How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewLocation was great for us as we were overnighting after climbing Croagh Patrick and the B&B was just 5 minutes up the road from there. Comfy bed, hot shower, tasty breakfast and a generous offer of scones to take with us for our onward journey.
Nothing to dislike really. The room was on the small side and the shower was a bit noisy when it was running but minor stuff overall.

Verified reviewThe family running this place are great and the breakfast was good. Beds were comfy as well. Good place for parking out front. The owner made a booking for us for dinner at the pub down the street.
Well our bedroom was a great set up it was very damp and moldy in there. Our clothes smelled like mildew when we left. A good dehumidifier would fix this right up.

Verified reviewWe were allowed to bring our dog which was great. We had tea and scones in the sitting room on arrival. There was plenty of room.to park and the view was beautiful. We were close to Murrisk and Westport for an evening out and places for dinner. Our host was very welcoming and cooked breakfast to order. All in all it was very cosy and welcoming.
Room was a little cramped but for 1 night this didn't matter.

Verified reviewThe accommodation was so clean, comfortable, and in a lovely, peaceful location. The beds were so comfortable. The hostess was so welcoming , kind, and friendly. The extended family that helped out were so professional, kind, and courteous. The food was amazing. Everything you could wish for was provided for breakfast, which was freshly cooked and piping hot. Tea and scones were available on arrival, and a sandwich or scone offered to takeaway away for lunch . We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and we had lovely walks in the surrounding areas. We would love to go back as it was the most relaxing holiday we had in a long time. Thank you, Margaret and family. Rosemary and David Farrell.
We liked everything ♥️.

Verified reviewMargaret, the host, was very warm and welcoming. She couldn't do enough for us. She even contacted us on our way down from climbing Croagh Patrick to find out how we were doing. When she discovered we were drowned wet, she allowed us back to the accommodation to change our clothes eventhough we had checked out that morning. We will be forever grateful for her kindness.

Verified reviewThe Breakfast was perfect for our needs.....there were options offered. The breakfast room was perfect for the guests and had a great view across the Bay. The shower was hot and welcome. The hospitality was superb, nothing was too much trouble.
There wasn't much that we didn't like, except the size of the room we had but we were offered another room for the second night.

The smell of old as you enter Cluttered and old decorations of family Very old decor with a musky old smell, not pleasant . Cluttered with personal items
Dear Annie I am extremely disappointed to read that your stay in my B&B fell below your expectations. We were completely unaware that you were not happy during your stay as you chose not to communicate any issues with us. I would like to clarify some issues you raised. Firstly here at Achill View B&B we advertise ourselves as and it is clear when you are making your booking that we are a traditional Irish working farmhouse. Our decor you described is authentic, traditional and what makes this house my family home. The “unpleasant smell” you mentioned is confusing. I believe that was the smell of the peat fire which we use to heat the house. Everyone that stays loves the smell and the warmth as you enter the house. You did not and that’s okay. Furthermore you claim you didn’t wish to eat at my b&b. This is entirely untrue. You certainly had no issues sitting down to eat my homemade scones and jam which I offer complementary to my guest. You did not hesitate to take me up on this offer. You informed me that the reason you were choosing not to eat breakfast is because you had to get up and leave early for a bus. Which reason is it Annie? Lastly I am taken back by the personal comments you made about me and my age. Frankly these remarks are rude and out of line. My age has no impact on the excellent service me and my family provide to each and every guest that stays here with me. You are more than welcome to review my b&b but not my age and “walking”. Once again if you would have made me aware of any of your issues I am certain we could have worked together to make you more comfortable during your stay. I can’t help thinking perhaps you should have just left and chose not to stay the night if you seemingly “couldn’t wait to leave”. Warmest regards, Margaret and family

Verified reviewThe breakfast was fantastic, a full Irish, cereal, brown bread, salmon, cheeses, home made scones. It was a feast. The location was perfect as my mam and I went to Climb Croagh Patrick and literally a few mins drive away. We will most be definitely be back but this time to stay for longer.
The only downside was we didn’t stay longer
