Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe home is in a peaceful residential area, but close walking distance to shops and restaurants and the ferry dock. Jose and his family were really welcoming and friendly. He helped us organise lots of activities including a fantastic sunset kayak trip, small boat trip and houseboat stay, and he helped us navigate the ferry system. Breakfasts were super tasty with plenty of fresh fruit. The room was comfortable and had everything we needed and the balcony overlooking their lovely green garden was a great place to sit. Icing on the cake was that the family had just got an adorable new puppy!

United KingdomNext time I would pay a little more to stay in a bigger, better room inside the main house because the small budget room is so small and basic.
Joseph and his family made me feel so welcome and Joseph picked me up on his scooter when I got lost on arrival and he dropped me back to the bus stop when I was leaving. Joseph also gave me so much information about the back waters and arranged a short notice, amazing sunrise boat trip followed by a delicious home cooked breakfast. It was lovely to share these magical experiences with the other travellers I met staying there.

AustraliaOnly complaint would be its a bit far from town and the beach but that does mean its nice, quiet and peaceful. And you can walk for 15min to town and take a tuktuk to the beach for under 250rs
The staff were super friedly and the check in was super easy. They provided food which was super tasty and easy access to bottled water. Room was clean, comfy and simple. They stored my bag for a bit before i left.

United KingdomThe room I was in is very small. And also it was in the garden and there were quite a lot of insects - like mosquitos, and spider. But this is not their fault - I guess it’s just what the area is like and the time of year
Very nice homely property. Peaceful. Great food. You can book excursions through them which is useful. I enjoyed my stay here.

Irelandjose is fantastic and can help you organize any trip to the backwaters during your stay- he organised our motor boat trip as well as the houseboat which were both amazing and an absolutely must do. the accomodation is very clean- there can be some mosquitoes as you are surrounded by vegetation but it was not too much of a problem.

United KingdomWe loved our stay here. Jose is super helpful and knowledgeable about the local area - he helped us arrange a sunrise tours of the backwaters which we loved. The common areas are lovely to relax in, and we loved the home cooked keralan food we were served here. We’d definitely recommend kalappura!

CanadaI liked everything!
Jose and his staff are all excellent. They will help you with whatever you need. The breakfasts and dinners are plentiful and delicious. I recommend their dinners for traditional Keralan food. Jose makes visiting the backwater canals very easy, he offers a variety of activities at a reasonable price. We opted for a sunrise small boat, small channel trip and I highly recommend this one. Watching the Keralan people waking up, going about their morning routines and watching the sun rise was priceless (and it wasn't hot that time in the morning). We also did a couple hour tour in Jose's traditional boat, having breakfast aboard while cruising, this was also very enjoyable. The homestay is well located and you can easily walk to town as well. The room was dated but clean and plenty of hot water. In summary I highly recommend staying at Kalappura!

PolandI heared noises throught the wall from the room next to me.
This is exceptional place runned by very profesional family, which provide excellent multiple service. Apart from just homestay, you can order all day food (Kerala or Europe style), go for a backwater trip, make a loundry and probably ask for many more. I stayed in a small but pleasent room with everything I neded plus garden access.

Location was good, in the middle of the calm residential area, Walkable to main commercial area of the town and enjoyed food and getting snacks and drinks. Host family is really kind and professional, and I enjoyed talking with them about cultures of each other. My room was spacious and had spacious bathroom, large bed, and AC. In the common space there is a fridge, so I could keep my drinks there. I asked Keralan breakfast and which was really unique coconuts rice + soup and curry, and pineapple, Such local food is one of the advantage staying here. Also, Jose suggested to experience sunset cruise and morning cruise which is using house boat. Both of the cruise was amazing, and very memorable moment during the stay. This host family used to have a guest from many countries, so their communication in English and wide range of knowledge is wonderful.

JapanThis is the best homestay! Set down a quiet road along a small canal, it's a peaceful and beautiful setting away from all the hustle and bustle. Jose and his family were so welcoming and helpful. They cooked us dinner when we arrived late at night due to bus delays - it was delicious! Anything you need, they always want to help. Jose helped us arrange an incredible houseboat stay last minute and was so flexible and accommodating. In the homestay, the room was spotless and so spacious with plenty of storage and a mosquito net. Plug in mosquito repellent gave peace of mind and not a single bug bothered us all night. The bed was comfortable and we sleep well. Breakfast was lovely and you can bird watch on the balcony whilst sipping chai. If you are in Alleppey, you absolutely have to stay here!

United KingdomThere was nothing I didn't like.
Staff were friendly and efficient. No request was too much trouble. Breakfast and dinner were very good. The shared dining space was very sociable. Small country boat and houseboat trips were available, but there was no sales pressure at all. Those who took the trips came back with good reports.

The whole experience was great from start to finish, felt really well looked after and the food was great. The best part was that Jose was so helpful and knowledgeable on the backwater tours so made this whole booking process seamless. Visiting Alleppey was one of the highlights our entire trip in India!

Kalappura homestay was wonderful! Rooms are clean, excellent working shower, and AC worked well. Very friendly nabourhood susurounding the homestay. What really made this homestay great was how helpful Jose was with everything from recommendations for acccomadations on our trip to Munnar, Thekkady, and transportation also. We didn't reserve a backwater houseboat prior to coming. However, Jose was able to provide 2 unique trips for us last minute at a very reasonable price. The dinner at the homestay and breakfast served on the houseboat were very delicious meals that were also one of the highlights for us. Everything worked out great for our Kerella vacation and exceeded our expectations..
