How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Very outdated and not so clean structure. The bathroom faucet was missing a piece. The toilet seat very old and flimsy. None of us felt comfortable using the shower. Cobwebs everywhere especially in the common areas.

The money was actually withdrawn from the card on July 31, and check-in was on August 5! They did not compromise, they did not change the room. I wrote a corresponding review on Google, then the owner of the hotel wrote that this was not true and that I was misleading people! 🤬 You need to post real photos of not only the room, but also what's outside the window... and not close the blinds!!! If I had seen this in the photo, I would never have booked such a room!!! I am not a homeless person to have such an attitude!! (boiler room, barn, wall), I did not need a view of the ocean, but a view of the barn and garbage bins is also not good enough!!! I booked a room with one double bed, but the room had a double + single bed. The owner does not understand why there are complaints - like they wanted one bed, but we gave you two, like we did you a favor 🤬 - I don't need two beds, but one and space and at least a view of the garden, not a barn. The windows overlooked the boiler room, and at 22.45 the kitchen workers were knocking loudly and talking in Chinese.) I have real photos from the bank when the money was written off from my card! I am not misleading anyone, but they misled us by showing the room in the photo but with blinds on the windows..., now I understand what the catch is!!! Like you checked in and if you don't like it then no one will return your money. They don't care that you want to relax, they want to write off the main money from the card!!! And the guy who was at the reception on August 5, 2025, wrote down the card code for himself. - Now I am forced to check my card all the time and not trust hotels and people at all!!!
Dear Olena, Thank you for your review but I am afraid you do not say what actually happened and we are a bit disappointed. We did not CHARGE your card on July 31st. We PRE-AUTHORISED your card on July 31st so the transaction was only a pending transaction, not a completed transaction. This is in our terms and conditions. After your check in you told my colleague that you were not happy with the room because it did not have a sea view so please do not say you did not need a sea view room to make us look bad. You have booked a standard double room and unfortunately we did not have a sea view room available that evening. If I may humbly give you a suggestion for the future, if you want a specific room type you should reserve that or at least request it in advance. You booked a standard double room. We upgraded you to a standard triple room which has a double bed and a single bed and it is slightly larger than a standard double room. I do not understand how this is viewed as a bad thing? The room you were in does not overlook a barn or garbage bins so please do not mislead the readers. The hotel excellent,couldn't fault anything. The only negative is the elevated setting which involves a steep hill which might not suit everybody to walk up

It offered “water views” but the views were just meh. The room could also be cleaner and the bathrooms and room was rudimentary. There were NO ELEVATORS WORKING!!!! There looks to be a non functioning elevator!!!

The room you booked was a sea view room. You say in your review that it offered water views but the views were just meh... I do not fully understand what you mean. The room you were in was a spacious, bright, newly renovated and spotless room overloking Cork Harbour and Cobh Cathedral. We do not have an elevator however we assist all our guests with their luggage. Please do not mislead other readers in saying you saw a non functioning elevator when we do not have one, it is not fair. We wish you a bright, positive and happy day ahead and week.
