How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. The place is an oasis of calm and beauty, with the soft sound of nature, beautifully designed spaces, and warm, welcoming staff. The team is attentive, respectful and always available if you need anything. My room was spotless, the garden very well mantained and relaxing, and the breakfast was amazing. You can feel the love and detail in every corner of the place. This is not just a stay it's an experience! . Overly chlorinated pool - the only issue.

We are deeply disappointed that Booking.com has chosen to retain the score from a guest who behaved in a clearly **racist and aggressive manner** toward our Selvática team. While the hateful comments were eventually removed due to their **highly discriminatory and racist content**, the score remains visible — because, according to Booking, it is "important to reflect the guest's experience." We strongly disagree. This rating does not represent our service, but rather the unjust opinion of someone who disrespected our team and our values. This review is still under dispute due to the poor handling of the situation by Booking.com. We stand firmly against any form of racism or hate, and we will continue to protect the dignity of our staff and our guests.

Verified reviewThe garden is very peaceful and pretty, the cleaning is done everyday, the mosquito net is in very good shape, the ac works well, they provide mosquito repellent, the bed is comfortable, the staff is nice
- The room had a moldy or damp smell despite the staff spraying with air fresheners and keeping the ac on. - We sent the laundry and it was was on the pricier side of 40k per kg whereas other places on the island have it as low as 15k. however it was also our mistake because we did not ask in advance for the price. - the main breakfast items could be a bit improved
Thank you for your feedback. Regarding the smell in the room — please note that what you experienced was not mold, but rather the natural scent of a bamboo bungalow after tropical rain. During your stay, it rained several times, and this natural damp scent can be unfamiliar if you're not used to staying in places surrounded by nature. We do our best to keep things fresh, but we also embrace the essence of being in the middle of a tropical paradise. As for the laundry, the price is 40k IDR per kilo, which is less than €2 — and includes a convenient full service where you simply hand us the laundry and receive it back clean and folded. We understand that some places on the island offer cheaper options, and we’re happy for guests to explore those alternatives if budget is a concern. We never hide our prices, but we also encourage guests to ask if unsure. Lastly, we appreciate your note on breakfast and are always working on improving our offerings. Verified reviewA lovely quiet spot which feels like you are really in nature, there is no noise at night and yet you are only a short walk/ cycle from the turtle snorkelling area of the beach and restaurants. The staff are super accomodating - we ate at all their restaurant recommendations which were fab. Bike and snorkel hire direct from them was very helpful.
Breakfast was a little limited and the coffee was the worst we have had in all of Indonesia - recommend going to nearby Pachamama for better coffee. There are also a few bugs in the room - this is massively helped by the double room sweep the staff do and turn down service at night and the net, we appreciated that, but worth noting.

Verified reviewStaff is what makes your stay at Selvatica special. Ejal, Gita and the other guys were very attentive, kind and fun. They accommodated our requests and were always helpful.
Bungalows are very small and they lack your typical amenities like kettle and mini-fridge. Breakfast is served at 8, which is quite late for early risers or if you have activities booked or ferries to catch.
