Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

ItalyIf you want to discover the Toraja culture, look no further. No book nor improvised guide will be able to explain you such a complex culture in details. Hendrik (the owner) organized everything for us, being a Toraja himself, he took us on a tour of the traditional villages, while giving us tons of information about their rituals, beliefs, and social structure. We've also been lucky enough to witness a traditional Toraja funeral, an experience I'll never forget. This has been the most interesting (and true) experience we had during the entire trip in Indonesia, no tourist traps, no fake shows mocking Indonesian traditions. For a brief moment, we've been part of an ancient and beautiful culture, wish i could have stayed longer. Recommended 10/10

United KingdomHendrik made us feel at home as soon as we arrived. He gave us a two day tour of Torajan culture, including attending a funeral, which was all fascinating. Hendrik also cooked us vegan food for dinners and breakfast and went above and beyond to help us make the most of our stay.

Hendrik, the owner of the homestay and Junes, his nephew were amazing! They were my guides during my stay in Rantepao. I learned so much about this very interesting culture of the Toraja people and saw some amazing places. The homestay is a little out of the town. But Hendrik is a realy good chef and can make a delicious local meal for you! Everything in the room is clean and in the bathroom you have a warm shower! Loved it! Thank you both!

GermanyStarting from 4 am it's a bit noisy because of the roosters and the mosque which is not near, but you can hear it.
Hendrik was a great host, we felt very welcome. He and his family provided a great service, they were always friendly, attentive and accomodating. Hendrik is an experienced guide and an expert in Toraja culture and shared his knowledge with us. The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, the breakfast was delicious. Hendrik organized all the trips for us, individually adjusted to our wishes.

Great value for money! It’s a modest homestay, but the room is comfortable, spacious, and very clean and organized. The dinner was amazing—so tasty and local! Breakfast was also well served.

Germany- no AC or fan in the room (it’s quite cool at night so it’s not needed at all but people seem to be surprised) - a little noisy (roosters, dogs, scooters) but it’s probably the same all around the area (also just letting people know what to expect)
Very friendly and helpful hosts, simple clean and spacious room and bathroom with running hot water, easy scooter hire, good breakfast (coffee or tea, mango juice, pancake or Omelett), great tour of Torajan cultural sights and visit of a funeral ceremony, thank you for showing us around and explaining everything so well!

We had a lovely stay at the Bungin Family House. After a long trip in the bus, Hendrik will offer to pick you up an bring you to the homestay. The room was directly ready when we arrived in the morning. The room is very spacious, as well as the bathroom. Everything is very clean. The breakfast as well as the diner, is very nice. The family makes you feel at home right away. We had a great time with Junes, Hendrik and the rest of the family! If you’re lucky, you can enjoy some palmwine with them. The tours they offer are great, and both Hendrik and Junes are excellent guides!!

SpainThe shower didn't run very well but we explained and he has probably repaired it.
It's the first time in all my trips that someone does what Hendrick did to us. Helping us to catch the night bus from Macasar to Rantepao when we were late and tired. Amazing! The brand new building, the breakfast, the place away from the main road. The experiences we had, everything was good. We had a beautiful time with them, It is highly recommended!

New ZealandThere were very noisy roosters outside our window at 4:30am each morning!
Henrik was very helpful with bus tickets when we were having difficulty booking online. When we arrived he was there to pick us up, and over the next two days was a wonderful guide, with his nephew Junus. We enjoyed the family atmosphere at the home stay.

United StatesWe were the only guests at the homestay while we were here, but it wasn't high season yet. So if you're looking for a more social experience, this might not be what you're looking for. Aside from that, I would have liked to have a fan in the bedroom. Not because it was hot, but just to have a little extra airflow aside from opening the window. This is a personal preference though.
This is a great little hostel. The room was sparklingly clean with a comfortable bed and hot shower. Hendrik, the host, is very attentive and eager to offer advice on places to visit in the area. Hendrik picked us up from the bus which was great! He also offers guiding services. We attended a funeral ceremony with Hendrik and really enjoyed the experience. You can also rent scooters here.

NetherlandsAlthough the setup is simple, the spacious bed- and bathroom are very accommodating: clean, relaxed, well maintained. Outside is a wide porch with view. The homestay is located outside of Rantepao on a small slope, with hardly no traffic at night. You will need a gojek, scooter or angkot to get into the city, but everything can be arranged fairly easily. We stayed 4 days with Hendrik and travelled across the region twice, enjoyed his extensive knowledge and storytelling. We learned a lot about Toraja culture, an absolute highlight during our month of travel in Indonesia!

We espacially loved the banana and pineapple pancake and the tamarillo juice for breakfast. Hendrik (as well as his nephew) is also one of the best guides for the Tana Toraja.

GermanyThere is only one (double) room at the moment, so it might not be the right place if you want to meet other travellers. Oh, and bring your own mobile data (currently no wifi).
The room is beautiful, with a modern private bathroom and a balcony with a view of the mountains. Hendrik and his family were lovely hosts. Hendrik is also an experienced tour guide who took me to a funeral and several grave sites in the area on his motorbike. He also gave me lifts (it's a bit of a hike into the city centre), found me a guide for trekking in the mountains and was generally very forthcoming and helpful. Terima kasih untuk semuanya!

United KingdomThe mattresses was quite uncomfortable for us and it is very noisy at night due to proximity to a road with loud motorbikes and trucks rumbling past. The mosque is also nearby and can be heard very early in the morning, Hendrik does provide earplugs and we appreciate this is out of his control but it was too noisy for us to sleep that well.
The room was very clean, the hosts family were very friendly and the home cooked meals were delicious with generous portions. Hendrik arranged for us to attend a ceremony and visit a baby grave and stone graves, the tour was completed by another local guide as Hendrik was busy but was very good. We paid 1.6mil IDR for 2 people (guide and driver). You can hire scooters directly from Hendrik which cost 120k which seemed a fair price. You do need a scooter to stay here as it’s a very long steep walk into town, if you’re staying here for dinner then this won’t be an issue. Hendrik was away for most of our stay but responsive on WhatsApp when needed.
