How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Hi there. I'm sorry that you feel so let down, as I always strive to provide a quality service for my guests. Shoes only have to be removed when going upstairs, not when entering the property. Also, whoever rents the double bedroom has sole use of the main bathroom.

Verified reviewGreat location for someone like me who was using public transportation and wanted to hike to the megalithic sites. The residence was a hop, skip, and a jump from the bus stop. McDermotts is a great place to eat. The host was very kind. My bedroom with a private bathroom was very comfortable.

There is nothing we could find fault with, but could suggest the addition of fruit/cereal/yoghurt to the cooked breakfast menu.

Thank you for your comments, but I wish to point out that guests have full use of sitting room and kitchen at all times, in order to watch television and make tea/coffee etc. The rooms are not advertised as containing the above mentioned facilities. I had made fresh linen available for your convenience as you were staying ten days. You made two bookings with a gap of one or two nights in between, which you were NOT charged for. No kettle in room No tv in room. Double room- had to use main bathroom- host said hot water available for shower in morning only as it was on a pump etc so shared other onsuite shower as other family members in that room. Room altho clean extremely basic Break fast was pre made and kept warm in the oven No cereals/ juice Very small potion with no option on egg type given scrambled on 1st morning we then asked for fried following day which was accommodated but pre cooked and left in oven .. Personally eggs should be made to order . We felt awkward whilst eating breakfast as host sat at table with us so we couldn't have a personal chat .never known this in any places we have stayed Was offered use of kitchen for a drink and lounge but as it was the hosts personal space we declined Unsure if host has health issues as a loud barking type throat clearing noise with was heard through out the house and this put me off attending my breakfast. These issues have been read by us yesterday on other reviews. And this is an honest account of our stay . Sadly we won't be stopping again at this property in the future. This is basically a family home with two rooms let out and host using a 3rd room

To clarify, I asked you whether you'd prefer a shower in the morning or evening in the main bathroom, so that I could have enough water heated for your comfort. Damian.

Lack of the tv in the bedroom. House very quiet to the point it make us uncomfortable. Tv available to watch in the living room which is OK but we more wanted to have the time only for ourselfs. There was nk other noise in the house bar us and the host. All other noise was very noticeable. Lack of information regarding Internet. Had no connection to it throughout the stay and felt bit uncomfortable to ask about it. Not an Irish breakfast and vegititerian option very limited.
I'm sorry that you felt let down, but there is WiFi in my house which is available to all guests. It so happens that all guests approach me for the code when they arrive. I cannot understand how you would feel uncomfortable with quietness. How could all other noise in the house be very noticeable when you said there was no noise in the house bar you and the host?.

Verified reviewWe stayed for two nights and chose sleepy castlebaldwin, as it is ideally situated for tours in and around the sligo area by car. Damian is a fairly quiet host but always concerned for his guest's wellbeing. And when when you are treated to some home made Guinness Bread, you know you chose well.

However, as the advert states, there are two double bedrooms available (one being ensuite and the other with full use of the main bathroom), so it's likely that two sets of guests may be present at any time. You hadn't booked the ensuite. Fresh linen is always supplied for each guest. As explained on your arrival, hot water is always available.
