How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewWe are just back from our 5 night stay at this lovely property in dooagh on Achill island. The property was exactly as described when booking... We were a family group with a small dog and the property had everything we needed to make our stay very comfortable. 4 bedrooms , 2 upstairs and 2 downstairs..2 doubles and 2 singles.. 3 lovely bathrooms and showers..a lovely kitchen and sitting room... Fabulous views out over the Atlantic Ocean and less than 15 mins drive from both keel beach and for me the best beach in Ireland (Keem) Which just has to be seen to be believed. One of the highlights of our trip was seeing the free roaming sheep who just walk around everywhere.. on the roads.. In the gardens.. Up the hills... Just grazing and minding their own business but the kids loved to see them... The house is situated on a hillside overlooking the ocean about 2km from Keem bay ( it is an absolute must to visit this beach... Morning or evening it doesn't matter... Absolutely spectacular).. Our host Una was brilliant.. Although we didn't get to meet her she gave us very clear instructions about staying in the property and very good advice about various things to do and places to visit...I would really recommend to stay in this property if visiting Achill island.
I can't really say that I didn't like anything about the property.

The house was quite dirty, there was slime and scum all over the bathrooms and the bedrooms bed sheets had dust and marks all over them that felt grimy. There was no fresh towels when we arrived and we had to wait to the next day. The cleanliness in the kitchen was also sub par with marks and old food in fridge and cupboards. the front door came off it's hinges, a cupboard came off it's hinges and there were missing instructions for appliances which prevented us from cooking. We had to have a repair man to come to fix things (the door would hang off and was dangerously sticking out anytime we opened the main drawer) which disrupted our plans of going out and enjoying our holiday. The host was not responsiveness as someone else was monitoring messages as the host was hospital?

Verified reviewWe loved this house! So comfortable, modern, and clean. It was the perfect space to chill out in, with beautiful sea views. We loved exploring the island, and also looked forward to getting back to the house as it was a joy to spend time there. The beds were unbelievably comfortable, we all slept like babies. Perfect stay for our girls trip. Couldn’t recommend this place more!

The lack of hot water for the bedrooms upstairs. It was difficult to remember to put on the immersion.

Verified reviewProperty was clean and nice, located close to the best beach in Ireland. Great views from all rooms. The host kindly left us welcome pack which included bottle of wine, box of chocolate, drinks etc and a very nice handwritten card… lovely touch!
We noticed that there were no mirrors in the bedrooms and we couldn’t find a hairdryer😔 but our host Peadar said that bedrooms will be renovated this year so hopefully they will have mirrors very soon!

Verified reviewLocation was lovely, I know achill so I knew what to expect location wise, it's been newly renovated so that was nice. The Games room for the kids was a good idea.
The oven wasn't cleaned properly,some of the bulbs were working for example in one of the ensuites and an awful smell of dampness on my clothes from the wardrobe upstairs.Minor things but when paying what was paid you'd expect those kind of things to be sorted.
Thanks for the review and the critical feedback which I appreciate and have personally addressed. The house was empty for over a year before your arrival and so it was completely repainted, refurnished, and re-equipped. Every room received a deep clean twice and all fittings were re-oiled, all windows washed inside and out and all bathrooms scrubbed first by us and then the local cleaning team the day before your arrival. So it is very disappointing that the oven was not cleaned to standard, apologies for that. I've personally rectified this. The dehumidifier was on after the house was painted and the meter showed normal but after checking last week, there was a smell in that wardrobe which I have now rectified by installing a mobile dehumidifier in it. The whole outside of the house will be re-rendered in September to provide additional insulation before the winter storms arrive . I disconnected the living room ceiling spots as they are old halogen fittings and unnecessary: there are three other sets of modern lights in the living room, but I will change those ceiling fittings to LCD at the next opportunity. After checking all the bathrooms, there was one mirror bulb 'dead' (I've replace all mirror bulbs with more energy efficient fittings) but all main lights were working, the downstairs small bathroom light is a low wattage bulb so I replaced this to increase the light in the room. I'm sorry about the wardrobe and the cleaning (or lack thereof) of the oven. In the event that you decide to return, please let me know in advance, and I will discount the fee to make up for those issues you mentioned. I do hope you and your family enjoyed the house and your stay on the island. I'm glad you liked the idea of a games room so I've fitted more table, board and electronic games in it as a result of your review.
