How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewI had a spectacular stay at Joe’s Hostel as a solo traveler in the dormitory. The facilities were clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, making it a perfect choice for backpackers and solo adventurers. What truly stood out was the hospitality of the staff—they went above and beyond to make the experience memorable. I was especially impressed by their honesty and care when they returned a trouser I had misplaced. Such gestures reflect the warmth and trustworthiness of the place. Additionally, the view from the terrace is breathtaking as well.

From the moment I arrived, I felt a positive and friendly vibe all around the place. The atmosphere is so lively yet relaxed, making it really easy to meet new people and feel at home. The staff here are truly amazing – they’re not just helpful, but genuinely warm and welcoming. They always greet you with a smile and go out of their way to make sure you’re comfortable. Whether it’s giving local tips, arranging activities, or just having a friendly chat, they really make you feel like part of the Joey’s family. The common areas are great for chilling, working, or socialising with other travellers. Everything is kept clean and the vibe is perfect for backpackers and solo travellers alike. My bed was making a lot of sound and second there were no soap or body wash in washroom

Verified reviewThe staff is good but they try to provide a 1st high price to provide any service after negotiation you get some low on the same thing, which is market current price, if you rent scooty or bike after your day End remain petrol they get themselves to use on bottle, near by bed lump light not working on any bed.
The Rooftop cafe was not good The prices are too high & on that place AC is not in good condition The water flow on the floor & cousins on that place so unhygienic even the food table is also not clean and clear, staff is smoker's they always high, even at morning some time, and to reach the property you got straggle, coz 1st you take riksha,tampoo whatever you take from Rishikesh Train station or bus stand you take ride than they all stop, Kriya yog Ashram now the real struggle start to reach the place with you bag's you need to walk 2,3km something you need to walk with your bag's coz no public tampoo's or riksha's will allow to cross kriya ashram there is private scooty driver's provide you service to drop your place but they charge you so much amount of money 200,300 they charge you so high take advantage of the private scooty mafiya i call.

However, many of these services are managed by independent vendors outside our property, and unfortunately, we have no control over their rates. That said, we always encourage guests to negotiate or ask our staff for guidance to avoid overpaying. On the Ganga view — This particular property is not river-facing, and we try to communicate this clearly in our listings. However, we are located in close proximity to the Ganges and many key attractions of the city. Our Joey’s Ganga View property (on the other side of Rishikesh) offers direct views for those specifically looking for that experience. Café cleanliness and AC concerns — We’re sorry to hear that the rooftop café didn’t meet your expectations. Cleanliness and maintenance are top priorities, and your feedback has already been shared with our team to investigate and address. We’ll also look into the issues with the bed lights and any staff behavior that doesn’t align with our hostel culture and guest comfort. Reaching the property — We understand the final leg of the journey to our location can be a challenge due to local traffic restrictions near the ashram area. It’s a unique part of Tapovan, and while it allows for a peaceful environment, it can make access slightly less straightforward. We're working on improving signage and support for check-in guidance to make this easier for future guests. Once again, thank you for your feedback.
