How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewTown was very quiet Not much to do in the town itself Hotel was excellent and staff very friendly We were late getting down to the hotel So we didn't get to have dinner at the venue so we went into Limerick for food as was to late for bookings We done the killaloe cruise that was good but got wet not long after we set off
That there wasn't much to do in the town itself
Thank you Gary, for your kind words about the hotel and our friendly team members, we are delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. We are sorry to hear that you found the town quieter than expected. Killaloe and Ballina offer a more peaceful, scenic atmosphere, which many of our guests appreciate for relaxation. However, we do understand that some visitors may be looking for more to do. There are a number of lovely attractions and activities in the surrounding area, and our reception team would be more than happy to recommend options during your stay. It is a pity that you missed dinner in O'Brien's Bar and Restaurant with us, but we hope you enjoyed your meal in Limerick. We are also pleased you had the chance to experience the Killaloe River Cruise, even if the weather was not entirely on your side! We do hope to welcome you back to Killaloe Hotel and Spa again soon, with more time to explore both the hotel and the local area. Warm regards, Robert Echave, Front Office Associate.

Verified reviewGreat location and very good staff, the restaurant was good for both evening meal and breakfast.
The least disabled friendly hotel I’ve ever stayed in. In need of a refit, very old looking in the rooms and needs disabled access.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback Mark. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed our food in O'Brien's Bar and Restaurant, our beautiful location in Killaloe, and found our team members very warm, welcoming and friendly. As an older building, we take great care to maintain the charm and character that many of our guests appreciate. However, we understand that this can mean some areas feel dated, and we appreciate your honest comments regarding the need for refurbishment. Due to the age of the building, we are unfortunately not a fully accessible hotel, but we are committed to doing what we can to accommodate all guests comfortably. Your feedback is important as we continue to explore ways to improve accessibility where possible. We appreciate your insights and hope to welcome you back to Killaloe Hotel and Spa in the future. Warm regards, Robert Echave, Front Office Associate.

Ms Quigley was very arrogant and rude .I had booked a dog friendly room but she argued that I didn't.. I had proof of calls logged with the hotel To ensure it was dog friendly..She continued to be defensive and downright rude. She could do with learning some people skills.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed our beautiful location in Killaloe, the food in O'Brien's Bar and Restaurant, and the homely atmosphere of the hotel. However, we are very sorry to learn of your experience during check-in. We understand how frustrating this must have been and we sincerely apologise if you felt the interaction was not handled with the courtesy and professionalism you expected. To clarify, we have only three pet-friendly rooms on the property, and unfortunately, the Classic Double room that was booked is not one of these. If this was not clearly communicated during your phone conversation with us, we do apologise. Nevertheless, we did allow you to stay with your pet in the room booked. In such cases, we would normally advise guests to modify their booking to one of our designated pet-friendly rooms to ensure the best experience for both the guest and their pet. Please also note that following your stay, the room required a thorough deep clean in line with our hygiene standards for pet stays. We take great care to ensure all rooms are fresh and welcoming for every guest. We appreciate your feedback and will address this matter internally to improve communication and guest experience. We hope you will consider giving us another opportunity to welcome you back to Killaloe Hotel and Spa in the future. Warm regards, Robert Echave, Front Office Associate.

Verified reviewBreakfast was great.
We didn't have dinner in the restaurant, as we were in the area for a funeral. we were a bit disappointed that we had to sit in the foyer instead of the bar to have a drink at 10pm, as there was no free tables in the bar.
Thank you for your review Alan, and we are pleased to hear that you enjoyed breakfast in O'Brien's Bar and Restaurant during your stay. We are also delighted to hear see you found our team members to we friendly and welcoming, as well as the overall cleanliness of the hotel. We completely understand that your visit was under difficult circumstances, and we hope you found some comfort during your time with us. We are sorry to hear that you were unable to find a table in the bar at 10:00 PM. It can become quite busy at certain times, and we understand this may have been disappointing. Clothes and slippers found in room when we checked in , not much of an apology
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback Miriam. While we are very pleased to hear that you found our team members welcoming and enjoyed our beautiful location in Killaloe and breakfast service in O'Brien's Bar and Restaurant, we are truly sorry that your first impression of the room did not meet expectations. Finding personal items left behind is absolutely not the standard we strive for, and we sincerely apologise that this occurred. We also regret that the response you received did not reflect the seriousness of the issue. Please be assured that we have addressed this with our housekeeping team to ensure greater attention to detail in the future. We appreciate your honest comments and hope you will consider giving Killaloe Hotel and Spa another opportunity to provide the high standard of service and cleanliness we are known for.
