Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe hotel is absolutely beautiful! It is like staying in a museum, and we enjoyed browsing the pieces of art throughout the property. The rooms are just as beautiful as the rest of the hotel, and well appointed and very comfortable. The staff are also friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay very much.

United Kingdomhaving to leave!
This place is exceptional in every way. It is a place that you would visit to explore by itself even if not staying there. It feels more like a museum to get lost in with cultural artefacts and information everywhere. All staff are so very kind and helpful. They really do go the extra mile to make you feel welcome and comfortable. My daughter needed a separate room to take an online exam - no problem and no charge. We needed a very late check out - no problem (for a very reasonable charge). I needed some help with arrangements for exploring - no problem, and they found me the quickest and cheapest options. We returned there for our last night as well as our first in Jakarta - they gave us a free upgrade to the most sumptuous rooms! So comfortable and clean and well appointed. Their breakfast and cakes in their coffee shop (and their coffee) was so delicious and an experience in itself - with a range of local and tourist-friendly taste buds catered for. Their coffee shop is accessible to non-guests - well worth visiting. The swimming pool (open to the skies and part of the hotel) is so clean and another great experience. Not all 5 star hotels are exceptional - this one is exceptional and one you will enjoy and always remember.

Unique and amazing experience in a building from colonial times full of history and art pieces. It was a lot of fun to get lost in the labyrinth of all the floors and discover many exhibition rooms. Every room is different and has its own theme. The rooms are very good and high quality with AC, comfortable bed and nice showers. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Communication with them was very quick, either at the reception or through WhatsApp. We recommend taking the offered tour, they will show you the whole location and give you a lot of background information about the history and art connected to this place. I definitely recommend this place and will gladly come back the next time I visit Jakarta.

AustraliaAll fantastic. No complaints
The House of Tugu is a gallery of art, museum of history and boutique hotel all in one. A unique step back in time to Batavia in the Dutch East Indies, with luxury, elegance and style. The authentic Peranakan cuisine is superb and so is their own locally grown coffee. My suite was very tastefully furnished and super comfortable. I loved it. The 1 hour massage at their Spa was excellent AND excellent value for money I was excited to visit the House of Tugu and the Experience did not disappoint Now I want to visit all their other hotels!

United StatesThe House of Tugu comes with my highest recommendation. It is quite an extraordinary place located in Old Town Jakarta. It’s housed in an expansive and meandering home that once belonged to a Chinese merchant in the 1800’s. It’s a majestic old colonial building filled to the brim with arts and crafts from all over Asia. There is so much to see that a tour is offered to view the many rooms and collection. Ms Hevi, our guide, was brilliant. She lead us around showing us the highlights of the collection and telling us about the long history. This is not your holiday inn — the rooms are palatial, the staff is welcoming and friendly and attentive to your needs. This is one of the most unique hotels I’ve ever stayed in and by far the most fascinating hotel in Old Town Jakarta or perhaps anywhere in Indonesia.

NetherlandsNothing. It was fantastic.
House of Tugu is a marvellous place. Located in the colonial old town of Jakarta it showcases an incredible array of antiques, statues, paintings etc. It is a museum on its own right. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The food is very good. Prices are relatively high (for rooms and food) but that is understandable given the uniqueness of the experience. Our room was very large and comfortable. The swimming pool is long and fun. Breakfasts are delicious and offer something for every taste. There is a possibility for a massage.

Czech RepublicWe were a little taken aback by the lack of a door separating the toilet from the rest of the room. :-)
It is quite difficult to describe this hotel in words. Perhaps it could be said that it's more like an incredible museum that you can stay in at the same time. The colonial past and glory of this place breathes on you from every corner. All the staff is extremely friendly and helpful, we felt like a maharaja. The hotel's restaurant offers a wide selection of tempting delights and last but not least, amazing coffee from their own production.

NetherlandsNothing at all. We loved every inch and every minute of our stay, and will for sure visit again. Highly recommended!
We added an extra day in Jakarta to explore Kota Tua, Jakarta old town, and booked a room in the new House of Tugu hotel. It was a mindblowing experience, I wish we could have extended our stay much longer. It was hard to go out at all, because the hotel itself offers só much history and artifacts to explore, presented in such a joyful and delightful way, that it can be seen as a museum in its own right! The hotel is a longterm project of the owners, who keep working on it (not everything planned is yet finished). Their love for Indonesia’s heritage, its art and culture, their refined taste and experience and knowledge of top rate hospitality is I would say rare and unmatched. Everything, from our questions during the booking process, the warm welcome, the afternoon high tea (check out the lively ground floor café!), the excellent dinner (several restaurant to choose from), the beautifully decorated room with fantastic bed and bathroom, the wide choice of breakfast options, to the helpful goodbye the next day, was just beyond expectation.

The House of Tugu is an enigma - absolutely fascinating and beautiful, full of history, whilst providing modern luxurious comfort in its unique and beautiful rooms. Genuinely loved my time here and I would fly back to Jakarta just to experience more time in this place. The staff were impeccable - Hevi was particularly helpful and kind, not to mention knowledgeable and very professional - a real credit to the wider team of staff. IndonesiaOne of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at in Jakarta! I had heard about this hotel from friends and social media, but I didn’t expect it to have such a rich history to discover. The antiques were absolutely incredible, and I loved how they are showcased in every corner of the hotel. The staff were exceptional—extremely friendly and incredibly helpful throughout my stay. The breakfast was also amazing, featuring traditional Peranakan dishes that I thoroughly enjoyed. The room was my absolute favorite part. Initially, I expected a classic old-style setup, but it far exceeded my expectations. Every detail, from the amenities to the facilities, was new, luxurious, and thoughtfully designed. The hotel perfectly combines a luxurious stay with art and a touch of Batavia’s history. Last but not least, the hotel’s location is ideal for exploring the captivating heritage of the Kota Tua area, which is just a short walk away. It’s truly the best hotel in Jakarta, and I can’t wait to come back.

United KingdomIt pains me to say this, but I’m sensing a departure from the distinctive Tugu approach I’ve come to appreciate—having stayed at several of their other properties. I understand House of Tugu is still in its soft launch phase, and the facilities are very much a work in progress. That said, subtle details such as the furniture quality and room layout conveyed a sense of ‘stagey’ heritage styling, rather than the authentic, immersive design that defines the Tugu experience. Given the room rates currently being asked, the positioning feels ambitious—especially when compared to the quality and refinement offered by established five-star hotels like the Mandarin Oriental and Hotel Indonesia Kempinski. It saddens me to say that, at this stage, the pricing is difficult to justify.
As you'd expect from other properties developed and managed by Tugu, the customer service at House of Tugu is consistently five-star, delivered with a boutique flair. What sets this location apart is its ideal proximity to Jakarta’s Old Town—perfect for those looking to immerse themselves in the city’s historical charm. True to Tugu’s signature style, staying here feels like stepping into a living archaeological museum. Every corner evokes stories and sparks the imagination.

IndonesiaSince this was a new hotel, when I stayed there, some areas were still under construction. And some staff seemed to need more briefing about service arrangements for a guest. I hope that when it finally fully operates, the service is even better.
This hotel is also a museum that tells the story of the owner's family. If you love having an instagrammable picture for your social media, you would want to come here. The price includes some services which makes this hotel a great place for a staycation. The room was quite big. There was a guest area, a desk, a wardrobe, a big cupboard, and, of course, a big shower room. The interior of the room was a mixture of peranakan style, traditional old-style, colonial style, and modern style. I'd say it's very touristy. However, the bed was comfortable, so I don't mind with the cliché.

United KingdomI can't think of anything.
This hotel is so unique. I booked a couple of nights in Jakarta between flights during my honeymoon and was struck by the beautiful exterior. However, the photos do not do it justice. Even before our stay the staff showed themselves to be extraordinary with a fantastic level of communication and even making sure to ask for my wife's name so that they would be able to properly address her during our stay. The friendliness and professionalism of the staff absolutely blew us away and turned what we thought would be more of a layover into a real highlight of our trip. Everyone made us feel so welcome and at home, like truly honoured guests. It is also worth mentioning the food at both restaurants, including the afternoon tea that we so thoroughly enjoyed. I can't think of anywhere that I have had a tastier meal and the contemporary Indonesian cooking was so fresh and interesting that we felt truly satisfied throughout our stay. We spent so much time eating that there was little room for much else. Regardless, we also greatly enjoyed the spa and particularly the hotel tour, which we would highly recommend. This location is so interesting and has been developed in such a truly unique way that it is unlike anywhere else I have ever stayed. I can't wait to return. Thank you so much for making our honeymoon feel so special!
