Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe owner is a tyrant. The staff are lovely folk but you can see they're visibly stressed when he's around. I overheard him shouting down the phone over a really minor thing. And he has strange rules like the music has to stay on his (kinda depressing) playlist... But the worst thing is I heard from more than one female guest that he found their number on the booking system and messaged them things that made them feel unsafe. This is a problem that goes beyond the usual hostel stuff and this dude needs to take a long hard look at himself. Beware!
Waking up to a free tea in the pool is lovely. Great social area with beanbags and family dinner brings everyone together. One of the dorms is really nice, the other ok but a bit rundown (I stayed in both). Good shower pressure and generally clean.

GermanyThe rooms felt a bit damp, but the staff were constantly cleaning to mitigate any mold build up.
It was in a great location. Not right in the Center of town so away from all the traffic and noise, but a short walk down the road to where everything is. The pods were very cozy and large with enough space for a bed, wardrobe, and small luggage. The staff were absolutely lovely and so kind.

New ZealandNo water cooler was a big downside. Had to use so many plastic bottles. This would be a relatively inexpensive thing to offer and woild make such a big difference. There was lots of things broken in the bathroom that would be easy to fix. Didn’t see anyone use the pool during my stay.
Dinners were pretty yum and a good way to bring everyone together and meet new people. The rooms were okay, relatively quiet for a 20 person room. Staff were helpful.

United KingdomThe air con in the rooms isn’t on 24/7. It gets turned off at certain times throughout the day which can be an inconvenience. Also, at night, the A/C is left on 26 degrees which is far too high so it can get hot.
One of the most social hostels I’ve stayed in. Most of time, people who aren’t even staying at the hostel hang around there because it’s a great place to meet people! Everyone is very friendly the staff are very helpful and having free family dinner 6 nights a week is a major plus. Good location and comfy beds.

ItalyI don’t love the dorm because of the lightening and the beds feel like caves, also I had the bed upstairs which had tiny stairs and it was so hard to get my stuff up. I would have also preferred not to always have the music in the pool area.
I liked the free dinners and the bathrooms were really big and clean. It’s nice also that they have a social area with the pool table and sometimes they do yoga in the morning.

Waiwas is a chill social hostel, really easy to meet people! They offer free dinner every night which is definitely a plus! Even if the dorms are big you never feel there to many people, especially in the toilets/showers that are huge and really nice. Definitely would recommend!

AustraliaOnly recommendation to make this place better would be to partner with one of the local surf school companies for lessons and promote it, I think it would be a good way to connect travellers and get more happening around the hostel during the day.
I really enjoyed my stay at Waiwas as a solo traveller, I only planned to stay 4 days but stayed a week. Nice chill social vibe, if you want a party hostel it’s not the place for you but the free dinners in the evening were a great time to meet people, I met so many lovely people here!! The capsule beds give a lot of privacy and room for your bags. The staff, Aki, Zuc, sadam and irwan were amazing and always made me feel at home, by the second day they all knew my name and always greeted me and asked about my day. Compared to other hostels the location is pretty good, 10 min walk to all the main places in town.

AustraliaI rented a scooter with the hostel for 10 days to ride around the island. When I got back I was welcomed once again, very kind staff! The beds are comfortable however the sheets do easily come off and it’s very difficult to get to the top bunks. If you stay by the entrance, there are lots of mosquitoes at night too.
