How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Unclean rooms and toilet. Towels were not clean and we had to purchase a bedsheet to spread over the bed.
We have been surprised to note your review with an aim of tarnishing tone ! However, we have served you with great care as we normally do, 99% of guest leaving us with something memorable , like the rarity of spotting multiple wild animals from the guest balcony, including you. It was informed by you that , have already took the animals photos and forwarded to your children abroad and will bring them during their vacation! You have reported to us that, you are going to next station of Megamala with a daily rent of Rs 5,000 per night. Whereas you have enjoyed Genius benefits and stayed with us with a meager amount of Rs.1,440. If you wish to compare the facilities of 5K rental rooms with 1.5k Homestay does not match, and does not fit with the wisdom of a retired Banker ! We have given extra bed spread on your request. Leaving with a very Happy face and surprised to see such disappointing note. Thanks

Very bad experience
It was intimated twice to the guests regarding Check out time is 11am on WhatsApp and was acknowledged. Informing that beyond 12 pm applies a late check out charge. They have witnessed the Spotting of Sambar Deer ! On check out at 7 pm, I asked Guest regarding how was the stay, they said will give us a Excellent Review like any other guest. In fact I had enquiry for couple of room on the same day , had to say No, due to non vacating. I had asked to pay a nominal amount of Rs 500 for 8 hours of over stay, that resulted in such a low score. We do not wish keep a closed eyes of mis behaviour of such aliens. Best regards

Verified reviewIt was close to the reserve and we could see a couple of animals like monkeys and deers. At the end we were very kindly offered some jackfruit and it was tasty 😁
No toilet paper available. We had to pay 1 euro per roll for it. There were not enough towels for everybody also. It's 15 min walking from the centre.

We understand you putting low score due to your request for canceling the 1room on check in saying 2 rooms are large enough for 5 persons stay, and we had to sadly reject as against Policy. Verified reviewWe stayed for only two nights and came for a hiking and rafting tour in Periyar tiger reserve but saw Malabar giant squirrels, samba deer, and lots of different monkeys from our balcony at the homestay … the hosts are super lovely, friendly and helpful, they supported us with car transfer and activities. We felt very welcomed and well taken care of. Their dog max is a real sweetheart as well. Rooms are very tidy and the shared kitchen and dining area provides everything you basically need. Great location for nature lovers, we’d definitely consider coming back again! Above and beyond our expectations!

Verified reviewThe breakfast was home made, fresh using local ingrediants, simple but tasty. The location was perfect, quite away from the busy town on the edge of the wildlife reserve, opportunities to see local wildlife. The host were super friendly and very keen to point out sightings of animals whem they showed up. Balacony overlooked the reserve

Verified reviewThe property is next to the forest. There may be an opportunity to see animals in night, if we are lucky. However, animal movements are unpredictable, and it is purely by luck. I had a high expectation when I paid the premium price for this facility, but later I have realised that seeing an animal in a small piece of land is very rare.
There is no cooking facility although it is a homestay. The house owner forced me to do all his paperwork for about first 30 minutes, although other operators do themselves.

Verified reviewFabulous location right smack bang on the edge of Periyar Tiger Reserve. We saw black monkeys, giant squirrel and wild boar from the balcony. Its a few minutes walk to town and launch points / booking offices for activities inside the park.

Verified reviewLocation is nice and faces the forest. Prices are low n rooms are clean.
A good stay for people without small kids probably as it's managed by a couple with no other helping hands. So, you have to keep going to them for anything you need like water, tea, food, etc. The lights go off by 10 in the common area and so you need to finish everything before that. There's no room service n so if you have get anything after 10, it's difficult.
