Lovely boutique guesthouse with character. It is more expensive than a similar place in small-town India but good value for money in a Tier 1 city. I loved the location as it is on a quite road in the middle of a leafy neighbourhood with plenty restaurants, cafes and shops (I would like to mention Petuker Boithok Khana for fantastic and reasonably priced Bengali food.) The Mandeville also offers a choice of four different breakfasts, so you won't get bored.

We booked three rooms for our group of six. They were all adjoining and we had the whole floor to ourselves. Absolutely loved the decor, it was modern with really nice and interesting touches of vintage Kolkata pieces. This is a small place, so if you prefer big hotels with every amenity, this isn’t for you, but we really appreciated the small boutique hotel. On a quiet street, around the corner from a nice walkable neighborhood. Good breakfast provided every day.

I wish there were proper disposal of trash each day. The guest shouldn’t have to worry about it especially when paying a certain price. But this wasn’t a dealbreaker. It was all very nice.

There was some intermittent sound, possibly of some motor or something. At night, that was li’l disturbing, though manageable. Through the day, if some food is available on order that will be good. You need not go out for lunch and snacks.

Only 2 negatives, one of which is easily resolved. The bathroom window pane needs frosted glass or a cover as next door building occupants have clear view through the bathroom. And secondly we could hear the next room guest's conversation and music. Otherwise a gem of a place to stay in. Would recommend without hesitation.

Breakfast is not served hot, especially toast, eggs and baked beans. The sausages were undercooked and cold. As more hotels and BnBs are moving towards being socially and environmentally responsible, it would be good to see Mandeville take steps to avoid plastic. Simple things like stopping the use of butter sachets and plastic water bottles would be an enormous contribution to Kokata and Planet Earth.

The entire place has been designed with care and a funky sprit. We very much enjoyed the little details in the paintings, antiques, and furniture. The Indian food in the breakfast menu was good.

The noise from the other rooms was loud. I could hear the TV shouting, people snoring, etc. Also the location is a little bit away from cafes and restaurants so not so central.

The breakfast was nice, the staff very friendly, and most of all the place is beautiful, with lovely furnishing, art, retro touches!
