How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewLocation was good, in the heart of Mcleod Ganj. Rooms were spacious and the upgraded rooms are particularly nice. Beds very comfortable, so sleep good. Staff polite and helpful.
Corridor clenliness poor - windows kept open at night so lots of dead bugs around in the morning. Also, general dirtiness (e.g. plates from room service at night). Easy to fix by cleaning starting earlier. Also, quality of breakfast (choice and preparation), can be improved.

Verified reviewNice large comfortable rooms with opening in window with a screen. Best location in town. Full amenities and great lighting. Quiet, Internet TV, good supply of water, efficient room service. I ate two dinners in the restaurant, western style due to stomach issues and they were both excellent. Breakfast buffet is reasonable and adequate, no juices but decent fruit selection and eggs to order. Hot water but you have to wait 5 minutes.
Room advertised as valley view. If you could see through the trees you would have an Ok valley view. Only the 6th floor would have a valley view and that's mostly executive level. I paid extra to look at the trees across the street. I tried to extend and got mixed messages from the staff who were not overly helpful. They did procure me a good price on a taxi to the airport. It's not value for money due to lack of view but I would stay there again because it was a very safe, well tended hotel.

Verified reviewIt’s a normal guest house but the price of hotel is like a five star hotel. There was is no gym, breakfast is has limited options and mostly Indian dishes. Room and bathroom are like bed and breakfast types Betsy tiny.

While better than many if the places we stay in India, maintenance and repairs are (as always in India) lacking. The aircon didn't work and was beyond the capabilities of the staff to amend: door closers remained unadjusted so slamming doors provide an unwanted soundtrack to our stay and prevented sleeping longer then 30 minutes at a time; a leaking toilet tap created a permanently wet bathroom floor. A maintenance-issue reporting process would catch these issues...

Verified reviewMr Dheeran and his team was very accommodating and Mr Rana went the extra to fix my broken wheel on my bag. I will definitely recommend this hotel. The tea time complimentary biscuits are delicious. We felt very safe at the hotel and will definitely recommend solo traveller's.
The head office of Amritara response was very delayed and failed to inform the McLeod ganj hotel to arrange a pick up from the Dharamshala airport.

Unclean rooms and bathrooms. Stains all over in the rooms. We had booked the suites but they were just basic rooms with dirty drawers, curtains, walls and bathrooms. Hot water was also an issue. Had to run the tap for 5 to 10 minutes before hot water starts coming. The towels were stinky. Also it seems that there is a gutter outside the hotel and hence there is a perpetual stink.

We were initially allocated room at the lower floor which is called as Valley view, but does not offer any view of the valley. We were lucky enough to get an alternate room on 6th floor.

Very pathetic experience AC was not working despite complaining again & again. Exhaust was not working. Manager Aman and Dhananjay Are very shrewd and non cooperative. Couldn’t sleep. Old and obsolete towels were provided. For all this booking.com charged me Rs.25k for 2 nights. Very shameful. Please avoid this hotel.
