How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewLovely hotel in a great location. Very comfortable bed and huge bathroom, recently upgraded. Food was excellent and the conservatory was a beautiful place to dine with outstanding views of the bay. Breakfast was very tasty with a good choice of options.
Some of the common areas were very tired looking with carpets that need replacing. It is a beautiful historical building and more could have been done with colour in the outside baskets.

Verified reviewLocation.
Property needs updating. Food when it eventually arrived was good. Room was small with oversized bed for floor area. It was pushed against the window, which meant climbing on the bed to open window or pull down blind.

Verified review1. Great location - very near the Garnish Island ferry & 1km from the town centre. 2. Great view of the bay from the window ( room 212 ). 3. The price for B&B was quite good given the prices these days for August. 4. Free car park ( not always the case these days) 5. Excellent dinner in the restaurant - Great view of the bay from the exterior/glass part of the restaurant. 6. Excellent full Irish breakfast. 7. Staff were very efficient & friendly. 8. Loved the lobby for just sitting around. 9. Great shower. 10. Great escalator / lift ( not always the case ! ). 11. Comfortable bed.
1. The room was smaller than I expected ( room 212 ). 2. There was no safe ( being picky here ). 3. The tea was quite cold as part of the breakfast ( was self catering but cold both mornings ). 4. The bar was more a mini restaurant but still very nice.

Decor a bit tired. If an interior designer got hold of this place it could be amazing.

Verified reviewStaff excellent could not do enough for you❤️ the bar man called ADRIAN even came to pick us up from a pub with HAD Irish music AND WE HAD ANF ELEDERLEY GRANDAD amazing! We had 3 generations as grandad. Came from there ! Wedding co ordanator could not do enough with advise of where to go also the breakfast lady
Irish music was on only once my mom used to take us there years ago and the Eccles was the place to go ! The hug of the town now they seem to focus on Weddings sad I wanted so real Urish music and musicians! Very inconvenient that we could now get a taxi t pi As it ment if we went out as a family someone could not drink as we had an elderly granddad with us who needed a can the rest of us could walk so that was disappointing! Thought a hotel with this reputation would have a driver available to go into town as otherwise the elder miss out , sad

Verified reviewThe location of the hotel was excellent. The staff were friendly and courteous,
The first room we were allocated was very small. The bed occupied most of the room, with very little space to sit and relax. Our travelling companions had a more spacious room although the price was exactly the same. Out of the two windows in the room, one was screwed shut! The other one only opened about 50mm. The en suite was so small I had to turn sideways to close the door. The restaurant only had two choices for dinner, both of which were quite pricey. The bar food choice was better, but the food wasn't great. Breakfast was fine, but I was amazed to see a surcharge of €5.00 per item for any change you wanted to make on the menu.

Verified reviewHistory, old area flair (such as the lobby as a social area) view from the restaurant at breakfast, hot food options at breakfast
Despite being spacious, our room (being the accessible access ground floor room) felt very underwhelming. The entire old area charm was lost for me this way. Additionally, a bathroom adjacent to our rooms entrance was prominently audible whenever in usage by a fellow hotel resident, such as people who were having drinks in the close by lobby. When me and my finance wanted to go to Bantry town and asked the front desk for support arranging the taxi, the young employee was dismissive and was appearing reluctant to offer us support. Otherwise front desk staff was always friendly.

Long walk up and down the length of the inn. But considering the age of the inn it is what I should have expected.
