How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThe room was big and clean. The hotel was very good located, quite close to the Taj Mahal, and breakfast was very complete.
Views from the room were not very good and, as in most of Indian hotels, the shower was no separated from the rest of the bathroom so it kept wet for a long time.

Verified reviewIt was clean with a nice hot shower. The staff were friendly. It was down a side street so was nice and quiet and away from the hustle and bustle. It was a short 15-20 minute walk to the Taj. They gave me bottled water and there was also tea and a kettle.

Verified reviewWalking distance to the Taj which is realistically why you’re coming here. Clean modern bedroom with a nice shower. Good tv, we watched a movie in bed with no issues. Room has no window despite the curtains in the photo. There was also no terrace which is mentioned on the listing.

Verified reviewWe spent two nights at Shivalayaa and I can only recommend it. The host was incredibly kind and welcoming. Only the room could be a little bit bigger for two people and a window would be nice. But nonetheless, very nice accomodation.

First I was impressed on the photos they posted, but when I arrived and saw it myself, I was surprised, it's not the same on what they show on the social media. Don't expect that much on this hotel. One thing I was upset is that they ask me to pay extra for my food, since we have a free breakfast, I ask one guy from the hotel if we can take the breakfast early since our transfer is at 6am and we need to leave the hotel at 5am but they couldn't arrange our request so I spoke to the guy who checked in us on the arrival and said yes we can have the dinner instead since they can't provide the breakfast.
Mr Gil You have been one of the guests we would not like to reccommed to anyone, you have been a Liar throughout, I Personally was in touch with you since beginning, you never hesitated in requesting me your demands, weather it was for an early checkin (which we gladly provided to you at 11 am). 0R EXPRESSING your dinner preferences, you wished to have special items for dinner which we arranged too. but you nevere forgot to discuss with me that you wanted to switch your dinner with the breakfast. had you epressed that with us we would have arranged for that also. But instead you chose to runaway without paying anything. you were travelling with a hindi speaking local guy who was clearly able to understand everything, there was no way you were not clear that dinner could not be substituted with Breakfast. you cant simply assume it. Moreover bevearges are nevere included in meals, you even did not pay for the softdrinks you ordered. Nowhere in the world breakfast is substiuted witn chicken tikka masala and Naan and Egg dishes and softdrinks. You showed your frustration here because we Passed our complain to BOOKING.COM, So you are trying to take revenge here. Verified reviewWe only stayed one night. The room was stylish and comfortable, as in the pictures. The AC and wifi worked well. Overall we had a nice stay and the staff was very nice (reception and breakfast).
The only problem was the noise from the street -- it might be different for other rooms, but ours (the one with balcony) has a direct connection to the street with very poor insulation. On normal nights it is probably fine, as there is not much circulation in this particular street at night, but when we were visiting there was a party nearby with very loud music (not the hotel's fault!)

Verified reviewThe location was quiet and about a km walk from the Taj. Close to shops and a nice restaurant. We had lunch at Shivalayaa which was very nice and breakfast was also good. The room was spacious and clean. Staff were helpful and they arranged a pickup from the airport before we arrived. Would definitely recommend.

Verified reviewGreat place to stay when you have plan to visit Taj Mahal (it’s just few minutes by walk). The breakfasts are very good, which is a great addition to the offer – truly amazing! The staff at the place are incredibly friendly and helpful! Owners and staff are very communicative and kind, always available to answer any questions. Verified reviewThe rooms are clean and comfortable and there was always hot water. The staff are friendly and helpful and the location was good. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful.
I think because of where our room was positioned we could hear some construction work during the night. Earplugs would fix that though.
