How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThis is a full house where all 3 rooms are rented to guest. You have a living room, shared kitchen, dining table... Quite cheap also. Close to Banyuwangi speedboat harbor
Few food options in a short distance. There is a fountain with fish in it in the backyard, water runs 24/7 and is quite noisy. Basically its like sleeping in a bathroom with tap water running all night long. Just remove the fish and turn off the fountains, it doesnt make any sense ...

Verified reviewCheap price. Room was fairly big. About a 30 min walk into the centre of Banyuwangi. Initially staff were quite responsive and told us about Ijen tours we could do. There’s a communal fridge and small kitchen to use.
We didn’t interact that much with the staff. We had to message to get breakfast then the food was just left outside and only told us 10 mins later. We got a room with a private bathroom but it didn’t have hot water for the shower so we just ended up using the shared bathroom instead. No sinks in the bathrooms either. Sometimes noisy from the mosque.

Verified reviewMy favorite stay in Indonesia so far. Great value for the money! The room was basic but exceptionally clean, the whole atmosphere of the rooms and living area are great super friendly hosts aswell!
There wasn't something I disliked about this accommodation. Make sure to know whether mount ijen is open or not, when i went to banyuwangi mt ijen was closed due to earthquakes or something, nothing that has to do with this facility

Verified reviewVery friendly owner, nice place to stay for doing the Ijen tour. Some shops around and streetfood possible. Only tourists sleep in the house. The owner lives just right around the corner. Book the tour with the owner for 320.000pP. I had a live changing experience and it wouldn’t had been the same if I had done the hike just by myself.

Verified reviewthe AC worked? the staff meant well.
everything else. uncomfortable bed, stuffy interior that smells like mold, stinking old washroom. cockroaches.
Thank you for your rating. even though it's a bit outrageous where we are willing to help replace breakfast in the middle of the night and you lie. Thank You

Verified reviewVery helpful host Quick response Clean Good location
I got the wrong room 😪. This was my mistake. There are 3 rooms in the property. The other two both have air condition and windows. When looking at the property facilities it listed AC, so I assumed that my room has AC, but if you look at the room information it says clearly fan. Unfortunately I missed this. In addition this is the only room has no window 😪

Verified reviewThis is a good-value and well-located guesthouse, run by an owner who lives close by. It was very clean and organised with a good kitchen.
Due to no host, new travellers arrived late at night, and were unaware of others sleeping, so they were noisy for a while and very late. Of course, we should have asked them to be quieter but this is easy with hindsight. A sign or reminder could help with this!

Verified reviewMy father and I rented a double room with private bathroom and a double room with shared bathroom for 4 nights. We were expecting the family to be living in the house, but it was not the case. And since the third bedroom was not occupied, we had the house all to ourselves. There is AC in the bedrooms and a big fan in the living room. The beds were comfy. The house is in a quiet street with barely no traffic, but very close to the main road. As other comments said, there was no sink in the bathroom, but since we could use the kitchen sink, it was not a problem. The water for the shower was cold in the shared bathroom, but again, it was not a problem as the weather was hot anyway and the cold water felt good. Soap and a towel were provided The family was very friendly and helpful. They provided breakfast on request and for a small fee. They organized a tour to Ijen for us, and they drove us themselves and were our guides for trips to Baluran NP, Jagir waterfall and a beach where it was possible to snorkel.
There is a mosque nearby with very loud speakers on the street. It was not a problem for the sunset prayer, but being temporarily awoken at 5 in the morning was annoying. The toilets were western toilets, but non flushing. You have to use a small bucket of water to flush. Only a small plaid was provided on the bed, which could be a problem if two people have to share it.

Verified reviewFirst off, a massive thank you to the host and her family for helping us in every way they possibly could. They were all so nice and helpfull! The place itself was clean and comfortable, and the little kantine, where we could buy some snacks and cold drinks came in very handy when we arrived late in the afternoon and went for the Ijen tour the same night. The host arranged it for a really good price and we had the nicest tour guide. One day later, when we suddenly decided to leave Banyuwangi, the host and her husband were really committed to help us find a shared bus, even though it was already (too) late for that. They managed to get us a shared ride and we even got picked up at the homestay. Such wonderful people, and wish everyone can stay here, especially for the amazing price!

Verified reviewLovely hosts, they were accomodating for our early check in and we got a very nice breakfast at a very low cost. Distance to Banyuwangi center and beach was not as far as we thought, the place was clean and the hosts also helped us organize our travels to the ferry terminal. Really great place, especially considering the value for money!
Quite simple toilet/shower facilities with no sink in the bathroom, but this was only a minor inconvenience.
