How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Nobody there on arrival. Contact number was invalid. Waited for response message. Advised where key was, initially couldn't open door, tried again, and it wasn't locked. Didn't feel comfortable in the house. Got back after a gig, packed up and drove back to Belfast.
Well, I never. It gets better with pampered adults! I think you should have booked the nearest 5star hotel but that would cost! Sorry not there to carry you into the house!!😀

Verified reviewI arrived Sunday evening and Madge, the owner suggested to go to the Shamrock bar where live music was being played every Sunday. That was a brilliant idea, the experience really recommendable. And you can easily walk there. Another nice place with live music on Tuesday nights is Bhillies… The shower worked fine. The bathroom was always clean (I stayed 4 nights/ 2 of those on my own). Also the internet was always working. The view from the room was exceptional!
Madge gave me detailed directions to her house, because Google maps would direct you to the wrong place. She was right there, but her own directions weren’t quite accurate either. When you pass the church (on the right) it is the second house on the left that you can actually SEE, when driving further up the hill… Anyway, inside the house: I’d seen the staircase to the upper floor on a photo before… It looks nice but it discouraged me completely from bringing my suitcase in from the car. This place doesn’t offer breakfast; probably because there is no place in the house let alone in the kitchen to prepare or to serve or to eat it. Madge told me on arrival that she’s moving house (it’s July ‘25) but I’m not sure how long that has been going on or how much longer. There was stuff everywhere in the house. On the floor, on chairs, on tables, on the kitchen counter, even on the stove. And two rooms (doors were wide open) were completely filled with stuff - you couldn’t walk in, if you wanted to… Well, at least the guest room was nearly empty, compared… The mattress might be fine for most, I myself didn’t sleep so well, feeling the springs.
Very surprised! Perhaps you need a trip to Specsavers while in Ireland? Most guests have no problem seeing the 4 houses. You certainly used the native Swiss cold precision for the review. You booked a room which you got for very little cost and an incredible view. You had the whole house to yourself for two nights. You had the use of the kitchen if you wished and it is a homely kitchen and many guests such as French etc love the character of the interesting house. There is muesli, Porridge flakes and Bean Flakes, coffee etc on kitchen table. I suggest you book into a characterless modern nursing-home type of accommodation the next time…with one bed, wardrobe and one armchair and thick net curtains! I thought you might have mentioned that the dog barked at you…imagine a dog barking in a bnb! A bit too humane for you?? Hope life continues to be so ‘perfect’ for you, although I am glad that the intellectual European visitors place beauty before arid perfection! 😁😁😁

Verified reviewA warm welcome from the delightful Madge was my introduction to this ‘home from home’, which was a great find, offering a comfortable bed, spotless facilities, hot shower, generous breakfast and a tremendous view across the islands to Tory. I’ll be back!

Alan, I thank you for your kind and gracious review, in view of the chaos, rather warlike conditions in which you were placed! The end result produced by Mihai is wonderful despite his artistic way of creating beauty from utter chaos and a sneaking off to the Corner Bar in Falcarragh! For your understanding, you are welcome to return for a few free nights anytime if the year…you call me at 073 942 33 556 rather than going through site. Thank you again for your patient approach. Madge.

Verified reviewMadge was really accommodating. I accidentally booked the wrong dates and she was very flexible. The house feels really cosy to me, lived-in. Never actually met Madge in person. She gave me the directions to let myself in. I had the house to myself, no other guests.
The location isn't great if you're traveling by public transport (which I was), but would be just fine by car! Not much to do in Falcarragh, but do go have a pint at the shamrock.

Verified reviewA beautifully decorated home with a stunning view of the beach, and even some sheep! Madge, the host, is very nice and responsive, even though she was not present due to Christmas, she was still very communicative and attentive to my needs as a guest. Absolutely beautiful place and felt very homely. Only issue was that the room was cold, despite having a small heater. Regardless I still recommend this place 100% if you're looking to stay in a well kept property with a helpful and kind host. Not to mention the quiet yet beautiful area.. thank you Madge!
Not a complaint, as it did not bother me that much that Madge wasn't there, due to it being over Christmas, however I would've loved to meet her!

Verified reviewDidn't have breakfast but there was a power outage.
The place had piles of items all over the place. Very cluttered as if someone was moving?
The guests arrived 4 hours after arranged time of arrival. The website should be read properly before booking. I do not provide breakfast, only tea, coffee and complementary cereal. They just booked a room at a very cheap rate. Most rooms are c 120E per night now. There was no clutter in their room which was clean and comfortable. I do not go into people’s houses and pass remarks on what does not concern me. I usually have sophisticated European tourists who find my books and décor interesting and not the usual bland and what I term nursing home characterless décor.
