How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewLocation was great. Very walkable to the Cliffs trail and the pubs.
Would have liked more room instead of cramming in beds. Beds were ok. The doors creaked a bit, and with quiet time at 11 pm, it was a little hard to keep quiet :-)
Thank you, Gagan!

Verified reviewGreat location near the river and close to hotel Doolin, short walk from pubs and restaurants, bus stop. Room was cosy but adequate for one night with own ensuite. Hostess Adva very welcoming and helpful. Wonderful well-equipped kitchen with 3 cookers and 2 sinks!
All good, no complaints at all! Everyone was very friendly and interesting, and we met new people from different continents, all sharing food and conversation.

Verified reviewLocation was excellent - bars with live music in the evening were available across the street, and the picturesque Doolin center was very close on foot. The room was very good, the staff members kind. Three options of small breakfast were available at an extra cost. A quiet and very well managed property.
There were rules all over the place, we were struggling to read and follow all of them, but they must be helpful to place owners to run the facility as it was quite a lot of guests both in the building as well as outside in tents. Nevertheless, it never felt crowded.
Thank you!

Verified reviewLeon was the most generous host! We had car issues and he picked us up and brought us to his location. He then picked us up in town so I didn't have to walk back! I cannot say enough about their hospitality! The most amazing host ever! I feel indebted to he and his wife! They made what was a difficult situation an enjoyable one! I can't say enough about how wonderful they were! They made our trip a pleasurable one! Spent many many hours trying to accommodate us! The location was ideal! The breakfast was delightful! But best of all, were Leon and Gillian!
Thank you very much!

Verified reviewIt was located just by a small river which was nice. Also just a 2 min walk to the bus to Cliffs of Moher, Ennis, Galway. Only a 5-10 min walk to Fisherstreet. Nice cottage looking from outside. Had a small lounge area where guests can meet.
For us this was a bit too basic, but of course it depends on what you are after. The location is good but the interior felt a bit outdated and did not give us the welcoming feeling you can get in a guesthouse. We had 1 family delux and 1 family superior. The family delux had 1 double bed and 1 bunk bed and the superior had 1 single and 1 double. Both with its own shower and toilet. I'm not sure why it was called delux or superior because this was a normal guesthouse standard. Very basic. One of the rooms had a small wooden sofa for 1 adult or 2 small children plus a chair and a table. Also the host told us AFTER arrival that for our family of 4 adults it would have been enough with one of the rooms. So I asked why she did not contact me saying this BEFORE our arrival so I could have cancelled the other room. She said it was because I booked with Booking.com and not directly with her. I told her I put in 4 adults in my search in booking.com and then the 2 rooms came up so I thought that maybe the bunk beds were for children only, that was perhaps why I got 2 rooms. But she explained it was not the case. Also the bunk bed mattress were very thin. Wanted to checkout next morning at 07.45 but door to reception area was closed and opened first 08.00. Had to find one person in the kitchen who I left the room key too, from outside window. The luggage storage if you are too early, it is the open lounge area open for everyone. So not behind locked doors. We had a bit high expectations on this guesthouse but we were disappointed.
Dear guest, We are sorry you were disappointed with your stay. BEFORE booking rooms on Booking.com, one can see a description of the room (about the bathroom and how many beds and if the room is on the ground floor, etc.) and photos, so you could have seen the rooms' configuration before booking your stay. You indicated when booking that your group consisted of 4 adults; you didn't say they were your kids, which is why we didn't contact you. Couples often book larger rooms where double rooms are not available. That is the reason we saw no reason to contact you or question your booking. There is no reason to make a drama about an early check-in. You knew in advance of our reception opening time. You could have left the keys in the rooms and sent us an email, or not even that. Best wishes Adva, Manager
