How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewAmazing place. What a little gem! The swimming pool was stunning, the staff super friendly and the food amazing! Really one of the best places we visit on Java
Well everything was great, but if I could give one suggestion: give the massages in a designated room instead next to the swimming pool (or in my case, cause I wanted a bit more privacy: in my room). It just adds a bit of a relaxing vibe when you get a message in a room on a massage bed (with a hole in the matras for you head) than how it was now

Verified reviewWe spent 4 nights in this homestay and we really liked the inside garden and swimming pool. It’s a beautiful oasis of tropical plants well maintained Location: it’s located in a small village outside Yogyakarta, which is very nice if you are looking for a peaceful location, less handy if you need to go to the city every day (around 20 to 40 minutes depending on the place). The staff was friendly, helpful and always available. Facilities: Breakfast was great, but you cannot choose. Every day there is a fixed option already chosen for you. We recommend this place if you are looking for a quiet place outside the city! P.s. the dogs are lovely!
The water pressure of our shower was terrible, you could barely use it, and it takes quite some time before the water gets hot.

Verified reviewWe loved Astuti Gallery homestay so much that we extended our stay twice! What a serene oasis of calm - with a wonderful, welcoming owner and staff who went out of their way to care for us and ensure we had the best experience. Comfortable, clean, spacious, stylish, art filled rooms, fast WiFi, a pool for swims beneath the frangipani trees - and Bu Wulan's delicious home-cooked meals: it really is a gem of a homestay. Every detail has been thought through with care. The village setting is attractive for local walks - and it's a 25 minute Grab ride into the centre of Yogya and for travel further afield, Bintha was very efficient at arranging drivers. We feel really blessed to have experienced such warm hositality and would return in a heartbeat.
For us, it was all perfect.

Verified reviewThis is a really unique, quirky place. Staff were friendly, organised scooter hire and really cared about your stay. We left really early and we were given a hot pack up breakfast to take with us. Location is about 25 mins away from main city which makes it very peaceful. Great value for money.
Nothing.

Verified reviewVery nice place to explore Yogyakarta surroundings. Tasty food in the restaurant, comfortable beds, supportive staff. Perfect stay to see the temples, volcanoes and caves.
The area is a bit noisy, like in Asia. If you really want to detach you should probably look for another place.

Verified reviewThe owners were soo friendly und helpfull. We felt 100% comfi from the beginning. They showed us the room und they gave us instructions (shower needs 2 min to get warm). The room was incredible und beautiful. The pool area was very lovely. Everything was full of decorations. The breakfast and the dinner was amazing, we got 2 times different breakfast. The service was perfect!
It's a bit outside out of the city center. But you can rent scooters there, so no problem.

Verified reviewThe exterior is very chill and the staff are very friendly.
We weren’t expecting luxury, but at the very least, cleanliness. Unfortunately, the conditions were shocking. We heard rats scurrying around at night, and there was rat feces on a dirty net above our bed. It’s clear the owner doesn’t prioritize hygiene at all. The bathroom was equally appalling, with multiple cockroaches crawling around, and the toilet lid looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in ages. Despite the situation, we tried to remain polite and overlook some of these issues. However, things took a turn for the worse when my girlfriend found a dead cockroach on her plate—after she had already eaten part of the meal. Understandably, she’s feeling quite unwell now. This experience was truly unacceptable.
Thank you for your review, critique and feedback. We apologize if our place is not the luxury place you expect as we are a home concept , so you could experience staying in a local Indonesian house. Our place is open space, the nature on the neighborhood is surrounded by a forest of teak trees, so there will be some animals that you will find around our property. We are concerned about hygiene in our place, therefore twice a month we invite pest extermination companies such as mosquitoes, rats, cockroaches, ants, caterpillars and other insect animals to be treated through spray & fogging. So if after the extermination, some types of animals will surface because they will feel the impact of the spraying. We have warned our guests that after the spraying of insects, there will be dead insects that will appear. Upon cleaning time for check in and check out, we did vacuum the mattresses and beds, thematrass protection and bed linen to ensure there is no dust and invisible insects or other small animals. We were very surprised by your review of the cockroach on your plate as we and our guests have never experienced this in the 12 years we have been open. So then we will compliment replace for free when we will knew this. We deeply apologize for not meeting your expectations, you want to stay somewhere for 400,000 / night we please do not expect a Luxury place Thank you

Verified reviewThis homestay is full of artistic taste. It's clean and quiet. The working staff are very helpful and trustworthy, and above all, the food provided by the restaurant is delicious and full of flavor. The chef is obviously very dedicated and customer-oriented, as she keeps changing the food she serves if the customer stays there for more than one day.
