How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewSuch an amazing property out of the hustle and bustle with an authentic tranquil vibe. Idyllic views when you first wake up and a nice pool area to relax which is situated in the sun so always a nice temperature! The staff were also super friendly and there to accommodate all needs. The food options were also of high quality and very fresh ingredients, with loads of international options to suit children as well as authentic local dishes. Will definitely return next time we are in Ubud!
Nothing!

Verified reviewIf paradise exists, then it is at Mandala Desa. Jan and his home are authentic, and fortunately, we didn’t encounter the Bali of mass tourism here. Instead, we stayed in a traditional house reminiscent of the colonial period (no offense to the Indonesians), overlooking a wild and beautiful natural landscape. Jan is an exceptional host, and his staff will pamper you every moment, making you feel both a guest and a local at the same time. The true luxury here, beyond the meticulous attention to guests, is the sincerity of the place and the people. Nestled in a small rural village, Mandala Desa is an eastern gem I will never forget. Thank you, Ja

Verified reviewThe staff was amazing!! So kind, helpful and service minded. The pool area and garden were so beautiful and peaceful. The food was very good quality, and you get room service for every meal without an additional cost!
As with anywhere in Bali, there were a lot of insects, so bring bug spray and keep your food away from the ants. There were a lot of noises around since the neighbors had roosters, dogs and children making a lot of noise just behind the fence.

Verified reviewThe hosts are extremely welcoming and well organised (they created a WhatsApp group to coordinate the breakfast, other meals or activities). The room we stayed in (Rice field view) is very spacious and clean with a large bathroom and terrace. The accommodation is away from traffic and has a really nice pool, although we didn't have time to use it. We had breakfast and dinner and each meal was delicious. The accommodation strives to.br sustainable and they have taken many actions to be as eco-friendly as possible.
A general issue in some places in Bali: during the shower we always ran out of hot water and after a couple of minutes it came back. Staying so close to the rice fields meant geckos, mosquitos and other insects around and in the room. It shouldn't have been a problem, but the windows and doors don't fully close. There was about a 1.5 cm gap in the front 5 windows so if you kept the light on during the evening, you would invite a lot of insects inside. Personally, I was stressed about the mosquitos, especially because the rice fields near the house were full with water - the perfect conditions for mosquito larvae.

Interior of the villa a bit empty. Maybe to use some good designer would make it from perfect to extraordinary :)

Verified reviewThe attentive staff and owners really made this an outstanding stay. We started our trip in Bali at Mandala Desa and it was hard for any other stay to compare after this! There's so much special about this stay that it's hard to put it into words. The food was so good and Mandala Desa staff were super understanding of gluten free and were able to adapt almost everything on their menu. The local people were welcoming and had amazing stories. We wanted to thank all the staff for making our stay incredible. We certainly hope to be back in the future!

Verified reviewFound this place completely by accident and I wish we had more time to spend there. Everything was perfect. Even though location is further from bigger cities, there were still lots of activities around. It was really quiet and relaxing. The view of rice fields and mountains from the pool and villa was spectacular. Delicious homemade food. We stayed with toddler, they even served breakfast for him. Bed was comfortable, AC and Wifi worked fine. Staff was superb. Good communication with all team.

Verified reviewWe loved everything! The accommodation, grounds, staff, food, everything. Such a beautiful peaceful space. We spent 4 nights wth our two daughters aged 4 & 6 and they had a great time swimming, walking the grounds and feeding the horses, feeding the fish, eating dinner outside and just relaxing in the room. It is very close to Bali Zoo and a quick grab to the butterfly park in Sukawati, the staff even drove us to the zoo. The Indonesian food and home made bread were highlights. Highly recommend and we would stay again! Oh yes and the VIEW, even from the outdoor shower is beautiful.
Couldn’t fault it, especially for the price!

Verified reviewWe had the most wonderful few days at Mandal Desa - the staff was very friendly and helpful, there were there at any time we needed them, villa itself was spacious and clean, children thoroughly enjoyed the pool, lovely breakfast and complimentary treats. We certainly enjoyed our time there and hoping to be back one day.
The village itself is quite ordinary, we really enjoy walking and exploring on foot, however, Mandala Desa is quite isolated and there is nothing to see in the village. However, it is the only con of the whole stay.

Verified reviewWe had booked elsewhere for 7 nights but were forced to leave after 2 nights as it was totally misrepresented. Luckily we found MandalaDesa and it became our safe haven and an absolute delight to come to. We felt very much looked after by the hosts and the excellent staff. They introduced us to Tude the driver who took great care of us. We have to especially thank all the staff as they were all so kind and helpful. We also ended up having all our meals in-house and they were very well prepared and tasty and my wife's dietary were fully met. Thank you. Another thing to note is that MandalaDesa is in a very authentic Bali style complex and right in Sukawati next door to rice paddies. Very interesting to view the fields being prepared for planting. Sukawati turned out to be very nice to discover, lots of interesting houses, shops, temples and locals who, without fail, were friendly and helpful. Thank you all at MandalaDesa you SAVED our Bali Holiday.

Verified reviewSuch a place of beauty and relaxation! The villa was very comfortable and private and had stunning views of the rice fields, palm trees and volcanos in the distance. The pool was amazing and enjoyed by our kids in both sun and rain. Every breakfast was AMAZING - the Nasi Goreng, the pancakes, the omelet, home made bread, fruit and juice, excellent coffee. We ordered in lunch and dinner too and they were delicious. The short walk nearby was great for views and local life seeing cows and chickens. We visited both the Bali reptile park and Bali bird park which are nearby and we would highly recommend. But probably the overall highlight was the brilliant staff - Kobo, Koman and others who were so lovely, as was the owner Jan, as well as the drivers who they organised. Just a stunning stay, we would love to come back one day.
Nothing! Even on a very wet day we enjoyed ping pong, scrabble, watching a film on our laptop in the cosy room, and rainy pool swims 🙂

Verified reviewGreat location in a quiet area surrounded by beautiful rice fields - the best price-quality ratio I had during my stay on the island. Very good service and delicious breakfasts (especially in the gazebo, which added a lot to the experience of eating together with the family). Very nice owner and a big plus for preparing a pdf document with recommendations and information about the facility.

Verified reviewOur villa had been cleaned impeccably. It was spacious for our foursome. No issues with mosquitoes as the villa was sealed up fairly well. Aircon was nice and reliable. Actually, we had very little issue with bugs in the unit at all, a rarity for our time in Bali. The breakfast was excellent. 4 options offered and all well executed. My personal favorite: Omelette. You'll love the homemade bread. The staff was very attentive and on point with any issue that arose. The property is beautiful with horses and pet birds for the family to enjoy visiting. Bikes we could use to sightsee and get around! The owners Irmi and Jan (who live on the property) were so warm and made sure we had everything we needed.
It's clear many guests don't use the bikes so they were in need of maintenance. Nothing the hotel can control but Bali is still contending with reducing trash in its waterways. Something felt only when I was off the property grounds.

Verified reviewMandala Desa felt like paradise home for our family. A warm THANK YOU to Jan & Irmi and their friendly staff! It is so peaceful and beautiful at every corner: kids loved feeding the horses, little fish in the pond next to our villa, trampoline, table tennis, swimming pool with rice fields view, delicious breakfast and good options for food when we came back after a long exciting day. I can go on as it was truly one of the most charming and peaceful places. Location was superb too: kids attractions (safari, zoo, bird's and reptile parks), waterfalls nearby, surfing and diving reachable (we did 2 dives from Sanur - totally recommend), bike trips through rice fields. Thank You, Jan, Irmi and the family! We hope to be back!
Nothing, it was a paradise and felt like home away from home!
Thank you so much for your stay - was loverly to have you here and see you enjoy the place and surrounding. Hope to see you again soon. All the best!

Verified reviewBoutique hotel with 4 rooms and 2 villsa, we were 2 adults and our 2 kids (3&5) and rented Villa 2. We took Grab to the location from the airport. The Villa had was very nice overlooking fields and some trees, birds and butterflies flying about. Horses and a pony in their lower paddock and the kids took a pony ride. Nice garden and you can walk a short distance on paths nearby in the area, which I did with whichever kid woek first in the morning. Very close to the Zoo and close ish to waterfalls, bird park and the Bali Safari. Kids enjoyed the stick insect, a frog, caterpillars and snails outside. Pool was nice for a cool down swim after day activities. Breakfast included was decent and also a reasonable choice of other foods for order later in the day. Complimentary afternoon tea was a nice touch. Decetnt staff and owners also nice people. We stayed 5 nights and very much enjoyed it.
Nothing really
