How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe owner is super lovely and very helpful when it comes to planning your time in Banyuwangi and the place is in a good location if you wanna visit Ijen. I rented the stuff for Ijen and he hooked me up with the ticket as well and also gave me a ride to the train station (all at additional reasonable charges).
As previously mentioned by others, you get what you pay for.
Thank you so much

Verified reviewBudi is a great host, he picked me up at the ferry station and dropped me at the train station too. He was always asking me if everything was ok. He also offer the tour to Mt Ijen wich was a nice experience even when we had an awful weather.
The tour organization was good, and Mt Ijen is beautiful, but was overcrowded. I don't know if maybe because we did it on weekend but was completely collapsed of people, the way down to see the blue fire was dangerous because the amount of people going in both ways, probably not worth the risk and waking up at 12am just to see the fire. Maybe other tour alternatives as only sunrise or sunset on the crater viewpoint would be nice to avoid the amount of people.
Thank you

Nothing, it’s perfect for the cost

Verified reviewI had a great stay at Javalindra. For this price you cannot expect luxury, but it had all the right facilities for my time there. The host is amazing, he arranged a tour for Ijen, and also drove me to the train station, he is always there to help you. It's located in a small neighbourhood, there is not much to do around but there are some shops and restaurants close, and it's a great location if your focus is on visiting Ijen. So I really recommend if you're looking for a low budget private room!
Thank you

Verified reviewWe liked our time here. The area on the roof with the pool was a great place to relax. Budi was super friendly and made sure we were comfortable. Booking the Ijen tour through him also turned out great. Excellent value for money.
The lack of air-conditioning got a bit much for the four nights we stayed here. The room was also a bit small for the two of us. Would be fine for one night or one person, though.
Thank you

Verified reviewWe stayed here for 2 nights to do the ijen tour, which we could book through our host easily. The room and facilities are very basic, but we got a free update to a room with a private bathroom, which was nice. The sitting area with a small pool on the roof is a good place to chill and there are affordable restaurants near with good food. The host offered to pick us up and was overall welcoming.
Very basic accommodations, which was okay for a short stay though.
Thank you Miss Katharina ☺️☺️

Verified reviewI recently had the pleasure of staying at a homestay in Banyuwangi, and I can't recommend it enough! The host was incredibly friendly and always wore a warm smile. He went above and beyond to assist us, offering various affordable leisure options and helping us with transportation to and from our destinations. For the price, we received our own private room with all the necessary amenities, which was simply wonderful. The location is also very convenient, with shops and fruit stalls nearby, and easy access to the main road for exploring the area. A huge thank you to our amazing host for making our stay so enjoyable! If you're looking for a welcoming place to stay in Banyuwangi, this is the perfect spot!
It is little noisy on this neiborghood. But I guess, it's the problem all Indonesia
Thank you so much ☺️☺️

Verified reviewThe homestay is close to the main attraction:Iljen. Budi, the owner, will help you set up the trip and organise it perfectly. The property is basic which the price reflects (another positive) and the service is absolutely five star. We have not encountered a more friendly, helpful and kind host in our time here. He clearly cares about the rich heritage of his community and is proud to show you all the best sites. Budi showed us some of the most beautiful places in East Java (all reasonably priced) and more. If you are keen to experience the best of East Java, I would recommend staying in this homestay for two or three days whilst enjoying the warmth and hospitality of the homestay owner.
Thank you so much Mr. Amir 🙏

Verified reviewAmazingly kind host at your service. Budi picked me up at the bus terminal for the fair price and offers the tours to Iljen as well. Very low price with cheap but delicious breakfast. You could also use a small pool upstairs. Free drinking water available from.the big bottle.

Verified reviewBoth the stay and the host himself were exceptional. The host would contact prior to your arrival to see if there is anything you might need such as pick-up or to provide details for the Ijan tour. I recommend booking pick-up with the host since it is cheaper than the Grab. Also if you are coming from Bali, the host offers to help you book ticket for the ferry online, and can pay him in cash later. I did the Ijan tour provided by the homestay and would definitely recommend it. The tour bus would come and pick you up in front of the house and would drop you back there. The tour guides are very friendly and enjoy taking photos for the tourists (which left me with plenty of photos for my Insta haha). Also, they do not rush with hiking, they stop for the breaks multiple times so the tourists don't exhaust themselves, and keep asking if you are okay, or if you need any breaks, so there's no need to worry for those who are not physically fit.
None

Verified reviewThey offer very decent accommodation for the price, don’t expect any luxury but I’m guessing you don’t! They have a swimming pool on the top floor which is a nice touch. They offer a fairly priced group tour to Ijen, which was my reason for picking this homestay. And the brothers running it are very kind!
Close to 0 water pressure, so taking a full body shower took close to 15-20 mins and it’s a bit hot at night
Thank you

Verified reviewBudi and his family do everything to make your stay and trip to Mt Ijen as pleasant as possible. They offer everything needed to visit the volcano from pick ups and drop offs at the train station/Harbor over gas masks and flashlights to all inclusive tours. I decided to organise myself more individually but they always kept being really supportive in a very personal and matey way. Cosy double fan rooms with private bathroom and a roof top terrace with a little pool are unbeatable for that price.
Thank you so much Mr. Julian

Verified reviewIt's a great stay if you want to go to Ijen. Outside of the busy city, but not too far if you need anything and close to ijen (about 30min drive). You can rent a scooter, mask, flashlight here or book a tour to Ijen for a very good price. Budi, the owner is very helpful, answering all the questions and willing to help with anything you need. I arrived early in the morning and was allowed very early check-in, and again, I was allowed very late checkout as I was waiting for a night bus. I also enjoyed relaxing at the rooftop terrace. Free drinking water is also available.
Bathroom is a little small and not very well organised, but not a big issue, considering the price. Overall, it's a good value for money.
Thank you very much Mr. Ondrej

Verified reviewIt’s a good place to stay if you want to do the Ijen tour. The host is very nice and helpful. I was travelling by bicycle and had no issues with storing it safely inside the place. They added a nice touch with the swimming pool on the rooftop, all lit up at night. It’s basic but it’s all I needed.
Well, a chunk of it it’s a construction site. Hopefully they’re going to finish it, I think it’s worth it.
Thank you Mr. Peter

Verified reviewThis hostel makes you feel at home. I was picked up by the hostel owner Budi from the ferry port, got an upgrade to an even bigger room free of charge and instantly met other nice travelers. After I booked a motorcycle and the Ijen tour for the next day, totally uncomplicated and spontaneous, I sat on the cool rooftop area, which even has a small swimming pool! In this hostel you will never feel alone. You can buy the best breakfast for only 15.000 and ask everything about booking busses, tours or whatever you want to do. Budi will help you, or organize it for you :)
The only small critique I have, is that the bathroom doesn't have a sink. But there is a faucet in the wall, so you can still do everything you would do with a sink ^^
Thank you
