Location was beautiful and private, We love being greeted by the cows behind the fence, every morning they would come and say hello. The hosts were friendly and helpful. This house allowed us to feel like it was home and made our stay easier.

We had small children with us, so more blind cord holders, and the cleaning products put up high would be better. But that's it.

Beautiful private location but still convenient to local town. Lovely views. Thoughtful touches such as Irish interest books, some toys for visiting children, a jug of milk in the fridge, paintings and photographs relevant to the house/area. The house was clean and homely. Also, plenty of information on how to use the house, as well as local tourism locations. We enjoyed playing outside in the yard as a family.

The key box was difficult to open in the dark and the rain, when I arrived. Declan kindly came and opened it for me. For future guests, maybe a motion sensor light above the key box would be a good idea? It was probably foolish of me to come when the storm was due, but my reason for visiting the area was to see the Famine Museum and try the first stage of the Famine Walk. I didn't realize that the museum would remain closed from Friday to Monday inclusive, and I had to leave on Monday. The Walk begins in the grounds of the museum, and the gates were locked. But I can try again in summer!

As Storm Eowyn was due to hit Bunnamucka in the early hours of Friday morning, Declan and Margaret kindly allowed me to arrive and get settled in on Thursday evening - an extra night, free of charge! The house was centrally heated and there was also a turf fire burning in the stove when I arrived, very warm and welcoming. Declan told me there was a 2-ring gas stove in the back kitchen, with a gas bottle out the back that I could connect it to, in case of power cuts. Also left me a big powerful torch. Margaret and Declan came to check on me after the storm, and told me the roads had been cleared of fallen branches, but because of the power cuts, everything in Strokestown was closed, except for one supermarket, which has its own generator. I had brought food with me, but that was good to know. There were printed instructions on the wall explaining how to operate the stove, which was my only source of heat now that the electricity was not available, so I was very glad of that. It was also great to have the gas cooker, so I could have hot meals. There were a lot of very interesting books and leaflets to read, including the history of the place name, and framed paintings on the walls, (by Declan's mother/grandmother I think). I had brought books with me, (studying Herbalism) but had time to read them, too. I was delighted to look out on a fresh fall of snow with sparkling frost on top, on Saturday morning! Beautiful dawn sky, too. The area is really lovely.
