Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustriaA/C is facing the heads while sleeping and a slight damp smell. But after a while in the room the smell goes away. Not really room to place a bag/suitcase.
Very friendly staff, superb breakfast and service and very nice rooms. Everything clean. Beautiful outdoor area.

I loved the room setup and bathroom, the charming courtyard, and the location. It was less than a 1/2 hour walk to the Kraton. Vredeburg Fort Museum, and Malioboro Street. The breakfast was decent, and they made breakfast to go if you were out early on a tour. Check in and out was a breeze.

NetherlandsI was by myself and the Grab/Bluebird app kept leading the driver to a different alley than the alley where Sastro Place is based. At night, this means you’ll have to walk through a few dark alleys to get to Sastro Place. However, I’ve never had any issues and people in the neightbourhood were actually really helpful with helping me find Sastro Place 🙏
I’ve really enjoyed staying at this pretty accommodation, runned by a very kind family. Good communication via Whatsapp, the breakfast is great and although the room is basic - it is equiped with the things you need for a short stay in Yogyakarta.

GermanyThe curtains do not cover all the windows, so lights in front of the room are not blocked (I slept with a mask, so it was fine, but it would be useful to be able to switch off the lights when you go to bed or have curtains covering the small windows). There is only one kind of soap provided in the shower, no shampoo.
Good location with the city centre (palace/ shopping mall) in walking distance (30min). The staff is very friendly with good contact via WhatsApp. Nice breakfast with fixed options in a changing menu. Very good value for the price!

United KingdomIt's a long/awkward walk down a tiny alleyway to reach the place, not the easiest with heavy suitcases. They only gave us a small thin blanket for the bed so I woke up feeling very cold (can't turn the AC off otherwise I get eaten alive by mosquitoes and it also gets too humid, we tried!). I did request an extra blanket and they provided one which helped. Not much room to put the suitcases so it made the room feel quite small.
We loved our stay at Sastro Place! The staff was super friendly, the room was lovely, everything was decorated amazingly giving a very instagramable vibe! The included breakfast in the morning is a nice touch.

BelgiumNot much at all. We only suggested to maybe add an Indonesian course on the breakfast menu. But the pancakes are nice too.
The staff is so nice ! We forgot part of our luggage and the staff was able to make a shipping arrangement for us and got our things mailed to another hotel further on our trip! Amazing ! The laundry service is also very nice to have at your doorstep.

IrelandThe homestay was really unique. The rooms were really clean. The pool in the front was a refreshing way to cool down during the day. The property was a short grab from many central locations. The staff were amazing! They really went above and beyond at every step. Their communication was great throughout. They even offered to pack us a breakfast to go on mornings we had early starts with tours etc,.

GermanyExtremly friendly staff and in a quiet small street, so quiet at night. Very good breakfast and good to relax after a walk through the busy city in the small pool. Street might look dodgey at night but is not. Not directly in the city center but easy to go with a grab. Would highly recommend!

NetherlandsWhat a lovely place! Beautiful little pool in a gorgeous garden, clean, with everything you need, good service, and a nice takeaway breakfast for when you head out. The only downside is the mosque that wakes you up around 4:45 AM despite using wax earplugs — it lasts about 10 minutes, but that’s common everywhere in Yogyakarta. The location is 12 minutes from Malioboro by Grab, in a cozy side street. The cameras and gate also make you feel safe.

MalaysiaWe encountered some ants on our blankets, so we decided to remove them from the room for the night. The air conditioning worked fine, but due to the small size of the room, it cooled down very quickly. However, once the AC was turned off, the room became hot and humid. Perhaps with the blankets, it would have been more comfortable. The biggest challenge we faced was the early morning prayer at 4 a.m., which was extremely loud and lasted quite a while (the last one we heard ended about 40 minutes later). While this is likely the case for most city center locations, it can be difficult to sleep through if you’re not accustomed to it. Even earplugs might not block out the sound entirely. It’s something to consider if you’re sensitive to noise or value uninterrupted sleep.
A lovely and cozy place with a thoughtfully designed room that makes great use of the small space. The pool area looked inviting, even though we didn’t get the chance to use it during our stay. The staff were exceptionally kind and accommodating. As we had to leave early before breakfast, they went the extra mile to prepare a takeaway meal for us. A great touch of hospitality!

United KingdomPool was more of a hot tub, only the jets didnt work! Still nice to chill in after a long day. Never actually met the staff, friendly shopkeepers next door are main contacts, but the owner was very responsive on Whatsapp, would have been nice to meet face to face tho.
Location a little weird, down a narrow alley not accessible by car but only 2 mins walk max from the main road. Can walk to Malioboro in about 10 or 15 mins. Room was great, nice bathroom and comfy bed.
