How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewHaving stayed at Paradise for 20 times over 28 years, we obviously love it. Stones throw from the ocean. Julie was always a lot of fun and laughter at breakfast.
Included breakfast was fine, but meals in the restaurant are more expensive than Mata Hari next door? It's always been like that. A revue on pricing could turn this around.

Verified reviewThe size of the room and comfortable bed. Great location if you like snorelling or diving.Lovely clean pool and on the seafront. (black stony beach) A great place to come and chill.
We would like to have seen more variety at breakfast. No drinks such as juice were included in the breakfast, instead our 9 year old got offered tea or coffee. Although there were a handful of warungs around, there wasn't much to do or see in the evening. Taxi service from here has been the most expensive in my six weeks of travelling.

Verified reviewWe had one of the best experiences of our lives in Tulamben: we discovered the incredible world of diving. The owner of the place was very kind and helpful throughout our stay. He arranged everything for us: provided a scooter, helped us plan our dives with the dive school, and made sure we had everything we needed. As for the property itself, we really enjoyed the pool and the beautiful beach view. The outdoor area was lovely, with a well-kept garden, and we often had the pool all to ourselves, which made it even more special. One of the biggest highlights was the location, the best dive spots are right in front of the property, making it a perfect place for divers.
Anyway, we had to leave a less-than-great review due to the condition of the rooms. When we arrived, the owner immediately asked if we wanted to upgrade from a room with no air conditioning and only cold water (the option we paid in the first place apparently) which we accepted right away, as the weather was extremely hot. Given the price we paid, we were expecting something of higher quality. Instead, we ended up in a fairly basic room, and unfortunately, the bathroom had some insects — including cockroaches. This made the stay a bit uncomfortable, as we were constantly worried about finding another “visitor” under the bed or in the bathtub. That said, this was really our only negative experience.

Verified reviewLocation for diving in Tulamben was good. Room was comfortable and seaside pool was nice.
Not sure why but no one ate at restaurant. It wasn’t great value for money compared to other places at 500k per night for aircon room.

Verified reviewThe location was good, in this mecca for divers and snorklers. Staff was very friendly.
We were NOT given the room that was pictured on the net, but an older one in mediocre condition. Bedside reading light blown out, no mosquito netting, holes in window screen stuffed with toilet paper by previous guest ... manager responded to this report by saying "Oh there was a guest in there a day or two ago; he must have done it"... The fact that no one noticed this is indicative. The 'shower' was a flexible hose attached to the bath faucet, but it would only reach to mid-chest, so one had to sit in the tub to shower. The tub was deep and narrow, with nothing to grip when getting out, so getting out was VERY difficult; it took me, a senior, several frustrating minutes. The only bath amenities supplies were a couple of tiny bars of soap. I was told that there was a safe, but discovered after searching that it was a locking wooden cabinet. "Breakfast included" was a choice of pineapple of banana pancake. That was it. We were told that the place was being renovated. I hope that they make SUBSTANTIAL improvement.

Verified reviewIt is in a very convenient location, just on the seaside. The coral reef is a 50-meter swim away. An extraordinary wrecked ship is easily reachable, offering a spectacular experience if you dive around it or even just snorkel above.
Breakfast could be more generous. Renting snorkeling equipment was expensive - about 50% the value of the equipment for one day

Verified reviewOur rating of 8 is based on the current hotel status, with construction. We have no doubt it will be back to a 10 once the repairs and upgrades are complete! Loved the infinity pool overlooking the ocean. Location for shore diving and snorkeling can not be beat, you are steps away from the best dive sites in Tulamben. The staff was incredible, friendly and accommodating - big thank you to Gede for all his logistics help, and to Juli, Ketut and the entire kitchen staff for keeping us well fed. While there is currently no dive shop on premises (they are building a new one as of Nov 2024) Gede (manager) was amazing in coordinating all our diving logistics, and the shore diving is available literally steps from the property, even during construction.
The hotel was shut down for several years and is currently in the process of being brought back to its former glory. So while we were there (November 2024), construction was going on for new rooms, a new dive shop, etc. This did not bother us, as we were happy to see resources going into repairs and upgrades, but it can present minor inconveniences.

Verified reviewStaff were lovely and very helpful, room was very spacious, location was perfect.
Bed wasn't very comfortable, there isn't actually a dive centre attached anymore, they organise for you to go through a dive centre down the road which ended up being more a bit expensive than other centres.

Verified review*Fantastic location with a nice Coral Garden right there and USAT liberty shipwreck 300 meters away *Helpfull staff, that gave us advise about the city and helped us with transportation to our next stay, they also allowed us to trade the included pancakes in the breakfast for eggs prepared in a variety of ways. *Room was nice, but get the one with aircondition, even though the price is very steep, it is well worth it. If in doubt about where to live in Tulamben, then I can assure you that the location of this Resort i phenomenal. Which was the reason we chose it.
There were cockroaches in the bathroom when we arrived, that seemed to be coming from the bathroom drain. Wish they would put some kind of metal mesh into the drains. Out Solution was to put a stone to block it when it was not in use, which seemed to keep them out. Although cockroaches is really common everywhere in Indonesia, so I would not disqualify the place on that premise.
