How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewBreathtaking views.
Our breakfast came basically wrapped in cling film. Not only cling film on the plates, but also the cups and even the cutlery was packed in a thick layer of horrid unrecyclable plastic wrap. Totally unnecessary and a shame to see, knowing that there is no waste management on most Indonesian islands and waste usually ends up in landfill, in the sea, or being burned openly. Also the plastic water bottles in the room could be easily avoided by providing a jug or a glass bottle with filtered water (I noticed a drinking water filter in the kitchen).

Verified reviewManulalu Jungle Bungalows are sited on a ridge overlooking the Gunung Inerie volcano. The views from the bungalow of the volcano and countryside is unsurpassed. Seven bungalows are sited here, but done so in a way that they have no direct sight to each other, so ultimate privacy. It is just you and the nature surrounding you. The inside bed is super comfortable, affording a restful sleep, and the outside bed (also netted), allows for daytime gazing and napping. Attention to detail in the design is amazing. The hot water shower is spacious, and the entire bathroom very light and airy, with views of the valley below. The bungalows are supported by the resorts restaurant, Heaven's Gate, as Manulalu Parorama, which offers a limited but ample assortment of food and beverages, coupled with a drop dead gorgeous view of the volcano. Transport to the restaurant, about 1km away, is provided on request gratis by hotel staff. Breakfast can be taken at the restaurant or delivered hot to your bungalow by staff. We found the veggie omelet to be quite tasty.
The jungle bungalows lack wifi, but the 4G network seems to work well in the location, so not really as issue. The Heaven's Gate restaurant does have wifi, but it was rather weak, possibly due to the number of dining guests using the system. Again, 4G solves that problem. As the jungle bungalows are in the jungle, literally, there are mosquitos at certain times of the day, however the netted beds inside and outside solve this. We were careful with our entry and exit to the bungalow, so had no problem with mossies insider and didn't use the nets once. We requested a standing fan for air movement and would suggest that all bungalows be provided with one as a standard feature. A/C is not provided, nor is it needed here, as nights are wonderfully cool. The Heaven's Gate restaurant, being the only one nearby, will be your main food provider, so it would be helpful if they stocked the materials needed to prepare their popular dishes. They seemed to be out of 3 or 4 dishes on a regular basis. The food quality and service was very good though, so no issue there. Just a bit better handle on availability of dishes would be nice.

Verified reviewThe location was absolutely stunning. No wonder the restaurant is called Heaven’s Door. The bungalow was amazing. Large bed, another bed on the veranda to curl up on in the Evenings or mornings to watch the sunrise. Lovely bathroom. The staff were great and more than happy (Jimmy) to ferry us up to the wonderful eclectic reception/restaurant and back. Even had one impromptu night of Ryan and Jimmy jamming (guests included if you want!) fabulous fun evening. The best. Yep, it’s the Jungle and there are critters but how often do you have a praying mantis as a room mate? Idyllic and would have no hesitation wholeheartedly recommending.
Nothing!

Verified reviewJust to confirm what others are saying: the setting. It couldn’t be located in a better place. The view on Inerie is absolutely gorgeous. The bungalows on their own are also beautiful and look amazing on the pictures. The decor is lovely and outdoor seating space is beautiful. The restaurant with that view is also mmm amazing. The food is quite good as well. And the staff is absolutely great! Very friendly and welcoming.
The place is on the pricey side so one expects excellence but we all felt it was just very good, not excellent. We’ve had water boiler issue which couldn’t be fixed so we had to go to other bungalow to take shower. Didn’t understand why they just didn’t move us there right away. The second morning they forgot about our pre ordered breakfast and had to make it after we texted them. To navigate between restaurant and bungalows isn’t too quick, especially around dinner time when it’s dark. None of this ruined the experience, just made us questions the value for money a bit. Keep up the good work!

Verified reviewThe room and view was amazing, you could see the sea, the forest, the traditional village and the volcano. Really good hot shower!
Check in was very complicated as you needed to go to the restaurant which was 1 km away and then come back to the room. We got there quite late and it added a bit of inconvenience. Getting around would be very hard without a scooter or car. They organised a scooter for us pretty quickly and then it was super easy to get to the restaurant and also travel in the area.

Verified reviewThe location is everything! Beautifully positioned garden cottages about 1km from the main hotel/restaurant. This was a relief as the place was a bit of a throwback to backpacking days - fine in itself but not what we were expecting! Food/drink is bought to the room so you don’t need to make the steep ascent on foot or accept a scooter ride!! Lovely bed and the terrace with day bed allows you to relax and enjoy the fabulous views. Lovely staff who couldn’t do enough to help. Highly recommended for a peaceful escape!
Perhaps not an issue really as we only had one night here but no WiFi in the rooms. You have to go to the hotel.

Verified reviewView is literally amazing from the bungalow terrace. Bungalow is so nice and well decorated. Terrace is huge with a little bed on which you can chill. Restaurant is very good and you can ask to have breakfast from your bungalow as the restaurant is 1km away from the bungalows.
Maybe a little bit more expensive but would go again for the same price anyway

Some staffs were not very attentive. I had to wait 1.5hr for food to arrived. Thanks to the 2 staffs near my room who contacted the kitchen to rush them. I was starving. The reception staffs weren’t as nice as the staff down at the villas
