How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewNice place out of the crowding, with really nice and big rooms. Common áreas are really agrable and food is amazing. The best in Dharamkot. Staff are so nice and helpful:)
You have to be fit to go up the stairs to this paradise

Verified reviewThe unforgettable views, the size and comfort of the room, always hot water in the shower, nice restaurant with many options inside the property. I especially want to mention Krishan the loveable and welcoming manager of the property. We had some great talks during my stay there, and he was also charming and kind enough to offer me a nice trip to see sunset from another property of the Unmad chain.
Location is about 10-15 minutes walk on a long trail to a higher area above the village center, with many steps to climb up to the lobby/restaurant area and to the room. It's quite a physical effort if you are not too fit :) As a solo woman traveller I did not like walking back to the hotel at the end of the day when it's already dark outside. With that said, the height is the reason you get such outstanding views over the village and valley, so it's a tradeoff... Cleaning - I spent 10 days in the place and no one came to clean my room or change sheets. When people had some meals on the balcony - leftovers and dirty plates could be left for a full day or even overnight without someone taking it
Thank you so much for the feedback. Usually, we ask our guests for cleaning of rooms or if the guests ask us to clean, we always clean their rooms and change everything. This is a standard procedure. However, we might have missed it and we're very sorry about it. Cleaning is our topmost priority so if you felt like there was a lack of cleanliness, we'll take it seriously and will discuss it with the team and work on it. Also, we're sorry for asking you and your friend to stop the music late at night but we keep our property silent and no loud music is allowed at night. And visitors aren't allowed beyond the cafe area into the rooms of our guests and that's a house rule to keep our Female Solo travelers safe. If you felt bad for that, we're sorry about that too. Thank you so much for all your support. Take Care!

Verified reviewEverything about our stay at The Unmad was incredible—it was truly a highlight of our trip and far exceeded our expectations. Staying here felt like a dream come true. The location is perfect for exploring Upper Dharamkot, Dharamkot, McLeod Ganj, and Dharamshala. You can easily walk to Gallu Waterfalls or Triund from the property. Getting around is simple—whether you prefer walking or taking inexpensive cabs and rickshaws. The nearby Tushita Meditation Centre, with its peaceful library, cozy cafés, and fantastic restaurants, is a must-visit. The Unmad itself offers amazing food and stands out for creating a truly memorable experience—not just a place to sleep. Their bakery/café has a warm, welcoming vibe, stunning views, and a cozy atmosphere that makes you want to linger. Highly recommend the cooking classes there! There are also opportunities for a head massage and foot massage as well as yoga classes which is fantastic too!

Verified reviewHost Krishna was really helpful with our stay and also helped us with our car, which was punctured. Overall, it was a pleasant experience there.
Staff kept pushing us during the checkout time, which made us feel uncomfortable, as they kept mentioning guest has arrived which was not the case and it was too early for anyone's checkin
Hi Misbah! Thanks for your feedback! The check-in time is 12:00 and the check-out time is 10:30. Even after asking you ten times, you checked-out at 11:30. It's not about early and late. It's about their duty to ask for the check-out at the right time. I'm sorry if you fail to understand that basic civics sense and the value of time. A little extra time is fine. But you guys left the premise at around 4 PM and that's too late for check-out. We did ask you to check-out and stay in our common area (in the cafe). The staff was only performing their duty and that too, with utmost respect. Krishan stood in the rain for almost 3 hours along with your driver to help you guys fix your flat tyre while making sure that you all were sitting comfortably in the cafe. In any case, apart from mistaking the professionalism of our staff as a pushy behaviour ; you've been really understanding throughout. Good luck for the future, take care and stay blessed.

Verified reviewBeautiful views, peaceful environment (a little bit outside of the main part of Dharamkot), and very friendly owners. I would stay here again and recommend it to others!
It was a little bit expensive compared to other options in the area, but it was worth it for me :)

Verified reviewAparna was an excellent host. The staff were courteous. The breakfast and dinners were healthy and tasty. The view from room was awesome. Good value for money.
There were 110 steps from road to our room. When it rains, walking through these stairs is like walking through waterfall. Our shoes got drenched completely. There were all kind of bugs (snails, crickets, flies, even leeches) on the property and some even in the room. They said our stay was paid when we were there. After we left they called to say it was not. They should do better than this.
Thanks Vishy for your feedback and the concern. Thank you for your words of appreciation and we'll try to do better. Also, I'll just clarify a few points here. Yes, there are multiple buildings in this premise. So, the building you chose had around 100 stairs. We're in the mountains (nature) and this is already monsoon so there are all kinds of bugs which are part of this exo-system (absolutely harmless and non-poisonous). We clean the premise and the rooms thoroughly before every check-ins but when guests come from outside and keep the doors open, the bugs might get inside. Guests can always call us and ask us to take the bugs out in such cases. Before and after the monsoon, there are no bugs in the area because of the altitude and the weather. About the payment issue, Booking.com doesn't have a payment gateway in India (in Europe and other countries it's paid via booking.com but not in India) and there is no way to charge the guests via this platform and that's why we charge from our end. You thought that it was paid via Booking.com but it wasn't. So, that was the miscommunication and thanks for understanding and paying via Bank Transfer. Thanks again for your support throughout your stay. We'll try our best to do better and when you'll visit next time, you'll be happier. Take care! Stay blessed! ❤️🙏

Verified reviewClean and good room with a fantastic view of the valley from the terrace. Keep in mind that the accommodation is located high up on the hillside, so it’s not easy to quickly go shopping or visit a restaurant outside. However, the on-site restaurant is super delicious and reasonably priced. From the accommodation, you can start the Triund trek directly. The owner is very friendly and helpful with any questions.
Nothing to complain.

Verified reviewComfortable and clean property. Good hot water. Located in a quiet area in upper Dharmakot - short walk downhill to the strip of cafes in Dharmkot and 10 minutes from Tushita, about 20-25 minutes walk down to Mcloed Ganj. Uphill walk on the way back but good exercise! Can start the trek to Triund from the property - the owner was very helpful in giving me a map. Enjoyed eating at the property, great choice of food for breakfast and dinner. All of the staff were kind and accommodating - I felt very safe as a solo female traveller. Highly recommend - I would stay again.
Very peaceful during the day, but could hear noise from town for a couple of hours in the evenings - as previous travellers have mentioned, there seemed to be a strict curfew and it was no problem with earplugs.
