Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsThe humidity, which is out of their control.
Very kind hosts with great recommendations, both for excursions (Ijen!) and supplying great guides and drivers. Leyla accompanied us on a daytour of the surroundings and supplied us with great footage! And the food was one of the best we had on Java, especially the omelettes for breakfast. Great atmosphere.

AustraliaThis was our favourite place in Indonesia! Firstly, the staff were very welcoming, helpful and friendly. They went out of their way to help us organise transport and even cooked our breakfast early for our 4am departure. They were the best! The food they cook on site was delicious and better than most restaurants we’ve been to, so we decided to eat most of our meals there and we weren’t disappointed. The treehouse is rustic and lovely, with gorgeous views. You can hear the river running as you sleep. We highly recommend this place!

AustraliaThe property was worth every penny. Amazing staff be cherry on top ! Super comfy with all basic amenities available. We had a cat keeping us company throughout our stay, even at nights. The staff was lovely and also offered free breakfast for 3 on the day of checkout. Im definitely coming back to this property if I visit Java again ! Kudos to the couple hosts <3

RussiaThe hotel is falling apart and it's sad. The toilet, sink, and shower are all in need of repair. There's a lot of dirt near the hotel, and the roof is covered with plastic because it's leaking. It's a good place, but it needs a lot of repairs.
Good location. A normal breakfast. Nice nature.

UkraineThis isn’t a downside, but something to keep in mind — it’s not close to Ijen. Don’t make the same mistake I did: if you're planning to hike the volcano, staying here isn’t any more convenient than staying in Banyuwangi.
The place itself is very pleasant — incredibly relaxing and peaceful. There’s hot water (a rare perk in this price range), excellent staff, breakfast included, stable internet, and a very green, lush environment.

United KingdomAmazing hotel. I've never stayed anywhere like it before. The owners were friendly and accommodating, and helped us arrange a visit to Ijen at a good price. The cats are also very friendly. We stayed in the separate bungalow, and spent some evenings hanging out on the top floor of the main building. It's all very cool, and I highly recommend it.

New ZealandWe really liked hearing the sounds of the jungle outside the room. While we were there the staff were really friendly and helpful The distance to the volcano wasn't far and there were small shops around to get torches (that we forgot) and a pharmacy was also close by The breakfast was really delicious and large portions.

PolandOur stay at Bamboo & B was truly extraordinary. This hotel makes childhood dreams of staying in a treehouse come true, offering an amazing connection to nature. The rooms don’t have traditional windows—walls are open with curtains instead. At night, you fall asleep to the sounds of nature, and in the morning, you wake up to stunning views of rice fields. The breakfasts are delicious and very filling—we fell in love with the pancakes. The hotel staff is friendly and incredibly helpful. They gave us plenty of tips for planning our trip to Ijen, helped us rent a scooter, and provided gas masks. A charming bonus is the hotel’s fluffy residents—the cats. There are plenty of them, all well-cared for and super friendly. If you’re lucky, one of these adorable felines might even visit you in your room.

ItalyWe would have appreciated better organization in terms of touring the area. We know that the main thing is hiking Ijen but it would be nice to be able to see the area (rubber filed, coffee farm, waterfalls) accompanied by someone local.
There’s no other place quite like this: sleeping in a bamboo-house of that size is like getting back to being a kid in a treehouse. It also doesn’t hurt that the food is deliciously cooked and the people running the place are very kind. If you are like me and have a bit on insectophobia do not worry: there’s nothing to be scared of ;)

United StatesThe bathroom was pretty basic, and involved going outside on a rather rickety staircase and uneven trail. (Bring flip flops.)
The location had good proximity to Ijen Volcano (which is why we picked it). We arrived very late due to traffic problems, and the owner was very kind in waking up and giving us access to our room. The room was clean and somewhat charming (in its own way). The (private) bathroom, despite being rather rustic and outdoors, surprisingly had hot water. The grounds were green and full of flowers.
