How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewMichael COMPLETELY saved me— I checked in very late on a Saturday night having booked without realizing Mountain Widok was too far from my train station to get a taxi out of town early enough the next morning to catch my train to the airport. Michael not only helped me check in at that late hour, but also helped me call an early taxi from the next town over so I didn’t miss my train the next morning. AND he woke up early the next morning to make sure I got off okay. Total angel. I didn’t deserve him and I’ll always be grateful!
If you’re new to Ireland, be warned that Killorglin is a very small town and transportation in/out may be tricky outside of peak hours. But it’s a gorgeous place and you’ll love it.

Verified reviewLovely welcoming host. Easy to find with the directions given. Very spacious room with a fabulous view of the mountains. Very comfortable bed. Easy to pop into Killorglin for dinner, great recommendations. Fridge available to keep any drinks or food cold. Fruit and yogurt available for the morning if we wanted it. Very pleased with our stay.

Hi . Sorry you were unhappy with the amount of time I spent with you. You did arrive late in the evening though and we are busy people so generally once we have shown guests to their rooms and explained everything we leave guests alone to get on with their lives. Thank you for stating in the positives about the house that the room was clean but then why do you give 5 out of 10 for cleanliness? This puzzles me ? Verified reviewVery comfortable. Very large bedroom but not en suite which I knew about beforehand , but unusual nowadays. Communal areas were in mint condition.
The self catering limited kitchen facility was a communal affair squashed into the end of the corridor. Only suitable for tea & coffee. Bit tight for space if you wanted to make a sandwich or prepare something in the microwave. I had assumed that this facility would be available in each bedroom - certainly big enough, absolutely huge rooms. One guest parked badly & so not good for last person in ! Step immediately outside front door was sloped - should be level. Not good for older folk. If it is sloped for wheelchair use then the slope should be on a 2nd step. Ask for bedroom not directly under upstairs bathroom !

Certainly our premises is not dirty as is obvious from all our previous excellent reviews. Unfortunately booking.com allow anonymous reviews which shouldn't be the case. I suspect you are a disgruntled guest who broke the house rules which we then reported to booking. com and this is why you have now discided to write a misleading review

€150 Euro for a simple, basic room with poor bed linen is totally outrageous. If you are going to charge such a high price providing a basic room is not good enough. The owner wasn’t present and the lady in charge albeit very pleasant clearly was not an experienced host.
Hopefully potential guests will not take your review seriously. Firstly I can provide documented proof that you paid €135 for the room and not €150 as you stated, so this is a blatant lie. Also you stated in the positives about the room that it was clean and quiet yet you gave a score of 5 out of 10 for cleanliness. I'm 100 per cent sure the room was clean so this is difficult to understand. We don't mind some constructive criticism from guests but I can't tolerate people that lie about their experiences. I'm also very disappointed with booking.com as they have refused to remove your review even though you are obviously not telling the truth. If you want a better experience I would suggest booking 5 star hotels in Kerry in future on Saturday nights which will cost €300 to €400 per night.
