How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. The location is quite far away from the centre and there is no breakfast available
The room was clean and practical, it was also quiet and I didn't hear the restaurant downstairs at all. The staff was friendly and helpful in pointing out the nearby cafes where I could have breakfast

The downside of the location means there is no parking just public over night car parking which in fairness was free. Accommodation has become very expensive in Ireland even in Sept.
Location v good in Salthill staff were v welcoming the place was v clean and comfortable.

Our backs were sore every day from the mattress. Everything else was perfect.
Excellent staff! Location is amazing and the restaurant was perfect.

I just loved it! Would gladly stay for a couple nights more 😁 the place is amazing, super cosy, with beautiful design and sparkly clean! And after leaving my stuff - because I arrived very early - the owners took my heavy suitcase directly to the room, so cute of them! Would definitely stay again!

Nothing to complain. For some other person the narrow and steep staircase may cause problems.
Nice, clean and cosy room for one traveller. Good location next to a bus stop and close to the beach. Good selection of Tea included.

Room quite small. No table or chair.
Room cleaned every day. Modern decor. Easy access to communal kettle. Great salthill location. Comfy and clean bed. Clean bathroom. Easy check in and check out.

We were above the kitchen so a little bit of noise but nothing to spoil our stay

Rooms are located above restaurant where I’ve tried to book a dinner (this was the reason to stay in this accommodation- to have dinner in the same place for a convenience). I’ve sent dinner booking request as a message on booking.com but when we arrived staff said they didn’t book us and they don’t read messages and I should have called them., but how I supposed to know that? That was very disappointing and it was hard to find a free table in Sunday evening in Salthill.
Very good, clean and nice tiny room, have everything you need. Like it very much. You also have complementary teas and water in the corridor.

Surpassed my expectations!
What a find! The single room at Black Cat was perfect for my stay in Galway. I was made most welcome on arrival, there's 24-hour free parking a few minutes walk away and the room was very comfortable with excellent facilities. The small 'bar' on the landing had a good selection of teas and 'real' coffee to make drinks. The restaurant downstairs is excellent for lunch or evening meals and, although it doesn't serve breakfast there's plenty of alternative places nearby.

I arrived in early but was unable to drop my bags for storage - the rooms are located above a restaurant that was closed and no one was on property.
Great location in Salthill area, rooms were clean and comfortable.

Bit expensive for what you get but seemed to be that everything in Galway is expensive so...
Passed through Galway for a night exploring the coast. Bed was comfortable and easy to find the spot above the restaurant. Food did look great BTW but didn't have time to eat there.
