Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThere’s no sound proofing! Being your ear plugs max maxxx and maybe get a decent nights rest. Showers not on your floor, honestly I have no idea where the showers were. We showered at forest lagoon beforehand.
Location, amazing. Didn’t try the food, happy hour decent prices, laundry convenient AF when there isn’t 1000 other people waiting to use it. Check in easy, code on the door handle-enough said. Some staff were very helpful. Others glared, weird.

IcelandA bit noisy. We could hear everything in the hallway. A mirror in the room could be a nice addition to the rooms since there was nothing else on the walls
Excellent location and lively bar downstairs. The room was pretty simple and clean.

Czech RepublicWe absolutely loved the location of course! The bar/restaurant downstairs is a really cool spot, and the staff was very friendly. If you just need a clean, affordable place to stay in the downtown area, this is a perfect choice. :) We have nothing bad to say - everything was clean and well-maintained.

PolandWhat allegedly was "kitchen" wasn't really one. It was part of bar, mostly occupied by bicycle and consisted of partially broken electric kettle and single electric stove with single burner. To get to bath, one had to parade through bar.

IcelandWould have been nice to have a desk or something to put our luggage on. Also, missing hand towels and toilet paper at the bathrooms, I sent a message and they did not refill which was unfortunate
Good location but had to pay for parking. Size of the room was nice but no need for it as there is nothing except beds in the room.

IsraelYou have to consider that this is a hostel and not a hotel, therefore dont expect to same level of hospitality. The room is very basic though large enough and amenemnities are minimum. The bathroom and the toilets are outside the room, but the price is considerably low.
The location is excelent. The room is ok. Cleanless and staff were very good

Czech RepublicNo cooking facilities (hey, that is backpacker's place and not hotel), too soft bed, no furtinure (table, chair, wardrobe) in the room...and mainly terrible noice from the bar itself and also from streets when guests stay on streen shouting under your windows after the bar's closure. We picked the hostel to have a bit of comfort after week in campervan and at the end we were looking forward to come back to sleep in the campervan again.
Great location, clean rooms, great hot shower.

ArgentinaThe showers were on the -1 floor and the room was on the 1st floor. Going down two floors and passing by the bar to take a shower doesn't appeal to me. There is no kitchen.
The location is very good, although the parking lots are not that close.

United KingdomThe hostel is very well located in the town centre one block away from akureyri church and the art museum, and it’s a straight line from the airport if you feel like taking in the view on a lovely 45-minute walk overlooking the mountains. It is also conveniently above a pub, that serves as a nice spot for night drinking and is open to the public from 10. Between 8-10 it serves breakfast for guests for a fee not included in the stay. Showers are in the basement, which makes it slightly less ideal in the privacy aspect to have to pass by the pub in order to shower. The facilities are clean and decent enough, but the sauna was under maintenance when I visited so I couldn’t comment on that. Iceland is known for being a country with a higher living cost, hence most people finding it expensive - but there’s expensive and there’s overpriced. Although the hostel offers shared and individual rooms for a very competitive value (being one of the cheapest in Akureyri), the variety of foods at the breakfast bar was quite disappointing for the price and I would much rather recommend having a decent cooked breakfast at a nearby restaurant (there are plenty in the area) for virtually the same price as they charge for what is a small selection of cereals, some chopped veggies and a tiny board of cold cuts and bread. Some of the staff seemed distant in some interactions, but the hostel’s dynamics were designed so you can logistically spend a whole stay without needing to talk to anyone (as they will message you with all the door locks’ combinations prior to your arrival and everything else is well signalled through notice boards), provided you don’t need them for anything out of the ordinary.

CanadaGreat building. And a pretty fun atmosphere. However - a few suggestions: Shower room didn’t have any sinks to finishing cleaning/shaving etc. That would be nice. No interaction with staff whatsoever is needed. While this might work well for after hours checkin, it is nice for general greeting/attendance. As it is the experience there is very impersonal. The bar/restaurant is nice, although the late night dance party should be noted, so that people are aware when booking. It’s loud late. Plus the rooms/halls areas are wide open for anyone to walk into. Found several drunken patrons walking the halls after midnight.

IcelandThe bar area was loud until after midnight which is to be expected on a Friday. Sharing bathrooms with groups of puking teenagers wasn't ideal but easily doable for a night.
The staff were super friendly and helpful. The room, even though almost laughably empty, was clean and beds incredibly comfortable - especially after we were supplied with extra pillows. Restaurant serves tasty food in a lively atmosphere.

United KingdomThere was a massive party on my floor at 3AM during the first night and no one really did anything to stop it. I complained to the host and I didn’t get a simple apology for the disruption. One of the lamps didn’t work and based on the pics I assume the mirror was also missing from the wall.
The place is right in the town centre. The staff was very helpful and friendly and the check in. The room was spacious. I would put some little chest of drawers or a wardrobe in the room as there was nowhere to unpack my clothes. There was always hot water when had a shower. Had a ceiling window and managed to see the northern lights from my room. Be prepared for noise coming in from the street as it is in the town centre and also from the ground floor bar/restaurant.

United StatesNo elevators. Very difficult stairs (although they look lovely) to drag luggage up (I was on 4th floor). Laundry is app based and one of the dryers didn’t dry (needed a new filter) & I got charged double (almost $42 USD for one load! It was $20.73 to wash & dry total). I was able to get a refund very easily (through AppWallet). The staff offered me a 20% on breakfast the next day but I didn’t have time as I was catching a bus to Husavik. Staff very helpful re storing luggage & helping me with walking directions to correct bus stop.
Large room (double deluxe), super comfy beds, & beautiful wooden floors. The staff try to remedy issues quickly. I was able to leave luggage between visits.
