How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified review,The apartment is beautiful, ample space for two couples. Wonderfully decorated. Great shower, comfy beds! The items left for our breakfasts were perfect. Plenty coffee and tea, milk, cheese, juice, jam, fruit, cereals, bread, overnight oats, also bars for a treat with our coffee. The place was perfect for us, we climbed croagh Patrick before we arrived on day 1 and were so delighted to arrive and shower. We met Lynda who recommended a couple of places to eat in the town and how right she was! We ate in the West both nights. I would highly recommend the Greenmount. Once you have a car it's the ideal place to unwind. A huge thank you to Lynda. We will definitely return.
...Leaving.

Verified reviewThe location is a little difficult to find. Using the car maps from the rental car was totally wrong but ok with the apple maps on the phone. The hosts are very nice and their home is just a little out of town so it is quiet and great place to stay. They even offered to take us to town so we wouldnt have to drive and could enjoy a drink then in town but we did not accept the offer. The neighbors are friendly if you go for a stroll. There is room to park your vehicle and they have a quaint little outside table abd chairs to enjoy the patio area. The beds were comfortable and clean. Very well taken care of. The bathroom had a standalone tub and was good.
Not a 5 star hotel but it is great for what we requiredand paid. The kitchen nook is only a counter with a few items and no sink, so to get water had to use the bathroom sink. Would be nice to have a water container and a place to put the used dishes like a little bucket at least on the counter. To get into the place walking through the bedroom a little odd but is fine and the kitchen/sitting ares with day bed is more like an oversized hallway. It is comfortable.

Verified reviewSpacious 2 double bedrooms and a large bathroom with kitchenette just a few minutes from centre of town.
All great. Two suggestions to make it even better: add a hairdryer and some hooks to hang up raincoats.

Verified reviewGreat spot very clean and well equipped, the breakfast provisions were lovely , and the bathroom was also well equipped . I loved that there was a top sheet , so not too hot to sleep.
The living room was not really a living room too small only 2 chairs , a bit hard with 4 adults ? A sofa and a small tv would solve the lack of social space.

Hi Wendy, Thank you so much for your kind words and for choosing to stay at The Greenmount. We're delighted to hear you had a good stay and would consider staying again — that's always lovely to hear. We really appreciate your feedback about the facilities. While we don’t currently offer a microwave, hobs, or a washing machine, please note we don’t advertise that we offer these — we completely understand that these amenities can be helpful for longer stays. Warm regards, Lynda

Verified reviewPlace was clean.
This was a deceptive booking. We booked through Booking.com and thought we were getting a hotel suite due to the description and photos. This is a converted garage located below someone's house, offering a view of their children's play area and the owner's cars. There are two small rooms and a hallway with chairs that don't fit properly. Also, the host left old bananas for us to eat. The hostess did not send directions until 1 hour before check-in. There is no signage to indicate the location of this property. It is not on Google maps. We got lost for about an hour looking for it. We only found it because a friend who lives in the area found it accidentally the week before we arrived. This is a terrible location. It is NOT near shops or restaurants. The photos they put on Booking.com completely misrepresent what they are renting. It is NOT near the water as the photos indicate. We stayed in many lovely places while in Ireland for a lot less money. This is a total ripoff and should be reported.
I’m disappointed to read your review, particularly as the issues you raised were explained clearly upon your arrival. When you arrived, you were immediately quite rude and complained about a lack of signage. I explained that full check-in details, including the Eircode and directions, had been sent through Booking.com well in advance. Unfortunately, your boyfriend – who made the booking – did not have access to his email or Booking.com account at the time. I also showed you that I had followed up by text to the phone number provided, but it turned out to be an old work number that you no longer had access to. These communication issues were entirely outside of my control and could have been avoided had the correct contact details been provided. In regard to your claim about misleading photos, I want to make it very clear that all images shown on our listing are accurate. The photos of Westport town are clearly labeled, and the description states the property is three kilometres from the town centre. We also include a photo of the on-site play area, which is freely available for guests with children to enjoy during their stay – something many of our family guests appreciate. It’s unfortunate that your review does not reflect the reality of the situation, which stemmed from your own outdated contact information and lack of access to the booking platform, rather than any failure on our part. Kind regards, Lynda

Verified review- Location
Breakfast - we booked with breakfast, to our understanding this includes preparation, the food itself and clean-up - food, dishes and cuttlery were provided, but we need to prepare ourselves - after the first breakfast and a message to the owner everything was refilled and cleaned - but for breakfast on the third day nothing was refilled nor cleaned - after contacting the owners they explained that it is a self-catering breakfast and refill is not supposed to happen each day and we are supposed to clean ourselves in the sink of the bathroom - we made clear that this was not what we booked - the owners reacted very well and friendly, refilled and cleaned dishes and cuttlery - but all in all it felt rather odd - we would not have booked this accomodation would we have known about the breakfast policy before Not spacious enough and not equipped to sit together with three (or even four) people in the evening although the appartment can sleep four adults
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review following your stay at The Greenmount. We’re always grateful for feedback, as it helps us improve and clarify our offerings for future guests. We’re sorry to hear that aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations, particularly regarding the breakfast and living arrangements. We would like to clarify that The Greenmount is a self-catering suite accommodation, NOT a hotel or B&B. This is outlined in our listing, along with photos that clearly show the setup — two bedrooms, without a shared living room area. Maybe in Germany the term “continental breakfast” may carry different expectations. However, in Ireland, a continental breakfast refers to a self-service selection of items such as cereals, breads, jams, juice, and milk, which is also in the photos. It does not include a prepared or served breakfast, nor do I advertise this. Similarly, the accommodation does not include daily cleaning or turndown service, which is standard in self-catering properties. Washing up after meals is expected, and we have provided a sink, dish soap, and a separate dish towel for your convenience. To date, we have never had a complaint regarding this setup — your feedback is the first of its kind. We always aim to communicate clearly and encourage future guests to review both the photos and full listing details carefully before booking to ensure it matches their expectations. We wish you all the best in your future travels. Warm regards, Lynda McNally The Greenmount
