As you climb the winding road up toward the Laughing Seagull you can almost feel the quietness start to descend. Beara’s scenery has charm but also an almost medicinal quality to it. The air in your lungs certainly feels easier to breathe. And be prepared for another intake of breathe when you reach the cottage. Beautifully appointed—offering all the comforts of a well-designed home—The Laughing Seagull still eludes and maintains a deep connection to the surrounding nature and its hill top location. Designed with relaxation in mind, every detail has been carefully considered to create a peaceful, retreat-like atmosphere, allowing guests to truly unwind. What sets the Laughing Seagull apart is the thoughtful manner in which Hanna and Alan have shared their own love for the space with you. Their attention to detail and desire to make you feel at home, make you feel like a welcome guest rather than just a visitor. And that means you have nothing more to do than just be. Whether you’re enjoying the morning chorus with a cup of coffee, taking in the natural beauty that surrounds you, or simply resting in the cozy, inviting interiors, it’s easy to feel at peace here, to reconnect with yourself, nature, and the people you love. The best part? When it comes time to leave The Laughing Seagulls spoon full of goodness will have helped that West of Ireland medicine go down.

    Everything was absolutely perfect.

It was unlike anything we’ve experienced in a long time, and we travel quite often. Your house felt so welcoming as if it had been prepared with us in mind. Every detail was thoughtfully arranged, and we felt truly cared for.

Stunning beautiful cottage, tastefully finished with incredible views. Exceptionally well provided with treats, books and the like. All the rooms were lovely and warm and just what we were hoping for. The bed far too comfortable for it’s own good and the feather down quilt very toasty and light. A danger of spending the whole day in there snoozing. The owners were a delight to deal with, understanding and straight forward. The weather was pretty wild for our stay but that only made it better. Spent the afternoons nosey poking at all the boats coming and going. All in all. A perfect property.

    We didn't want to leave!

The cottage is absolutely beautiful. It is warm, cozy, amazing views and equipped with more than you could even want in the kitchen and bathroom. Communication with Hanna was smooth and she even went to the house prior to our late arrival and lit the fire for us so we'd arrive to a cozy warm house. And we got some homemade bread and jam and a lovely note as well. The village is only a few minutes away and has a Supervalue and Centra that are open late with everything you may want or need. If you're looking for an escape, for a weekend or a week, this cottage is the place to be. We'll definitely be back!

Everything was perfect. We could not fault it.

Stunning location. Exquisite views with really cosy outdoor seating area. This cottage was, by far, the nicest accommodation we have ever stayed in. The attention to detail was outstanding. Arriving with the heat and lights on and fire blazing with a delicious bottle of wine and cookies waiting for us really set the tone for the weekend. There were gorgeous pukka organic teas and coffee on offer among so many other things. The place was absolutely sparkling and we were impressed also with the option available to separate refuse, recycling and compost. The hosts were so organised and it was lovely to be able to arrive at the property and access it ourselves after a long drive without needing to organise to meet someone. The bed was so comfortable. The entire cottage was warm with every facility that you could ask for. All the appliances were of top quality. We even were offered a beautiful new travel cot for our newborn which was utterly luxurious, so much so that we intend to buy the same one ourselves! We will definitely return. It is only 5 minutes from Castletownbere and only 15 minutes from Dzogchen Beara meditation retreat which I attended.
