How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewEnny’s guest House is a wonderful little place to stay. Quirky, cozy and comfortable, the communal areas are great and free tea and coffee to help yourself to all day .
The staff here are so kind and helpful, they helped us organise a 30th birthday celebration breakfast for our daughter, Rini took time out to walk me to the bakery. We met the lovely Enny, she is a fantastic, friendly lady in her 90s.

Verified reviewIt was fantastic! I really loved the hotel. It's got a very cool and quirky style. The rooms are nice and comfortable. There's a lot of places to go to eat. But I think the highlight is the personnel. They were so welcoming and nice to me. They helped me with every single little thing. They went extra mile to help me with the booking (finding the motorbike, doing laundry, reserving nice rooms). I really loved it! I stayed here twice, and to be honest, I hope if I ever go back to Malang I'll stay here again too! Thank you very much for this service!

Verified reviewThe hospitality and useful staff made this place. They helped with arranging trips plus let us sleep in the communal area when our train got on at 3:10am which was incredibly accommodating of them. The communal areas are also lovely and spacious, tea, coffee, filtered water. The room was okay but not brilliant but beds perfectly comfortable. I think because we were open on two sides to the outside, it was quite noisy at night. All in all a very good place to stay
Room wasn’t amazingly clean but was fine. Outside chat was quite noisy but that’s not really the fault of the hostel. Call for prayer is noisy everywhere and just takes a while to get used to!

I had many ants in my room. I could not even leave my toothbrush and toothpaste in the bathroom (had to store them away) because the ants were populating them en masse. I brought this issue to the attention of the front desk staff. A friendly team member of this guesthouse said that he would "look into this matter". Well, I don't know where he looked, but he definitely did not look into the matter. The ants remained... I was given a corner room. The WiFi signal was very weak, not even my data worked in this blind spot. Annoying. Just for your info: This guesthouse charges an extra 2% in case you want to do payment with a credit card. No info was given prior on Booking.com that they would take 2%. I don't know how it usually is with debit cards. I used my debit card and they charged 2%.

As for the ants, we've sent housekeeping to exterminate them. For the WiFi, we're also experiencing the same problem everywhere, even at home, not to mentioned the cellular network was also down. We're sorry for the inconvenience during your stay.

Verified reviewThe location was walking distance to food etc and being on a fairly busy road it was also pretty quiet and peaceful. The staff were always available to help and always smiling and friendly. The room was nice as was the gardens and surroundings. I rented a motorbike for a few days to go see the sights which the hotel helped me organize.

Verified reviewBig spacious room, air con worked super well. Bathroom and everything nice and clean. Little kitchen to use with free tea and coffee etc. we thought we would need the kitchen during Ramadan but actually there was lots of food options open around the city so it wasn’t a problem to find food or get grab delivery. Staff very nice and welcoming. Lots of comfy seats to sit in around the property too. When we arrived there was a few mosquitos in the room but someone heard us squatting them and brought us spray from reception. After we used the spray there were no more for the entirety of our stay.

Verified reviewLovely guest house, with friendly and helpful staff. They provided many recommendations for my stay in Malang. Rooms were comfortable with good AC and shower. Coffee, tea and filtered available. Small kitchen available to use. In a quiet location but close to restaurants etc.

You feel as if you have a whole house to yourself and no need to go out if you just want a tea or coffee.. its available for free.. Feels a very local and professional place to stay.. If you look at the little things, you see that it is still a cheap place to stay. We had a queen bed with windows to the inside. Unfortunately, the lights of the guesthouse in the courtyard and corridors was so bright that the room couldn't get dark. The shower was either realllyyy hot or cold. Bot super comfy. The toilet seat cover clapped shut automatically, which was quite annoying 😅
