Beautiful place, the guys are amazing. The bungalow is cozy and air conditioned. The breakfast was very good, either with eggs or pancakes. Everything was perfect for a relaxing holiday!

The best accommodation ever! Very very nice guys. A warm welcome with drinks and music, we were singing and playing guitar together. Very familiar vibes! They really cared about us and can fulfill every wish, e.g. transfer, laundry service, best places and tours. Thank you for making our stay so special!

Great place close to the beach , located in the quiet part of the island . Nice bungalows, cool guys behind the front desk - very helpful (offered to locknuts up from the Barbour free of charge and then gave us lift back on the last day.

All was good. The only thing I can say is do not book a snorkeling experience with boys. snorkeling company they recommended was terrible with old, crappy equipment, they promised 3-4hr trip but ended up 2hrs and 15 min. In a rush, difficult to communicate (no English), we didn’t like it. It was nice to see turtles and some corals but there are better companies on the island with more decent equipment and better attitude - even if you pay more it will be worth it.

Our stay at Triqui Trees was magnificent. The facilities are very beautiful and well-maintained, the hotel is very close to the beach, just a couple of minutes' walk, and the staff is charming and attentive, always willing to help and advise us. There was a great atmosphere in the reception/bar area, with great music. The breakfasts were delicious and lovingly prepared.

    - The best thing in this place was the staff ! Very welcoming people and very kind. The British owner should be thankful to have so great people working for him ! - Also the place was new and very clean. So here another good point. But the last.

The main issue was the noise from the doors 🚪 (both the bathroom door and the one leading outside). They make a terrible, loud noise 🔊, so every time someone opens or closes them at night—whether it's in your room or the next lodge (which are extremely close together)—you hear this extremely disturbing sound. If your neighbors aren’t careful about closing the doors slowly and quietly, you’re doomed! Again, about the noise: on our first night, the people in the room next to ours were talking. Not even particularly loudly, but since there is zero sound insulation, you can hear every word. It went on until 1 a.m., and then noise started again at 8 a.m. from the reception area (where people gather for breakfast or check-out) 🔊🔊🔊 The place is extremely small and narrow, so as I mentioned, any noise from one room echoes into the others. There's no privacy—sonically or otherwise. There are multiple lights in the room, but none of them are powerful. At night, without sunlight, you can’t see your belongings properly—you’ll need to use your flashlight 🔦... The breakfast 🥞 is only served between 8 and 10 a.m. (if I’m not mistaken), so if you want to sleep in a little, you’ll miss it. Great. 🤦 From morning to afternoon, the rooms are infested with millipedes 🐛. And to be clear—we're seasoned travelers in Asia. We've spent months in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and visited Indonesia multiple times, including our second time on Gili Air. We’ve never had this many issues with millipedes. Simple, effective solutions exist (like sealing floor-level corners), but the British owner didn’t seem to care. So be careful in the morning unless you want to wake up crushing them under your feet 🦶🐛. On top of that, the shower situation on the first day was a mess: We arrived on a hot afternoon, and only had hot water. By the evening, it switched to only cold water, and eventually no water at all.

    Property response:

The booking was made by this guys partner and his rude, aggressive, unreasonable behaiviour comes through clearly in this malicious review. He is a professional complainer. A dozen or so extremely minor issues listed that he exaggerated beyond belief. Despite this, we dealt reasonably and professionally with his minor issues and because we didn't give him a 100% refund he threatened to leave this review. 47 reviews so far for my new 3 months old business, most 10's, a few 9's, 8's and 7s. Think that speaks for itself. We have a quality budget offer here at Tricky Trees and loved by most guests. Gili air is a beautiful island with beautiful people working and visiting here, we would like to keep it that way. people who understand its a small island in a tropical climate. There are insects and bugs and if you really dont like these you should stick to colder climates. The electricity, water and wifi services are 99% great, but they do fail occasionally and again this is because the infrastructure on the island isn't the standard you get on the mainland. We dont want people like this upsetting our staff and im sure most other small accommodation businesses dont either, Beware business owners, you should think very carefully about offering this couple accommodation. He let his compatriots down when he stayed here and is not welcome back.

This was one of our favourite stays in over 6+ months of travelling. We couldn't recommend it enough! The staff are so friendly and couldn't do more for you, we organised a snorkelling tour through them and would highly recommend, we saw 7 turtles! The rooms are spacious and comfortable with an infrared device to catch mosquitos which works really well, i wasnt bitten once in 4 nights! The bathroom is also really unique and the shower worked great. There are of course the odd creep crawlie that gets in but that's part and parcel of island life so can't be avoided anywhere, nothing my partner couldn't get out with a piece of paper. The breakfasts were delicious, loved the omelette and the pancakes! We could have breakfast on our balcony which was also a really nice touch. You could also rent bikes really easily through them which we did. It's also 2 minutes walk from the sunset beach! We'd 100% recommend staying here, thanks for a lovely stay!

The location is great, beds were comfortable and the bungalows too. The staff was really sweet and arranged bikes for us.

We were in the room above the reception, sometimes there were a lot of people (not sure if all staff) coming in and out; they were all kind but sometimes a bit noisy with the guests in the evening and mornings with music and stuff. Also keep in mind the bathrooms are outside and we kept waking up from birds and bats flying in there in the middle of the night. There was also a mouse in the bathroom and later we saw it inside the bungalow and its fecees (also bat poop in the shower) as well. But that also comes with the islandvibes I guess. A table for the included breakfast outside and sidetables near the beds would be nice. But overall comfortable considering the price!!

We had an amazing stay at the Tricky Treehouse! Our host, Omi was incredibly kind and helpful throughout our visit. He went out of his way to ensure we were comfortable and even took us to the harbor, which was a lovely surprise. The breakfast pancakes were delicious, and the Arabic coffee was a special treat. The location was perfect, just a couple of minutes’ walk to the sunset beach. Additionally, Omi organized a snorkeling tour for us, which was super easy and fun. Even though we didn’t have bicycles, he would have arranged them for us if needed. Laundry service was available, and we didn’t have to worry about anything. The accommodation itself was simple but absolutely fine. If you’re looking for luxury, this might not be the place, but if you appreciate a cozy, authentic vibe, this is perfect. Each bungalow has a nice area to relax, and the breakfast area is great for chilling. We can’t recommend this place enough, especially for the fair price. Highly recommend!

Also Takim healed my sunburn with some local Aloe Vera he cut and applied on me, really kind of him. I would highly recommend this place

Very new facilities, nice looking, free water refills

Some people working there did not speak much English and when we needed help were at times a bit rude. There was no WiFi 3 out of the 4 days we stayed there and every time we asked about it it felt like we were annoying them, they were not proactive or informing us about anything. My friend seemed to have caught something of the bed (lice?) but I suppose that’s the risk of travel but yeah despite all this they didn’t offer any money back or seemed apologetic in any way. Laundry was meant to take a day but took 2 - again no communication we had to follow up about it twice, it was just those little things. Breakfast was confusing, sometimes just eggs with no bread or anything, other times fruit and a “main” like omelette or pancakes.

    Property response:

Hi Caroline, thanks for your feedback, always useful to know where we went wrong so we can grow and improve. Id like to respond. Staff - yes we have two new staff who are training, only started the day before you arrived. They are essentially housekeepers not reception staff so maybe there was confusion here for you about who to speak with, this should have been made clear when you checked in so my apologies for this and maybe this gave the impression of rudeness, I'm sure this wasn't intended but we will raise this with the staff. Our receptionists both have reasonable English. Wi-fi - our provider, Indihome Wi-fi which is one of the main providers on the island were slow to respond to our problem, it took them 3 days to come out and fix the problem which was a damaged connection not in our property but affecting us. Bed - we are a new property with new beds, sheets etc so I'm confident in saying there will be no lice, we have had no reports previously of this. However of course a tropical island has its insect inhabitants and these are hard to avoid on occasions. We do have infrared plug in devices that control these to some extent, especially for mosquitos but to be 100% sure of avoiding them i dont think Indonesia is the place to travel to. Laundry - usually if we take laundry for you in the morning its ready and returned the evening of the next day, however if there is bad weather this can take a little longer as they need to dry it. But yes the staff should have communicated with you so I will be dealing with this as a training issue. Breakfast - our breakfast offering is usually excellent so I"m confused why this happened, sounds like a lack of stock in the kitchen, I do apologize this happened and again will be looking into why. Once again thanks for your feedback it will really help us to give the best service we strive to give going forward

The bed is comfortable and I liked that the pillows are not too big like in other places. The Garden area is nice and peaceful. The sound of the mosque is quite far so you hear it much less than on the south side of the island. The staff was friendly and we had fun guitar sessions. The ac works well and the towels are nice and fluffy.

The main issue I had with this place and complicated my stay was the amount of gaps and holes in the structure in the main room and bathroom even though it was recently opened. Due to this, there are many insects crawling in from everywhere, I had ants (also in my bed), millipedes, spiders, mosquitos. I went to the supermarket to buy a plug against mosquitos which I recommend to do if you want to limit their presence. Therefore my recommendations is to seal the gaps and invest in good quality mosquito nets. This will improve the quality of the stay by a lot. however if you don't care about bugs then this will not disturb you.

    Property response:

sorry to hear that bugs disturbed your otherwise enjoyable stay with us Leah. We have considered mosquito nets but instead have decided to install a plug in infrared device in the rooms particularly to help with mosquitos but does work on other small flying creatures too. However, creepy crawlies and ants are pretty much part of most if not all island life in Indonesia and impossible to eradicate from living spaces, they get access to literally everywhere. Even my first floor bedroom in a concrete built villa. We would need a completely airtight building and even then 24 hour security watching for insects to make it only 99% free of bugs. But for prospective guests reading this, please don't think you have an army of creepy crawlies coming in, it's just the one or two, we are not infested and no different to any other accommodation on Gili Air. But thanks for your feedback, it helps us to appreciate our guests different needs experience and requirements and hopefully we get better as a result. Lovely having you stay with us and enjoying our vibe. 🙏
