How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewAll of it was great. Hellen is an outstanding host, she is really kind, and never had I ever been received so cordially in any lodging. Also, if she ever recommends you a place to eat: Make sure you follow her instructions, she mastered this art. Heck, even her two lovely dogs gave us the warmest welcome! The house is very, very nice. It is clean, the beds are comfortable, the bathroom is quite modern, and it is less than 10 minutes away from the beautiful Lahinch Beach. If I were to visit the area again, no doubt I'd book here again. 10/10.
All of it was great! Maybe, if you have never driven in the rural roads of Ireland, it may be kind of scary, but rest assured that the roads are properly designed for you to not crash or anything, just don't drive too fast.

Verified reviewLovely location, great showers, pleasant host and 2 beautiful calm and very friendly dogs and one charming cat.
We found the bedside lighting a little too snazzy (versus cosy) for our taste (others might love it!) - it was a little unclear what facilities were open for us - we would have appreciated tea making facility and /or drinking water in rooms, and soap ifor the shower.

Verified reviewShower was great. The presentation and space was fantastic.
Didn’t give me a sense I was welcome. Not really anything apart from a bed which is fine but I expected more for the price, maybe my expectations are too high. A kettle with some coffee would have been amazing. No where to hang your towel. No bath mat. No soap or anything in the shower. The smells of the linen combined with the bore water from the taps was pretty funky. It just could have easily been so much better with a bit of love and care for a guest. I still enjoyed the stay.
Thank you for your feedback. I wanted to respond as I felt it was important to clarify a few points that you made regarding your stay & the available facilities. I went out to greet you on your arrival and enquired about your day of golfing and how your trip was going in general and what your plans were for the remainder of your trip. After showing you to your room I asked if there was anything you needed or to ask me and you said that you were ok, that you just wanted to chill out with a few glasses of wine. The bedroom you were staying in is well kitted out with more than a bed. It has 2 side lockers, a large dresser, a smart TV and an armchair. There are hooks on both the main bedroom and bathroom doors. There is hand soap in the bathroom which can be used in the shower if required.

Verified reviewNice modern clean bedroom and ensuite.
Brown water in taps slight rusty smell to it - so couldn’t drink it. Difficult to find despite the eircode. Not enough room to open out suitcases. No tea/coffee/water. provided if we wanted to self cater or even make a cup of tea. Booked through booking.com and was advertised as B&B (bed and breakfast) but all you get is a bed.
I appreciate the feedback Regina but felt it important to address the items you were unhappy with. I explained to you and your group about the water situation. As there had been a high amount of rain in the area this impacted the water colour and smell. I have a large water filtering system on the premises that does clean the water thoroughly, but unfortunately it will have little impact on the colour or the smell which is of iron not rust. Thankfully this only lasted 2 days but was completely out of my control. The furniture in the room could have easily been moved around, or removed, to accommodate your large suitcases, you only had to ask. It is important to check what is on offer when you are making a booking, ie the cost, amenities and the location so that it suits your requirements.

Verified reviewThe location and the host are all nice, the house is newly renovated and comfortable. She even helped deliver our lost toothbrush and thanks.
- Early checkin only - The host told us the sink was broken after our stay and asked us to pay a few hundred euros for repair. We fully trust the host and feel sorry about the sink. But we didn't do anything with it and the damage was not caused by us. We spent some time to think about possible reasons. We hypothesized It resulted from a pre-existing maintenance issue on the back of the bathroom door, a loose screw on the bathroom door hinge. Because we found the screw was on the sink and didn't know why, so we just put it back. Perhaps when someone/we closed the bathroom door, the loose screw caused the detachment/fall onto the sink, causing the damage. We were simply operating a fixture of the property as intended. This is a clear case of damage caused by a poorly maintained element of the property, which is not the guests' responsibility. Furthermore, the landlord has attempted to correlate the alleged sink damage to a "loud bang" sound. This correlation is false and misleading. As previously communicated, the loud bang sound she heard was caused by an accidental breakage of a piece of glassware in the bedroom, not the bathroom. We immediately informed her about this incident and offered to pay for the broken glassware, but she dismissed it. And we do appreciate her for the understanding. Anyway, I hope this to get resolved. We enjoyed the stay with Helen, but not the wrong claim we received.
