How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Verified reviewEverything — the cottage, the ambience, the nature, the surroundings, the location, the lake view — everything was just perfect. The best part is, it’s pet-friendly, and for a solo female traveler it felt so safe. The staff were so nice, and their pet was super cute and friendly. I even had a massage session while the staff looked after my pet. Everyone was kind and welcoming. It’s such a beautiful stay — I’ll definitely come back for more days. At least 2 days are needed to truly enjoy the property. No need to go anywhere else, just stay in and soak in nature.

Verified reviewThis is a very beautiful property located in nature. We saw so much pretty flora and fauna, and the lake view is amazing. Breakfast is good, but the food options are a bit limited for dinner. The room was amazing and nicely decorated. The staff is friendly and approachable. I would 10/10 book again if in town.
It's a bit away from the main Varkala town, which I already knew and was okay with, so guests should only book this property if they don't plan to visit the popular areas. Also, there are a few dogs and one cat at the property, and it would be great if the staff would take care of them a bit better. The cat in particular, was very skinny. I would request the staff to look into this.

Verified reviewThe location is amazing. Such a calm and serene lake side property. Perfect place to unwind. Ayurveda treatment was really good, which we opted after seeing the facilities there. Rooms are spacious and neat. The highlight of the stay was doing yoga early morning by the lake side. It was such a surreal experience.

The doctor and staff were highly professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely dedicated to providing the best care, not just going through the motions. Every aspect of the treatment felt authentic and effective. I left feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, and I can’t wait to visit again soon!
Didn't like the boat ride provided from there. But when I enquired, there's another boat service 13km away, through the lagoons and all, so don't go for the ride provided by the resort.

Exposed live cables and wires along walk way posses risks to guests. No safety warning board for snakes, i have seen multiple snakes among then 1was poisonous(high risk). The lake view room i booked doesnt have hair drier, telephone to contact reception, broken kettle and no bed side sockets for charging phone, absence of dressing table, mini fridge, tv unit, which are basic requirements for a standard facility.

Verified reviewWe had a mixed experience in Vishram village. The ambience is extremely good due to the nature. Anyone who needs a peaceful and serene stay can really enjoy.
The location is 4-5 kms far from the Varkala cliff. The resort people arranged an auto that charged Rs. 500 for to and for ride. They had informed us that they have opened the resort just after renovation so maybe everything was just average. Food was good. Since not many people were there on the first day they asked us what to make. But 2nd day they didn't ask since many people were there and its not practical to ask everyone. But the problem was that we had to wait for more than half an hour for every meal. Its just like a home arrangement but not planned. The room facilities were just basic with no TV. Hope they will upgrade everything to match the value of the money. Another issue was we had to ask them continuously for the receipt. They took one week to send the bills completely.

The pictures are misleading. The value for money wasn’t there. If we had paid 2500 rupiah per night then it would be fine, but for 8000 you expect more. The food was not very good - for example the fruit in the morning tasted of onions (presumably they used the same chopping board) and even though we told them about this it didn’t change. Most of the food made you shrug your shoulders as nothing memorable. The whole place was scattered with dead leaves which made it look untidy. The yoga studio was covered in dust and debris and was not inviting. There was only one yoga session in 5 days there. We thought we would be getting a replenishing retreat with lots of yoga and great food but it didn’t deliver what the pictures allude to. I think with a bit of work this place could get there though, the foundation is all there.

Verified reviewThe location is magical. It is very offbeat. People might find it difficult to find but it's amazing. Located right by the Backwaters and you can just chill there for hours.
The property is new so they are still working on things. The food is something that need to work upon. The options are less and the taste isn't as good as one would expect from such properties.

None of the services listed were available. No yoga, treatments, I had to basically force receptionist to send the therapist as she was not based at the retreat. Menu was not really what was promised. Pretty much ONE vegan option. Menu was every day the same and did not offer much variety. Despite promises of all cards accepted, card terminal was not working and I had to go on the back of speeding bike with receptionist to remote market to pay using 3rd party terminal. Not ideal when you are exhausted after long trip. No hot water in the shower. Some women were burning rubbish in a big fire short distance from my cabin and everything was full of smoke, despite asking receptionist to have this sorted - surely this is not acceptable? At the end they tried to charge me twice as much as I should pay for meal (I kept asking for two days for total and when I was in a hurry to catch the train, receptionist was not available to make payment, I had to leave money with tuktuk driver. I would also appreciate allowing guests more personal space rather than constant calls on whatsapp. If I need anything, I will ask. So if you are looking for escape from busy life, and recovery time, maybe not the best choice. Also slightly too remote.

Verified reviewI was blessed that I ended up here. It is under new ownership and management. Not everything ready but everything has solution. I am female solo traveller. Felt completely comfortable and safe. Have a great single room with nice bathroom. Perfect for 1 person with simply divine view. When there was no yoga so they arranged for me 1-1 sessions on the dock. The food was delicious, authentic Keralan food. The staff were fantastic especially the manager Ravi. Very good at customer relations. The Ayurvedic massage was so superb I had another in my short 2 night trip. Next time I will take it to do much longer as the avyuredic treatments need a week. The therapist was so dedicated that in just2 treatments I felt a change. The location is sublime. So peaceful. So quiet. So pretty. Highly recommend. The yoga Shala was under short renovation but it looks to be a beautiful space to do yoga. A short 30 min auto tuk tuk to varkala beach and then back to serenity.

Verified reviewNice property with a wonderfull garden full of interesting plants and animals with great view and access on the nearby lake. Kayaking activities included with no extra price. Kind staff always available for suggestions.
The hotel is not near the varkala cliff or all the main beaches/restaurants, altough they are easily reachable through a tuk tuk ride (250rs each way). Food service to be improved due to long waiting time.
