How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThe bedroom with its own bathroom was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The lodge is good for an overnight stay. The lodge is very central, short walking distance to the main shopping area and public transport. There is parking and there is also street parking. When we arrived after 6.00 p.m. there was a door code provided to us over the phone to open the door and once inside there was a key box inside the breakfast room for our room - all very straight forward. This is a budget styled, very old fashioned accommodation - one needs to be prepared for that.
The bathroom is large and clean but the shower just dribbles and there was no hot water. The outside unfortunately is a little neglected which is off putting when you arrive - but once you adjust and accept that this is budget accommodation it is fine and does what is needed!

Verified reviewLocation very central. Easily walkable town. Bed was comfortable. Water in shower hot. Sink and shower clean. Had a fridge in common area (but, not cleaned/old). A small dining area. Tea and instant coffee, cream and sugar, cups and kettle in room. Security systems (access) in place. No bugs, amaaazing. Couple of small flying gnats. No prob. Always a quick response from host.
Floor had not been swept or vacuumed, obviously, even with extra time before a.m. check-in. Large quantity of two kinds of other guests’ hair on bathroom floor and crackers/cheesies(?) beside bed on floor. Toilet needed more detail (cleaning under rim). Comforter was stained in many places, blood? Other bodily fluids? Its cover was clean. Noisy guests late and early, shared toilet for some included middle of night person noises and talking. Hand towels thin/cheap, towels never fully dry. No heat available in unit in summer. 4 hangars, asked for more, got five more cheap, hold no weight. No details of charges from Booking.com, only the paid total. Nightly rates? Taxes? Cleaning fees? Break it down, please? I had to pay for the night before I arrived, as it was a long flight and check-in was not until 3:00. Host still forgot, telling me 3:00 check-in. Eventually realized her mistake, apologized, told me to come right away. I did.

Regarding the issue of a stain on the quilt, we checked immediately — it was something the cleaning staff had unfortunately overlooked. We offered to replace it right away, but you said it wasn’t necessary and that simply using the duvet cover was fine. Afterwards, you mentioned that the room needed heating. We’re sorry, but since it is summer, the heating system is not turned on. As for towels, the policy is to hand the used ones to our staff so they can be exchanged for fresh ones. We explained this to you, but you never came to us for a change. If you have any concerns about the cleanliness of the room, please feel free to contact us at any time — our staff are always available. The room was shoddy, furniture was not bedroom furniture, there was no bathroom mirror so couldn’t have a shave. The installation of the bathroom sink was amateurish at the best and the wall beside the bed had damage which had been badly repaired.

Verified reviewWell... we are bewildered. It's not what we expected at all. Yes we tried to stay somewhere else but due to the events on in Dublin everywhere was sold out. Trying to check in.. there's no front desk or reception, so we were just left standing at the door until we were able to find a staff member who told us to ring a number. The room was subpar and thats being generous. We are looking into the certificate they had at the front door which started their maximum charges for each room. The most the could charge was €160 (which is already to much for the room) however we were charged nearly €300. This hostel is great for those literally needing somewhere to sleep for 1 night but is not suitable for longer stays. If you have children... don't bother staying here!

Price for this “average at best” lodging. We asked our hosts for recommendations for fish/chips dinner and they couldn’t help. Our tiny room located up creaky stairs was $289 euro for the night.

This property is in serious need of refurbishment.There is a musty smell,worn carpets,cheap and antiquated furnishings,poor soundproofing and ventilation.I was unable to take a shower because of the low water pressure.The room was very small,shower and toilet extremely cramped.As far as I am aware there was no breakfast option.I was given minimal information by the only member of staff that I encountered and had problems trying to get back into the house.Overall a very disappointing experience.

The room you booked does not have carpeted flooring; only a small portion of the hallway is carpeted, and those carpets are relatively new. All rooms are cleaned regularly, and there is no musty odor. Should there be any such odor, the room would not be made available for booking. Please note that you reserved a single room, and indeed the bathroom in a single room is smaller compared to that of a double room. We provide a simple complimentary breakfast.
