How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe stayed in the dog-friendly cabin which is clean, has everything you need and is very spacious. It gives a kind of cosy cabin in the woods vibe. The staff was friendly and helpful. The dog isn’t allowed in the main house for breakfast but that was no issue for us.
The shower doesn’t have a lot of pressure (my wife has long hair so this matters😉). It is about a 30min walk from the town centre.
Thank you so much for your lovely review! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay in the dog-friendly cabin and appreciated its cosy, spacious feel. It’s great to know you found everything you needed and felt well looked after by our team. We understand how important good water pressure can be — especially with long hair!Thank you for pointing this out to us. We have since had the plumber sort out the issue. Thank you also for pointing out the distance to town as well but you may have taken the long route it is usually 15 minutes max to walk into Cobh town — many guests enjoy the scenic walk, but we’re always happy to help arrange a taxi if needed. We hope you got home safely and We hope to welcome you (and your four-legged friend!) back again soon. SIncerely Deirdre & team

Verified reviewRobin Hill House is a beautiful place to stay with quaint charm and a lovely garden over looking the sea. It was a fantastic spot to watch magpies and enjoy the Irish weather. Ignoring Google maps, you can walk straight down to the shore and it's a beautiful walk into town. The owner of the house, Dierdre, is a delight! She had wonderful tips for the area and was very friendly whenever we saw her.
We found the organization to be a bit scattered. If we had a question about something, it was sometimes hard to find someone to ask. We felt like some of the finer details of our stay were lost. For example, they didn't give us more toilet paper when our room was serviced. Also, for a bed and breakfast, unless you paid extra, the breakfast was a little sparse.

Verified reviewRobin Hill Heritage House is a lovely property. However we were put in a shed near the car park because we had a dog. The shed was dump and we didn't have any water during our stay so we could not wash or use the toilet. Very frustrating. It would be fair to give us some of our money back.
If the dog owners have to be in a separate building from the rest of the guests it would be fair to provide them with a dry and comfortable place.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. However, we would like to clarify a few important details regarding your stay. Your original booking was for a room within the main house, where — for health, safety, cleanliness, and allergy reasons — we do not allow pets. As you arrived with a dog and without informing us in advance, we were unable to accommodate you in the room you booked. Fortunately, our dog-friendly cabin, which is entirely separate from the main house, was available — something that is not always guaranteed. Had it not been, we would have regrettably needed to cancel your stay. This pet-friendly cabin is a self-contained wooden structure with its own entrance, heating, kitchen, shower, and toilet, and includes access to the garden area where pets can enjoy the outdoors freely. Because the cabin had not been booked, it was not preheated prior to your arrival. Under normal circumstances, a member of staff would prepare it in advance, but given the last-minute change, this was not possible. Heaters are provided, and the cabin is designed to warm up quickly once in use. Regarding the temporary water outage — we sincerely apologise. This was due to an unexpected issue with the local County Council supply and, unfortunately, beyond our control. We explained this at the time and did our best to support all our guests while the matter was resolved. We genuinely did everything possible to ensure you had a place to stay, despite the last-minute change due to the presence of your pet. While we understand your frustration, we would kindly ask future guests to let us know in advance if they are bringing a dog so we can ensure the best possible experience for everyone. Thank you again for your feedback. Warm regards, Robin Hill House

Verified reviewIt was absolutely gorgeous and the people were so kind. I was incredibly comfortable. The food was amazing. The other guests were so nice. It was probably the best place I’ve ever stayed as far as Bed And Breakfasts go.
I can’t think of anything that I didn’t like about the property.

Verified reviewBooked accommodation last minute. Staff welcoming and friendly. Lovely area, quiet and peaceful. Close enough to walk into the centre of town. Good water pressure and hot shower.
It's just preference but the house is very cluttered with nick-knacks. Although the bedrooms are clean the window sills, windows and general corners that require cleaning are neglected.
