Our stay was absolutely perfect! Hospitality in Indonesia is already exceptional, but here it truly goes above and beyond. Marco is an outstanding host — he genuinely goes out of his way to make your dreams come true. We had several unusual requests, and every single one was handled effortlessly and with a smile. He made our life on the island incredibly easy, helping us get everything we needed. We rented scooters for our entire stay, enjoyed a private tour with Adam (one of his contacts, who is both amazing and very flexible), and always felt well taken care of. This activity is highly recommended. The private tour is great for flexibility. The location is unbeatable — right in the heart of everything. True, there’s no pool or direct beach access, but honestly, you won’t miss it for a second: you’ll be spending every day at the stunning beaches around the island anyway. Thank you, Marco, for your kindness and for making our trip unforgettable.

Erin and Marco and their team are fabulously hospitable - both owners are readily available and extremely helpful. After arriving my wife was struck with a bout of vomiting and Marco and then Erin both assisted in getting my wife recovered and laughing again. And on our Island Hopping trip I suffered a badly bruised a toe - it was no trouble for Erin to give potions and ice cold water to my wife that reduced swelling and bruising markedly overnight. The breakfasts (with an Indonesian option) were excellent, the room comfortable and clean. The location just up the hill from the ferry port was excellent and the garden setting peaceful. The scooter we hired was adequate (the roads are teeth jarringly rough), and the Island Hopping boat crew they placed us with were excellent. Nothing seemed too much trouble and it really felt like they treated guests as friends rather than customers.

Only (very minor) gripe I have was a lack of options for hanging/storing clothes - in the room we had there is un-utilised space to achieve this, perhaps with some simple shelves beside the dresser.

This is a family business, so if you want warm and cosy atmosphere be their guest! Really nice hotel with spacious rooms, beautifully decorated, clean and quiet with a lovely garden and sitting area. Amazing breakfast with fresh fruit, good coffee and delicious pancake, omelette, nasi goreng and more...The couple that runs the place, Eryl and Marco, is really helpful ready to answer all your questions, providing information for enjoying Karimun. Highly recommended!!! Terima Kasiih!

Right from the moment we arrived until checking out, we loved our time at Ayu Hotel. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The tips and suggestions on sites and restaurants to visit were great. The hotel grounds were beautiful and the room was comfortable. We loved the location on the edge of town as the accommodation was quiet and calm, but we could quickly walk to good restaurants and the night market. The scooter we hired from the hotel was also excellent and opened up the whole island.

There wasn’t anything! We would stay here again if we returned in the future.

An absolutely amazing place in the middle of paradise! The hotel is beautiful, clean, and comfortable, with a great view and wonderful atmosphere. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful, and the breakfast was rich and delicious. A special thank you to the owners (we communicated via WhatsApp) who helped us with everything before our arrival – they arranged ferry tickets and an entire snorkeling program for us. We had a private boat with a captain and a guide who snorkeled with us, took photos and videos underwater – everything was super professional and perfectly organized. And we must mention our guide Aladin – he was fantastic! Always smiling, patient, and took great care of us. Overall, it was a flawless experience. Huge thanks and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a true paradise and excellent hospitality.

Just got back from Karimunjawa and had a really great stay at Ayu Hotel. Wanted to share some thoughts! The rooms there are genuinely spacious – like, you actually have room to move around. And they've got these mosquito nets over the beds, which is a nice touch and looks pretty too. The lighting in the rooms is also really chill and warm, makes it a nice place to come back to. One of the things that really stood out was the bathroom. It's like a semi-outdoor situation, and you really feel connected to nature while you're showering. It's designed so well and just feels really unique. The whole atmosphere of the hotel is just super calm and quiet. It's a great spot if you're looking to just relax. Plus, the way they've done the interior and the whole feel of the place is really lovely and has a nice artistic vibe. You can tell they've put some thought into it. Oh, and the breakfast! Seriously good. The toast was so tasty and savory, and the omelette was just perfectly creamy – it honestly made my morning! And the owner, Ibu Ery, was so helpful. She sorted us out with a boat trip to see the islands and snorkeling and even got us a motorbike to rent. Made everything so much easier. If you're planning a trip to Karimunjawa and want a place with big rooms, a cool natural feel, a really peaceful vibe, beautiful design, and a super helpful owner, then Ayu Hotel is definitely worth checking out. I'd totally recommend it!

However, there were a couple of minor things. We did notice some little red ants in our room. It wasn't a huge issue, but maybe some regular pest control would be a good idea. Also, the AC in our room didn't seem to cool the whole space evenly, so one part of the room would be cooler than another.

Our stay at AYU was absolutely fantastic—the owners and staff exceeded our expectations in every way. The location couldn’t have been better, just a short walk from the port and close to great restaurants and local spots. Our room was spacious, quiet, and very comfortable, with a cozy bed that made it easy to sleep well each night. The mosquito nets were a thoughtful touch, ensuring we weren’t bothered at all. Every morning, we woke up feeling refreshed and ready to enjoy the day. The breakfast was a real highlight, with delicious options like pancakes, fresh omelets, and seasonal fruit—plenty to keep us energized for our adventures. What truly made our stay special was the incredible hospitality. The owners helped us arrange everything from boat transfers to a private snorkeling trip with a small group, making our experience seamless and stress-free. We loved our time at Ayu and would return in a heartbeat.

Lovely little place in a central but relaxing and quiet location. Walking distance to the ferry but they still will pick you up and drop you off. The best part are the hosts who are extremely friendly and welcoming and treat you like family. They are very helpful for all the information you need and you can rent mopeds and book tours and transfers through them as well. My ferry left before the regular breakfast hours so they specially prepared me a little to-go box for me. The bungalows have outdoor bathrooms which at first I wasn't sure about but actually grew to love...having an outdoor shower felt great!

Some bugs, ants and other insects can get into the rooms and into the bathroom area (but that's to be expected in that environment and wasn't a major problem as they keep the rooms very clean, and the beds have mosquito nets).

Marco the host is exceptionally friendly and attentive. Nothing is too much trouble for him. Thanks also to the 2 boys who worked there. They took our completely overweight bags to and from the room which was at the very back of the property. Great location near the boat and restaurants. Don't miss Karina Beach

Breakfast was poor. Eggs is the better of the 3 options. Room basic with non-functional furniture. Wifi not stable in the room but worked well in the reception area. Standards are reflected in the price which wasn't very high
