Our breakfast came basically wrapped in cling film. Not only cling film on the plates, but also the cups and even the cutlery was packed in a thick layer of horrid unrecyclable plastic wrap. Totally unnecessary and a shame to see, knowing that there is no waste management on most Indonesian islands and waste usually ends up in landfill, in the sea, or being burned openly. Also the plastic water bottles in the room could be easily avoided by providing a jug or a glass bottle with filtered water (I noticed a drinking water filter in the kitchen).

    Breathtaking views.

The jungle bungalows lack wifi, but the 4G network seems to work well in the location, so not really as issue. The Heaven's Gate restaurant does have wifi, but it was rather weak, possibly due to the number of dining guests using the system. Again, 4G solves that problem. As the jungle bungalows are in the jungle, literally, there are mosquitos at certain times of the day, however the netted beds inside and outside solve this. We were careful with our entry and exit to the bungalow, so had no problem with mossies insider and didn't use the nets once. We requested a standing fan for air movement and would suggest that all bungalows be provided with one as a standard feature. A/C is not provided, nor is it needed here, as nights are wonderfully cool. The Heaven's Gate restaurant, being the only one nearby, will be your main food provider, so it would be helpful if they stocked the materials needed to prepare their popular dishes. They seemed to be out of 3 or 4 dishes on a regular basis. The food quality and service was very good though, so no issue there. Just a bit better handle on availability of dishes would be nice.

Manulalu Jungle Bungalows are sited on a ridge overlooking the Gunung Inerie volcano. The views from the bungalow of the volcano and countryside is unsurpassed. Seven bungalows are sited here, but done so in a way that they have no direct sight to each other, so ultimate privacy. It is just you and the nature surrounding you. The inside bed is super comfortable, affording a restful sleep, and the outside bed (also netted), allows for daytime gazing and napping. Attention to detail in the design is amazing. The hot water shower is spacious, and the entire bathroom very light and airy, with views of the valley below. The bungalows are supported by the resorts restaurant, Heaven's Gate, as Manulalu Parorama, which offers a limited but ample assortment of food and beverages, coupled with a drop dead gorgeous view of the volcano. Transport to the restaurant, about 1km away, is provided on request gratis by hotel staff. Breakfast can be taken at the restaurant or delivered hot to your bungalow by staff. We found the veggie omelet to be quite tasty.

    Nothing!

The location was absolutely stunning. No wonder the restaurant is called Heaven’s Door. The bungalow was amazing. Large bed, another bed on the veranda to curl up on in the Evenings or mornings to watch the sunrise. Lovely bathroom. The staff were great and more than happy (Jimmy) to ferry us up to the wonderful eclectic reception/restaurant and back. Even had one impromptu night of Ryan and Jimmy jamming (guests included if you want!) fabulous fun evening. The best. Yep, it’s the Jungle and there are critters but how often do you have a praying mantis as a room mate? Idyllic and would have no hesitation wholeheartedly recommending.

The place is on the pricey side so one expects excellence but we all felt it was just very good, not excellent. We’ve had water boiler issue which couldn’t be fixed so we had to go to other bungalow to take shower. Didn’t understand why they just didn’t move us there right away. The second morning they forgot about our pre ordered breakfast and had to make it after we texted them. To navigate between restaurant and bungalows isn’t too quick, especially around dinner time when it’s dark. None of this ruined the experience, just made us questions the value for money a bit. Keep up the good work!

Just to confirm what others are saying: the setting. It couldn’t be located in a better place. The view on Inerie is absolutely gorgeous. The bungalows on their own are also beautiful and look amazing on the pictures. The decor is lovely and outdoor seating space is beautiful. The restaurant with that view is also mmm amazing. The food is quite good as well. And the staff is absolutely great! Very friendly and welcoming.

Check in was very complicated as you needed to go to the restaurant which was 1 km away and then come back to the room. We got there quite late and it added a bit of inconvenience. Getting around would be very hard without a scooter or car. They organised a scooter for us pretty quickly and then it was super easy to get to the restaurant and also travel in the area.

The room and view was amazing, you could see the sea, the forest, the traditional village and the volcano. Really good hot shower!

Perhaps not an issue really as we only had one night here but no WiFi in the rooms. You have to go to the hotel.

The location is everything! Beautifully positioned garden cottages about 1km from the main hotel/restaurant. This was a relief as the place was a bit of a throwback to backpacking days - fine in itself but not what we were expecting! Food/drink is bought to the room so you don’t need to make the steep ascent on foot or accept a scooter ride!! Lovely bed and the terrace with day bed allows you to relax and enjoy the fabulous views. Lovely staff who couldn’t do enough to help. Highly recommended for a peaceful escape!

View is literally amazing from the bungalow terrace. Bungalow is so nice and well decorated. Terrace is huge with a little bed on which you can chill. Restaurant is very good and you can ask to have breakfast from your bungalow as the restaurant is 1km away from the bungalows.

NOTHING! If I had to be really picky though, a hairdryer would have been nice.

What’s not to like? You get a huge bungalow, a wonderful view of Gunung Inerie, and the yummiest food served at their restaurant. The view from the restaurant when you step out onto the verandah is drop-dead gorgeous - leaving no doubt as to why the place is called Heaven’s Door. Thank you also, for upgrading my room from a double room to a family unit! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

The restaurant was rather mediocre and could be a bit more traditional re the menu. The prices are quite high for Indonesian standards.

Be ready, and bring insect repellent for the mosquitos!

An amazing setting in the jungle. Close to all the main attractions - Bena village and Melange hot springs were highlights for us. It is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Bajawa, offering a peaceful sanctuary for our trip. Jimmy was incredibly helpful, and we learnt a lot about the region and culture through our conversations with him. The restaurant was very reasonably priced and had very tasty food with both local and western options. Shuttle is offered any time of the day to the restaurant --- we preferred to walk to wake ourselves up in the morning, and look at the stars at night -- away from the lights of the city -- it was perfect.

The walk to the restaurant was long and hot! Would certainly have spent more time there if access was easier. The bugs were invasive! It was difficult to sit outside and enjoy the view at certain times when the mosquitoes invaded. The huge cockroaches would throw themselves against the walls in the evening - quiet funny actually - the attack of the cockroaches, but they couldn't get in if you make sure to close the doors at all times. When we first arrived, we had to clean up the dead bugs and spray the unit - perhaps this could have been done by staff before our arrival. The units are very spacious, but the space is quite empty apart from a bed and a desk. A sitting area inside would have been nice. Overall, the units could do with some refreshing.

The view was stunning and the location was amazing - far from the hustle and bustle of the town. The accommodations were lovely and very spacious. The bathroom was a beautiful room! The breakfast that was delivered to our room was very good. The ride back to our villa from the restaurant after dinner was much appreciated. The restaurant food (Heaven's Door) was amazing and the staff were helpful and pleasant. The bug lotion provided was effective and much appreciated.

Wifi access missing in bungalows although very good data connection, could be turned easily into a functioning wifi by the resort. Lack of communication before arriving regarding check-in and the the relevant distance between reception and bungalows. Automatic message informing guests about baggage drop first at the bungalows and then coming uphill to the reception would have been highly useful. Reasonable prices in the restaurant, quality rather mediocre.

The resort and especially the very spacious bungalows are beautifully located overlooking the valley and the Inerie volcano. Speaking of the bathroom it features a special exotic decoration and creates a very pleasant atmosphere. Interiors are clean, relatively new and functional therefore critical reviews did not apply to this. Insects in this surrounding are fairly normal and part of the experience - no problem for us. Option to have breakfast being brought to your bungalow is fantastic.
