff
The rooms were so loud, if you are looking for a relaxing place to stay maybe it’s not the best option since I was even able to hear my neighbors sneezing. Unfortunately the room was full of bugs and geckos since it was in a rice field so it’s fine there was not much to do. But the location is a bir middle of nowhere. There is almost nothing around. For a short stay (2nights) it’s a good option

Verified reviewI wanted to stay away from the busy part of Ubud, but close enough to take about 10 minutes on a motorbike taxi to get into the centre when I needed to. The location was perfect. It was quiet and relaxing. The room was traditional style and the buildings were rustic and charming.
The breakfast choices were very basic. Everything else about the hotel was as I expected.
