Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

NetherlandsCozy house with good beds. Breakfast and dinner were included and were excellent. The owner prepares it fresh and takes requests. Kentang goreng for the kids! :-) She can also arrange a driver/guide for tours in the Rantepao area and transfer to for example Makassar. The driver we had was very good and the minivan we rented for the transfer was also very good!

IndonesiaAll places can be improved but there was nothing much I wasn’t happy with. One improvement would be to have a large water dispenser guests can fill from rather than generating all those small bottles.
I loved the four nights I stayed here, having extended from the initial two nights. The host spoke good English, was friendly and helpful even to the extent of getting some material for me in Rantepao that I admired. It was a tablecloth on my terrace table that overlooked the rice fields, mountains and the traditional houses. The room was very clean and well appointed with the doors acting as French doors. I liked the nice artistic decorative touches of local craft culture. The host can assist in getting a guide, scooter and transport. There is a 7km circuit walk from here that goes up the hill, past traditional houses and overlooks the valley. Breakfast and dinner were always varied and had extra touches that made them tasty. The serves were generous. The homestay, regardless of room, had a view and a strong sense of place. You knew you were in Tana Taraja.

PolandWe loved it, the property itself and the immediate surroundings are beautiful, and the view from the huge windows is wonderful, directly onto the traditional houses and mountains.
The location is outside the city center, but close to all the trails. The hostess was a great cook and took very good care of us, attending to our every need. We had a guide and driver, invaluable in exploring the region.

AustraliaWe had problems with hot water, toilet flushing and wifi. The first two were fixed as soon as we informed Manaek, but we were without wifi for 2 nights, which meant a lot of hassles with getting more credit on our phones. The homestay is out of town which should make it peaceful, however there were barking dogs all night, noisy roosters and music from a nearby church starting around 5am, and thin walls. The rooms are on the second floor with very steep steps.
Homestay was very homely. Manaek was lovely and very accommodating. Endless free mineral water provided. Beds were comfy. Plenty of surfaces in the room to put your things. View was beautiful and located next to Tongkonan and rice barns. The meals were excellent and plenty on offer. No shortage of cats, dogs, chickens and a buffalo and a lunch garden you can look at while eating a meal.

AustraliaThe place is fantastic, simple, super clean, with comfy beds and an amazing location in one of the most beautiful parts of Indonesia. The lady in charge is lovely, and both breakfast and dinner were great. For anyone reading this: go to Makassar, rent a bike, cross the mountains, and ride to Tana Toraja via the secondary roads, an unforgettable trip.

ItalyAmazing place, the room was perfect and the food the best we had in Sulawesi. Best place for visiting Tanah Toraja, very calm because it's a bit outside of the city center but if you drive a scooter or if you have a guide with a car it's perfect and very easy to reach. Highly recommended!

SingaporeGood meals and friendly staff, with a great day time view of the surroundings. However, water pressure and wifi could be improved, and rooms could be slightly cleaner. Slightly expensive for Toraja, but overall still good value.

NetherlandsIf you are not used to countryside life, then better bring some earplugs. The nights are very noisy. There are barking dogs, yelling roosters, and locals driving their bike around.
A beautiful homestay with an amazing host. The breakfast was great every morning and the dinners were amazing. The homestay is comfortable and the host is always willing to help, no matter your requests.

This place was soo homey… it’s a little bit out of town, but it was perfect for us as we had a driver. We have a beautiful view of the Lumbung from our bedroom. The breakfasts are big in the morning and you can choose how you like your eggs. Mana’ek also cooked our dinners at night at they were so delicious. You don’t need to worry where to eat at night!

NetherlandsIt was a little bit far away from Rantepao city centre, 40 minute walk. However, this was a nice road to walk, and as we rented a motorbike for two days we could use our motorbike to go into town.
Manaek is a lovely sweet woman who seems to run the place. She prepares breakfast and dinner for the guests and she always smiles. The people are always willing to help you, with transportation or tours etc. The homestay is next to beautiful traditional houses and located in between the rice fields with beautiful views. It is perfect if you are looking for a peaceful stay in nature, compared to the noisy city centre of Rantepao.

GermanySadly, we were the only guests during most of our stay, but we really hope this was just a coincidence, as this place deserves to be discovered and visited!
This is a homestay in the best possible interpretation (in our opinion)! The family has converted their traditional farmhouse into a nice little boutique hotel with a few rooms - all have big windows to enjoy the beautiful views across the rice fields and mountains. On the yard you have the typcial traditional houses to look at, while the rooms are in a modern building with all the comfort you need (own bathroom, wifi, shared fridge, comfortable beds etc.). Breakfast and dinner is served at separate tables in a shared area or on covered balconies. The food was always delicous and freshly cooked, the host ... always asked for our preferences and even our sometimes picky son found enough nice options to eat (just a simple thing like serving the components of a meal on separate plates can do magic). Every morning there was a different fresh fruit juice to enjoy, the staff was all very friendly and they all speak very good English. They were always around if we needed them, could recommend a wonderful guide (Mr. Anis) who we booked for 2 days to take us around the area, did our laundry before we moved on and overall you still have a maximum of privacy around the house. The place is a bit outside of central Rantepao, so you will need some transport to get here, but either you are travelling with a driver or you can get a taxi. Not an issue for us, as we were away most of the day to explore the area and were happy to return to our relaxing "home" in the evenings.
