How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe spent two nights at Sli Na Mara in Galway and want to thank George and Bridie for their warm hospitality. They provided us with a comfortable room with a private bathroom, making our stay very pleasant. The B&B is conveniently located just a 10-minute walk from the city center, making it easy to explore Galway. The breakfast was excellent, perfectly attended and served, with a choice of several à la carte dishes, plus coffee, juices, and more. We were celebrating our 26th wedding anniversary, and they surprised us with a balloon in our room congratulating us—such a thoughtful touch that made our stay even more special. Highly recommended!
Lovely to read you enjoyed your stay. We wish you both many anniversaries to come. Regards Bridie

Verified reviewHad the best sleep of my life at Sli Na Mara! Bridie was an excellent host and made me feel instantly at home. She prepared a delicious breakfast for me slightly earlier than allowed to make sure I had enough time to make my ferry.

Verified reviewI was not 100% well when I arrived. Bridie was really kind and a great host. Due to my illness I was not able to fully walk around Galway the first night. I spent the majority of my time sleeping in the bed. The next morning I was feeling a bit better. Bridie was kind enough to let us stay parked at her place for a couple of hours so we could walk into town and take in the sights of Galway before we left. I appreciate her kindness and thoughtfulness.
Be kind to yourself. Thinking of you all.

Verified reviewOur stay was delightful. We ended up staying 2 nights. The room was clean & comfortable & the breakfast was delicious. The owners were very attentive & even drove us to one of the restaurants because it was raining. It is within walking distance to everything and the owner had great recommendations for restaurants & pubs.
Nothing stands out as a negative.
Thank you Rita. We hope you enjoyed the remainder of your trip around Ireland. Take Care Bridie

Verified reviewWonderful hostess who really made us feel welcome in her beautiful and cozy home. The room was spacious and fresh with a private bathroom. The Irish breakfast was good and generous with many kinds of bread, cold cuts and other goodies. Quiet location about 10 minutes walk from the city. We would love to come back here! / Maria and Stefan from Sweden
The only negative was that we would have liked two beds instead of one
Glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Regards George

Verified reviewLocation - in a quiet residential area but in short walking distance to restaurants, pubs and shops. Good night sleep with an open window. Lovely breakfast room. Parking.
Triple room rather smallish, not enough space to unpack bags. Narrow staircase, challenging, when you have bulky luggage. Private bathroom across the corridor. Watch out for water temperature changes when showering. No cotton linen.
Thank you Katrin. We hope you enjoyed your short stay with us. Hope the remainder is as enjoyable.

Verified reviewExcellent location in a quiet neighborhood, convenient to downtown Galway & the shoreline. The room I stayed in was very clean & had nice natural light. Great breakfast in a lovely dining/sitting room with a variety of hot & cold foods available. George & Bridie are attentive, friendly, & informative hosts. They also let guests leave cars parked a while longer after check-out -- a nice bonus to be able to explore a little more without having to navigate to public parking. Would stay again.
The bathroom is rather small (but is tidy & makes good use of the limited space).
Thank you for taking the time to review us. Glad to read you enjoyed your short stay in Galway and at Sli Na Mara.

Verified reviewLoved our experience! Bridie was super helpful with suggestions of places to eat, hear live music, etc. Very comfortable accommodation and close to everything! We liked being close to things but it was outside the mix so it was quiet-was about 10 minutes walk to Quay street.
Nothing. Was lovely.

Verified reviewFriendly host and in a great position to either walk into the Latin Quarter for dinner and down to the sea front at lunchtime
The shower did not work properly. The pressure of the water kept popping it off the upright ‘handle’ and the tap for hot/cold did not respond so it was stuck on scalding hot- so no showers for us! We told the host who was most apologetic - but that was of no help to us!
Oh Jane...what a shame your stay did not meet your expectations. It seems from your review that the shower issue was the most inconvenient part of your stay. We did apologize, which I was happy to read you did mention. Unfortunately like all accommodations across the world, issues arise. The shower head has since been replaced, and the mechanism for alternating the heating has been adjusted to a more suitable temperature.

Verified reviewThis a well-designed and well-established B and B in a comfortable neighborhood just outside central Galway. The host family was fantastic and welcoming, and Galway was a cute, well appointed town spread along the estuary. Directions to the property were well-communicated and accurate. We loved the stay and would happily have spent more than one night both in Galway generally and at Sli Na Mara. Breakfast was also wonderful and every interaction with our hosts was a delight. We rested well, and I don't think there is any single more important quality to any accommodation.
This is less an opportunity for improvement than a 'didn't like', but the property is definitely 'well-loved.' No points deducted, but it could use some refreshing to really heighten the stay. Again, nothing wrong, and it hasn't reached what I would call 'tired,' but the property - which is really well designed, BTW - seems to have seen better days.
Thank you for your review Mark. Happy to read you enjoyed your stay with us and your short stay around Galway.

Verified reviewI had a wonderful stay at this lovely bed and breakfast just a 10-minute walk from the heart of Galway. The location is perfect—close enough to enjoy the city’s vibrant atmosphere, but in a quieter area that’s ideal for relaxing. The owners were incredibly warm, welcoming, and attentive throughout my stay. They clearly take pride in their home and go out of their way to make guests feel comfortable. We were there for one morning and we enjoyed the breakfast - it was fresh and delicious with several options. The rooms were cozy, clean, and comfortable—just what I needed after a day of exploring. I highly recommend this B&B for anyone looking for a friendly, well-located place to stay in Galway.
Many thanks for your lovely review. It was a joy to meet you all recently. We hope you enjoyed the remainder of your trip around Ireland. Regards Thomson Family
