Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsBeautiful weather, a stunning and unique setting, and delicious food – all while you can just sit back and take it all in. What more could you ask for? The staff were friendly, welcoming, and communicated clearly with us. We stayed for one night and thoroughly enjoyed our time. The room and bathroom were clean, and the bed was comfortable. We had amazing meals and we made a quick stop on the way to pick up some beers. We wanted for nothing. They also offered (for an extra fee) a ride on a smaller boat through the narrower canals, which we didn’t do, but it was fascinating to see how people live along the water. Tip: bring mosquito repellent – you’ll definitely need it!

Absolute luxury! What a fabulous experience this was, a huge houseboat to ourselves with three staff to look after us. The three piece suite, table and chairs and seating area round the side in the front allowed us to take our meals and/or just chill out watching the world go by. Great bird spotting opportunities. The food was just amazing and our room great too with aircon to keep us cool. We felt like celebrities, a truly wonderful experience. We would definitely recommend this.

United KingdomVery scenic cruise along the canals, taken away from the business and hustle and bustle into calmer areas. Served lovely food and the team are all very accommodating with needs. With air condition and fans in the rooms it’s very nice and the rooms are private for when you want to be alone.

United KingdomNothing it was wonderful. We thought we might see a bit more wildlife but overall was great. Just a note when you arrive it states Oscars cruises, which was slightly confusing but they own Thara's!
What a lovely two days we had on Thara's houseboat. Sano and the others really couldn't do enough, a big thank you from us! Joseph the chef produced the most incredible "keralicious" food and was very attentive to our needs. The bed is super comfortable, the boat kept very clean and was very relaxing enjoying the day to day sites of the backwaters. Thank you also to Ambily and Maya in the office helping with all the logistics and booking a very early taxi for us at 5.30am to Cochin airport.

United KingdomWe (two British female backpackers) were struggling to choose which houseboat to stay on, as there are so many options in Allepey - but we are so glad we found Thara’a houseboat! The size of the boat was perfect for the 4 of us onboard. It was a beautiful and comfortable stay, we were impressed by the cleanliness and design of the boat. The host, chef and captain were all super friendly and hospitable. We were grateful for the opportunity in the afternoon to go into a canoe and into the smaller canals - I would recommend paying the extra 500IR to do this. The food was also delicious. Super fresh and they accommodated our vegetarian and vegan requests!

United KingdomThis is a MUST in Kerala. With my husband and a couple of friends, we took a Traditional cruise and spent the night on the boat. It was an unforgettable experience. The landscape is breathtaking, and it's beautiful to see how the scenery changes as you navigate through the wide or narrow canals of the backwaters. We spent one night, but I would have loved to stay another day. In the evening, the boat docks in a place where only we were, creating a peaceful and excellent relaxing atmosphere. The boat was impeccable and comfortable, truly flawless. The food was exquisite, offering a wide variety for those who wanted to try the delights of Kerala cuisine or those who preferred something more international. The staff was very friendly and had excellent communication. Unforgettable!

The captain jise and cook reji were always on hand to offer what ever you required but at the same time never overbearing. The meals were utterly delicious and cooked fresh all day everyday by Jose. GermanyThe interior is a bit worn and could need some attention. Also, the mattress cover on the sun deck should be cleaned soon.
We had a wonderful stay on the houseboat. The crew of three – the captain, the assistant and the cook – was warm, professional and always attentive to our needs. They made us feel very well taken care of throughout the entire trip. A special mention goes to the cook, who truly made the experience unforgettable. He prepared three delicious meals a day, full of local flavors, and even took us to a fish market where we picked fresh fish that he later cooked to perfection on board. He was not only an excellent chef but also genuinely caring, always making sure we were happy and comfortable. We also loved being taken into quieter parts of the backwaters, far away from the busy routes – peaceful, scenic, and relaxing. The room itself was small (limited space on board) but enoguh to spend 1-2 nights. Equipped with a shower, toilet and AC. All in all, an amazing and authentic experience that we’d happily do again!

United KingdomWe loved everything about our stay on Thara’s boat. The only thing to note is that there is a part of the backwaters the bigger boats can’t get down and so you have the option to go on a little boat for an additional cost. I would have preferred this to be included in the overall cost however there was no pressure on us to take the smaller boat, it was our choice.
Staying on Thara’s houseboat was one of the highlights of our trip in India. The food was amazing on the boat and all home cooked by the chef who stays on board. The staff were so lovely, it really was such a relaxing and tranquil experience.

United KingdomI liked everything
Everything. Traditional houseboat with lovely rooms, comfortable beds, air conditioning, working shower, dining room and comfortable seating areas. Leisurely cruise down the river with some optional stops. The food cooked by the chef was incredible. I was very well catered for as a vegetarian, as were my meat eating boat mates. The crew were lovely and I felt very comfortable as a solo traveller.

United KingdomThe shower was a bit old but frankly - get over it, first world problems… the good massively outweighs any little niggles.
The boat was lovely felt authentic and was comfortable. The crew were exceptional, friendly, attentive, ready to please and just really nice. The captain was great, chatting about cricket- let me steer!! The cook worked so hard to produce really delicious food and plenty of it. Some snacks at tea time - no joke in that kitchen when it’s 35c! Overall the crew made a nice boat and setting really special, they’re the memories I’ll hold onto.

United KingdomThe air conditioning in the rooms could have been turned on a little earlier so we could freshen up, but that was only a very minor issue.
I’d highly recommend a trip on Thara’s Houseboat to anyone who is looking for a relaxing tour of the stunning Alleppey backwaters. The boat and the staff were lovely and so helpful, particularly the chef Rejikumar, who was a delight to speak with and whose cooking was fantastic (I’d love the recipe of the prawn roast!). We had a great time and were lucky to be paired with a really lovely couple.

United KingdomNot a dislike but check in was a little confusing as you get picked up by tuk tuk from a different location and taken to the boat due to the narrow paths.. Just a heads up!
Everything was great! Such a friendly welcoming, the room was lovely and the food was delicious! Such a peaceful trip on the backwaters and given time to have a wander if we wanted to. We shared with another couple but there was plenty of space for all to relax!

As a houseboat, this was a GREAT experience!! We got stuck in traffic going from Cochin to Alleppy and they were very flexible with coordinating a pick up time with us. The staff were all very kind, accommodating, and clearly experts at everything they did! It's a smaller houseboat on the water compared to some of the huge ones but I found this perfect and preferable. The views were amazing and the experience just feels very unique. The meals - wow - every meal was incredible and such a great culinary experience. When we docked for the night, we had time to walk around the little town. The rooms were houseboat rooms but we found them comfortable nonetheless. Another couple booked the other room and it was great to get to know them!

United KingdomNot much to dislike... after a few weeks backpacking we were hoping for a peaceful night away from roads and noisy cars and horns. The captain promised a quiet night. Unfortunately we didn't get one. We moored near a road and could hear horns and the temple across the water was playing loud music until late and started again early in morning.. oh well, that's India!
Beautiful boat inside and out. We were luck enough to have the boat to ourselves. Three crew on board including the chef and captain. The boat can't go on the small canals so we were up sold an hour trip on a small boat which was fun to do and interesting to see life going on. The boat headed South before turning back North and an overnight stop. The lunch and dinner were super as was the breakfast the following morning. We got up early to enjoy the sunrise before a short trip back to Alleppey.

United KingdomIt is worth noting that the payment for the boat is required in cash before starting the cruise which may create delays if anyone doesn't have enough cash with them. Otherwise any downsides are out of the control of the boat crew. Some of the waterways, like the rest of India are not as clean as might be expected and unfortunately the overnight electrical connection for the AC, which does tend to be a bit tenuous, failed one night, leading to a very hot experience.
The boat was a lovely traditional style boat but with good modern fittings as in the bed, bathroom with shower and dining facilities. Air conditioning is available overnight to allow good sleeping conditions and during the day there are comfortable seating etc for relaxing while cruising. The views were lovely with much bird life and local villagers going about their business. Short walker were also an option after mooring up in the late afternoon.
