An Unforgettable Houseboat Experience! Our stay on the houseboat was nothing short of magical. The boat itself was luxurious, well-maintained, and equipped with modern amenities, making our stay incredibly comfortable. The crew were warm, friendly, and attentive, always ensuring our needs were met with a smile. A special highlight was stopping for a relaxing massage and buying fresh fish, which was later prepared for us onboard—absolutely delicious! Cruising through the serene backwaters offered breathtaking views and a peaceful atmosphere that was perfect for unwinding. The sunset cruises were especially memorable and relaxing. We wholeheartedly recommend this houseboat experience to anyone looking for comfort, great service, and a deep connection with nature. It's the perfect getaway to relax and recharge. Will definitely be back!

Everything - the boat was amazing, spotlessly clean, all toiletries provided. The staff Bennett, Damien and the wonderful Captain were there for our every need, totally spoiled, provided everything we required. The food was outstanding. We stopped at the fish market and purchased prawns for Dinner. Damien is an excellent cook and all the food, lunch, dinner and breakfast - amazing! The accommodation - more than we expected - like a top class Hotel! A great big thankyou to the Captain, Damien and Bennett! Would highly recommend Why Not Houseboat!

    Liked everything.

Our houseboat trip was the highlight of our holiday in Kerala. I would recommend a two night houseboat stay to anyone planning their visit and specifically the ‘Why Not’ houseboats. We were fortunate enough to get an entire houseboat to ourselves (1 couple) and spent two nights aboard, cruising along the backwaters. The staff aboard were amazing - all very friendly, accommodating and respectful of our privacy, and spoke English to a good level. The room was clean, well equipped and overnight AC was available in the rooms as well for a comfortable nights sleep. Compared to other houseboats I saw on the backwaters, ‘Why Not’ is unique in the upper decking area it provides with a focus on lots of comfortable seating, open sides for a comfortable breeze to pass through and two lounging areas that are open to the sky - ideal for sunbathing, reading, relaxing etc. Majority of other houseboats I saw did not have the same facilities (closed, covered areas with tables/chairs). We did a round trip along quiet routes staying at different locations along the backwaters each night, eventually returning to the starting point on the morning of checkout. Amazing way to see Kerala backwaters! The food was standout. A literal feast of local cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner, prepared on board and served to you on the upper decking whilst cruising along. We had some of the best seafood of the trip on the houseboat. Thank you for a wonderful, relaxing stay!

The water for bathroom was salty. Felt a bit awkward.

Absolutely fantastic stay - staff were brilliant, food was delicious (and very accommodating for the vegetarians), option of early morning boat ride down the backwaters and massage were well worth it - staff went out of there way to make it a trip to remember for all of us, couldn’t recommend highly enough!

    It was all brilliant

The boat trip on whynot houseboat was an immense experience. The entire atmosphere inside the house boat was wonderful. From the moment  we start the cruise the staffs were friendly and very loyal to us. The food they preaperd for us had less spicy than we expected and also there were plethora of dishes had been servered on the table. The boat was well maintained and clean, I don't think so whether I can found an another boat with this much facilities and services. They were using  filtered water for all the purpose on their portfolio of boats. Whynot houseboat takes us to the mesmerizing scenic views which can be experienced on the backwaters. The boat Manager dealings and the services provided by the staff's were do nice. The boat sail through the alleppey backwater On a silent atmosphere without any rush and we cannot even hear any noise came our from the engine. On Recapitulating I would suggest "Why?Not" tourists who is looking for a houseboat in alleppey. Thank you Vineeth & Teams for your  serving the best experience in Alleppey.

We booked the boat for 1 night trip. But when we arrived the manager of the boat suggested 2 night trip And we decided to go 2 night trip.it was the right decision as on the 2nd day they took us to most beautiful places on the backwaters through smaller canals and silent places. The view is amazing the food was excellent in India all the hotel's provide spicy food but in the houseboat they provide very less spicy food .The crew was very helpful Highly recommended for 2 night trip

    The boat was very nice

There was no hot water the room was not serviced the captain went to see a friend the first night and we didn’t leave till 10.30 the next day we did not go on any excursions the whole trip so never got off the boat there was no refrigerator on the boat just an ice box so in that heat by the second day the ice I got for my partner’s drinks was all melted and I ended up with a stomach bug

The boat and crew were great. The cook excellent

The area is overcrowded with too many boats emitting diesel emissions The boats travel in a long line..almost a traffic jam and the air stinks of dangerous diesel particulate I would not recommend this trip but the boat itself was good.

Lots of spacious seating areas. We are on ‘Why Not II’ which has three double bedrooms. Myself and my daughter had one and there was also a solo traveller with us. Even if all three rooms were taken there is plenty of space without getting in each others way. Really liked the top deck where all meals were served as well as two open air day beds the width of the boat ie space easily for four each end. Some boats are enclosed and we wouldn’t have liked that. The staff were amazing! (Sorry for the spelling but…) we had Cochimon as chef, Vijay captain and Babu to help with all our needs. The food was AMAZING! And so much of it. We bought fresh prawns from the riverside and whilst it was fun and Cochimon cooked them beautifully, it wasn’t really necessary due to the quantity of food supplied. We stayed for two nights and I’m so glad we did. We went further into the backwaters where the river is so much quieter and you feel you’re getting a more authentic experience. The main areas I presume one nights sailing would get to is very busy. We took the opportunity to go out in smaller boat for sunset the first night which goes down the more narrow canals Great time Fun boatman who pointed out lots and insisted on taking photos of us with the sunset. Great memories and fun photos This boat was more expensive than others but the reviews were so good we went with it thinking the price was for breakfast only. In fact all meals were included which makes it much better value for money than it appears

It’s been said before about air con only being turned on for the night time. This is true however there is a ceiling fan and a breeze off the water whilst the boat is moving. We were also bitten by mosquitoes but that’s only to be expected on the water. If you’re bothered just remember to pack deet etc

“Why Not 2” was our houseboat. It was a really lovely boat and everywhere was spotlessly clean. The beds in both cabins were very comfortable and each night we were moored at a quiet place on the water so we slept very well. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Food was great and there was SO much presented to us. Even in between all 3 meals we were offered tea, snacks and juices. There were opportunities to visit a local fish market, to have massages or to book a small boat to take us into some of the smaller canals but we passed on the offers as none of these were of interest to us.

The air conditioning was switched on routinely from 9pm to 8am and outside of those hours if you needed it you could ask for the generator to be switched on. I think it would be good to make it available to guests as a matter of routine, so that they could access it when they liked. Wi-Fi wasn’t the best, but we were able to access emails and WhatsApp most of the time.

Review of a Houseboat Stay in the Backwaters of South India: We had an amazing night on a large private houseboat with three of us and three staff members. The meals were absolutely delicious, especially the fresh crab and prawns served for dinner. The price was very reasonable for such a unique experience. The trip also included a peaceful excursion on a smaller boat through nearby villages, which added a charming touch to the journey. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the region!

The experience far exceeded our expectations - it was simply incredible. We met our crew on arrival (captain, two chefs and service provider), all of who were lovely. The boat itself was only 5 days old and very luxurious, from the dining room, to the bathrooms and bedrooms. What truly makes this boat special though, and sets it apart from other house boats, is the unique top deck. The top deck had comfy furniture and areas to sit in the sun or in the shade. The design allows the airflow to keep you cool as the boat sailed. We opted for 3 days, 2 nights and were glad we did so. This allowed us to sail down quieter backwaters on the second day and to see local life as we went past (most house boats that do just one night take the same busy route). The food was absolutely delicious and plentiful, much of it Keralan cuisine. You won't regret booking with Why Not, we considered it excellent value and a truly special experience. We can wholeheartedly recommend.

There really wasn't anything we didn't like about the experience other than that there was no wifi on board. We had high expectations but they were surpassed.
