How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe location is excellent. Really close to all amenities and locations such as Johnnie foxes, bray and the Wicklow mountains. The cottage is situated in a very peaceful area. Use of the tennis court was a great addition. Communication from the hosts was very good and they were helpful when we had a question.
It needs a good deep clean! The bathrooms and bedding were clean but some areas were very grubby, such as the inside of the fridge and we have to scrub the oven pan and grill as it was so sticky. There were also coffee stains splashed up the stairs that we cleaned up ourselves. Lots of cobwebs on the windows too. The downstairs area is very small, there were 4 of us and we felt squashed in. Some of the furniture needs updates as cupboard doors were hanging off and no blinds on some windows.
Hi Lucy, Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a review and share your feedback. I’m really glad you enjoyed the peaceful location and the easy access to spots like Johnnie Fox’s, Bray, and the Wicklow Mountains, and that you got to enjoy the tennis court as well! I’m truly sorry the cleaning wasn’t up to standard for your stay. While we’ve already carried out a full deep clean since then, I’ll be following up directly with our cleaner to ensure this doesn’t happen again. You’re right that the downstairs is compact. We’re planning a renovation in early 2026 to open up the living space and add a third ensuite upstairs, which we’re excited about. Thanks again for your honesty, it helps us improve. All the best, Daniel

The kitchen and living room felt a little small compared to the rest of the property.
Hi Stephen, thanks for your review and feedback. Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay despite the weather and delayed ferry crossings. I wholeheartedly agree with you on the tight downstairs living room and kitchen area, it is something we are hoping to rectify this year through renovation. Kind regards, Daniel.

Thanks for your review Geok, and glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. There was not much we could do about the local water outage, but have since replaced the kitchen light switch. Kind regards, Daniel.

Verified reviewLovely quiet and tranquil setting behind secure gates in a semi-rural location yet with easy access to the local roads and nearby tram system that made it a great base for exploring Dublin and out into the Wicklow countryside. Three spacious and comfortable bedrooms.
Although The Nook sleeps six, it doesn’t easily accommodate that number together in the sitting room or around the dining table. Worked fine for 5 playing card games around the table (once we’d brought a garden chair in for the fifth person), but watching tv together wouldn’t have worked as comfy chairs only seat 3 in the sitting room, though other sitting areas for one of two exist elsewhere in the house. Kitchen fine for breakfast prep, but equipment more limited had we wanted to cook in the evenings, and for our stay hampered by there only being four forks (though I’m sure this will have been rectified by now). Tennis court was great, but when we where there quite algae covered and slippy with a dull bounce, so fine for family fun but would have been tricky if we’d been serious players. All in all, it worked for us, but could be trickier for groups of six wanting to eat and relax together.
Hi Simon, Thanks for your review and glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. Thanks as well for the constructive feedback. We have just had the tennis court professionally cleaned and treated for a better bounce. Also, we are aware of the limited downstairs living area and have plans to renovate in the near future. Until then, we only host a maximum of 5 guests. Kind regards, Daniel

Verified reviewGreat location as a touring base for Dublin and the surrounding areas. The property is in a very safe location, lovely garden with seating to soak up the sun. We did have one problem when we arrived but the speed with which this was addressed and corrected was astonishing and great credit to the hosts for their actions, they couldn’t have been more accommodating and helpful, Overall a great holiday and I would have no hesitation in returning to this property.
Everything was just fine

Verified reviewBeautiful surrounding area. Beds very comfortable.
Unfortunately this property did not spark joy for us. We were travelling with a young family (4yr old and a 10 month old). There was a smell of damp in the ground floor living area which made that space quite unpleasant to spend time in. The main bathroom upstairs emanated a sewage smell at night time which we found quite unpleasant.

Would benefit from a small fridge welcome pack to include small amounts of butter, bread, milk and bottled water (recommend 2) - tea and coffee was present in cupboards. Just to cater for late arrivals and following morning breakfast.
Hi Kenneth, Thanks for the kind words. Yes, a small welcome pack would help late arrivals so will keep this in mind. All the best, Daniel

Verified reviewBeautiful country house, very quiet, spotless, child-friendly and beautiful. Excellent beds.
As an accommodation for up to 6 people, kitchen could have had a bit more "gear" such as plates, cooking pans and such. Only that. Because kitchen technical appliances such as kettle, bread-rooster and dish-washer were plentiful. Further kitchen was spotless and functionable.
