How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewHidden gem in a beautiful location, the property itself was clean and comfortable. Perfect for a family or small group who enjoy exploring places of natural beauty! Very close to Aherlow House hotel (we were at a wedding during our stay and this was a 5 minute drive). Beds were all comfortable and there was plenty of space to play and chill out. Great large dining table for those enjoying a big meal at home. The garden if fabulous! Shared with the main house, but we had it to ourselves and met the very friendly and helpful gardener who gave great advice on local spots to visit. The owner was in touch on day 1 and was easy to contact with any questions we had (with quick and helpful responses)
Not entirely private (no issues for us at all, but the property is very close to main house which I can imagine being strange when the owners are at home).

Verified reviewJust about everything. The only issue was the bedding being too hard for our liking. Otherwise a great home, location and very peaceful. Local walks were lovely, and close proximity to areas of interest.

Verified reviewGerry was a wonderful host and was readily available to help with whatever we needed! Loved the cozy and relaxing feel of the house, and the surrounding around in the Glen of Aherlow was so gorgeous!
It wasn’t made clear in the listing that the owners live in the house on the property. It wasn’t a problem but I would encourage you to list that in the booking page. Additionally the lack of a dryer or easy drying of clothes was a bit difficult for us. I would encourage you to provide an indoor drying rack. Thanks!
Had u read the listing it says there is no electric clothes dryer It also says I live in the property next door I suggest you read the listings more carefully in future Glad you enjoyed your stay

Verified reviewThis is a great place to stay for anyone interested in hiking or bicycling in the area. It was really comfortable, peaceful and quiet. The word "cosy" often means "small", but this house is spacious and well-appointed.
The plumbing and electrical fixtures are very European, which seem a little complicated to Americans.

Verified reviewLocated in the beautiful Glen oh Aherlow, this property was a haven in the busy travel itinerary. Homely with well stocked kitchen of utensils and some essentials like tea coffee and washing detergent.
Not a negative for us but anyone booking should realise this accommodation is country living eg water pressure may be less than in the cities.

Verified reviewThe house itself is very cosy and private. Gerry helped with the local taxi numbers and even called one of them to get an idea of fare from train station to his house, since we didnt have a car. You will need a car if you really want to explore the area. The house is in a beautiful valley and you can explore nature at best if you have your own transport.
Flush in both the bathrooms didn't work properly. Needed time to refill the flush tank which could take 10-15 minutes and flushing of at least 3-4 times. There was no dishwasher, so we spent some time washing dishes by hand. The fireplace in the pictures looked great...but was not functional (notice said under maintenance). There was no water in the shower of common bathroom (we didn't bother the host in the morning since it was early, not sure if there is any other way to make it function, but the water heater was similar to the one in Ensuite bathroom) There is no convenience store nearby (which the host had informed on booking) so you have to go to town which is 8-9 kms from house to get groceries if you are staying longer than 1 day. There is a restaurant 2kms away (Aherlow hotel), we didnt explore that.
Good morning, Had you read the informational info on the site it did not say there was a dishwasher, therefore there was none. The fire was available on request, I rang you and met you in a few occasions and you said nothing about these problems. I actually asked the lady who booked and she said everything was ok. Had you read the informational info and checked on google maps, you would have seen the convenience store was 2km distance. Prior to your arrival I informed you it was a remote area and the lady said it was ok -I recommended you hire a car but she also said none of the 4 of you had a license, that was pointed out to you and the need for transportation was definitely stressed. Sorry your stay was not the one you expected GMM
